Charming Riverside Boathouse on Dittisham Mill Creek
Escape to a serene riverside haven with this charming one-bedroom Boathouse, nestled in picturesque Dittisham on the banks of Mill Creek, just off the River Dart. Perfectly designed for couples or solo travellers, this peaceful, sustainable boutique retreat offers comfort, tranquility and breathtaking waterside views. The main house, including the boathouse, is also available to book between June–August.
The compact yet well-equipped kitchen allows you to prepare everything from a simple breakfast to a gourmet dinner. When the weather is fine, step outside to your private balcony and enjoy al fresco dining with the soothing sounds of the river.
Ascend the 'ships steps' up into the snug mezzanine double bed and enjoy a restful nights sleep.
Outside
The boathouse's private balcony offers an ideal spot to relax, with views that stretch across the river and surrounding countryside. Watch the boats drift by, birds swoop overhead, or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere as you sip a glass of wine at sunset. You also have access to the patio area behind the boathouse along with a rustic BBQ.
The Boathouse is situated at the bottom of the garden of the owners residence. You are able to park one car at the property and have your own access with a pathway leading down to the Boathouse. A torch is suggested during the evening to aid access.
The main garden is for use by the main house in which is lived in most of the time. If the owners are present they will try not to intrude but you may see them coming and going, messing about on the creek or cutting the grass.
The Boathouse has a ship's staircase which is more than a ship's ladder and less than a standard staircase with the access closed off by shutting a hatch once you are in the bedroom area. Alternatively there is a bed settee in the lounge that can be used instead.
Guests, with the owners permission, are also permitted to use the owners swimming pool and potentially the use of the lower garden adjacent to the boathouse. Please note that during the autumn and winter months the pool will unlikely be open. Please ensure, prior to booking, that you request if the pool can be made available for your stay.
For water enthusiasts, Water Edge House provides access to the water via a boat store located underneath the boathouse. Guests can borrow a Canadian canoe (buoyancy aids provided, canoe use is at your own risk).
Bring your own boat which you can launch either down Shute Lane some 20metres west from the beach slipway down by the Ham some 400m away.
You can store your SUP boards in the boat dock below the boathouse

We wanted a few days somewhere pretty and peaceful and this was perfect. Watching the river come in and out, the wildlife and just the quietest place ever. Loved the cute pheasant who came to see us every day too 😂 Would love to return to make more use of the balcony but it was March and a bit chilly still - but it meant we could use the log burner instead and be very cosy watching it all behind glass! Such friendly hosts and a huge thankyou to them for letting us share their wonderful space.
