At the heart of the Surf Shack is an open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area — perfect for shared meals, games, or just watching the sea roll in. Slide open the doors to a large outdoor patio with a built-in braai and uninterrupted views of the waves. It’s the ideal spot for sundowners, storytelling, and stargazing.
There’s also a cozy indoor fireplace for cooler evenings and a garage to safely store your surfboards and beach gear.
The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable:
* Primary Bedroom: Wake to sweeping ocean views from your queen-sized bed.
* Second Bedroom: A king-sized bed and built in cupboards
* Third Bedroom: Designed with little ones in mind, this playful room has two single beds and a bunk bed – plenty of space for giggles and sleepovers.
* Fourth Bedroom: Private and en-suite, this room is perfect for teens or extra guests wanting their own space.
The home includes two en-suite bathrooms, a full shared bathroom (shower and bath), and a separate guest toilet, making it easy for everyone to settle in comfortably.
Whether you’re here to surf, recharge, or soak in salty sunsets with your family, our Kommetjie Surf Shack is your laid-back, lived-in coastal hideaway — a place where shoes are optional and the ocean is always calling.
Please Note: This home sits just meters from the shoreline, and with this unbeatable location comes a few natural quirks. Sandhoppers and kelp flies are part of the coastal ecosystem. While we do spray barriers to minimize them, some may find their way indoors — especially at night or in the late afternoon. Keeping doors and windows closed helps. These tiny creatures are harmless, if a bit cheeky, and part of what makes Kommetjie so wild and wonderful.
Room Access:
To keep things cozy and cost-effective, we’ll only open the number of bedrooms needed based on your group size. If you're booking for two, you'll have access to one main bedroom; additional rooms will be unlocked as your group size increases (up to 10 guests in total).
Pet Note: The property is pet-friendly for dogs with good recall, but please note that the fence does not close off the entire perimeter towards the sea and there is a public walkway on the rocks.

🌿 Public Pathways & Passersby
Our home sits right on the rocks, which is part of what makes it so special. That also means the area in front of the house is public land, and you may see the odd passerby enjoying the coastline — especially surfers using the path through the trees on the left of the house. It’s all part of the Kommetjie charm!
🐾 Bringing Pets?
We love that you’re bringing your furry companions! Just a few things to note:
- The back garden is not fully enclosed, so please make sure your pets have great recall.
- Maximum 2 small to medium dogs.
- Bring their own beds and a towel for drying off — our bath towels are for humans only.
- No wet pets inside, and please keep them off the furniture.
- Pets should be on a lead when heading out and not left alone at the property, even for a short time.
🏖️ What to Pack
Don’t forget to bring your own beach towels – you’ll definitely want them for those spontaneous beach days!
🔒 Staying Safe
South Africa, like many parts of the world, does have the occasional petty theft. We’d hate for anything to go wrong during your stay, so a few quick reminders:
- Please don’t leave valuables in your car or outside unattended.
- Keep doors closed and locked when you're out.
- Always activate the alarm when you leave — it’s super easy and helps keep you and your belongings safe.
- Insurance won’t cover theft if the alarm wasn’t set, so this one's really important.
🦗 About Those Little Beach Visitors...
Sandhoppers: In late winter and spring, these tiny, harmless creatures sometimes make an appearance — especially at night. They’re part of the beach's natural clean-up crew! We recommend turning off outside lights at bedtime, and if they become a bit too enthusiastic, let us know. We’ll pop by and do our magical vinegar spray routine (they hate it — and it works!).
Kelp Flies: When it’s warm and the tide is high, these guys show up too. Best tip? Keep windows and doors closed when you can. We're working on extra solutions, but in the meantime, a little prevention goes a long way.
