A secluded getaway perfect for large families and pets. The location and surroundings were beautiful and the garden was a perfect size for the dogs. Though, a lack of outside lighting made sitting outside and getting around was difficult in the dark, especially to let the dogs out. A house sign at the driveway entrance would also be beneficial. Unfortunately, basic amenities and cleanliness appeared to be overlooked including; large thick cobwebs in every room, sink in utility room leaking, dirty air fryer, broken shelf attached to the hot tub, and hand wash not refilled in kitchen and one of the bathrooms. The hot tub was lovely and warm on the one night we used it. It felt like a safe space for the dogs and the house allowed us to spend quality time together as a family, which was the main purpose of the stay.

The location was beautiful! We had a little difficulty finding it, I think that was more of an a Google Maps issue. The country roads are tight but thankfully you don’t encounter too many other cars. We had everything we needed and got to explore different parts of dartmoor every day. A very lovely trips

We all absolutely loved our stay here. The house was stunning with beautiful gardens and lots to do. The hosts were communicative and helpful with any queries - we especially appreciated the local guide they shared with us before our stay. Overall I would recommend to anyone considering staying here!

We recently stayed at a beautifully decorated house in a secluded, peaceful location, ideal for disconnecting from the world and enjoying quality family time. The house had a cozy charm, with stylish décor and a welcoming atmosphere, but it fell a little short of a luxury experience. The location, while tranquil, was difficult to find due to narrow, winding roads, so arriving during daylight is recommended. The kitchen, though well-equipped, however had both sinks broken—one leaked, causing some flooding, though we managed to fix one ourselves. Additionally, the bathroom lacked basic items like soap, and the showers had drainage issues that led to minor flooding. Despite these inconveniences, the garden was a highlight, providing a great space for the kids to play, while the playroom kept the adults entertained. The living room and kitchen were spacious and comfortable, perfect for family meals and conversations. Overall, a pleasant stay, though with a few areas for improvement.

Fantastic views from the house which overlooks a beautiful valley. Nice welcome pack including chocolates and Prosecco. The rooms have a cosy feeling - and the beds are very comfortable. Some maintenance needed. The folding doors (access to patio) were jammed- and a key to an alternative door was not made available. One of the bedrooms has a clear glass door. It’s a 35 min enjoyable walk via a public path down to Lustleigh. Note that access to the property is via a narrow single track road (look out for the potholes!). Unfortunately, our car was damaged as we tried to let an oncoming vehicle pass. Overall, we had a great time. Glorious views- very peaceful…

Lovely property with beautiful countryside around. Enjoyed long walks in surrounding countryside to pubs in Lustleigh and Water. Beds very comfortable. We had been told there were showers in all bathrooms but only 2 have proper showers. One has a hand held shower and one has no shower. Made it a bit inconvenient with 8 adults staying.

This is an absolutely beautiful house in a very pretty location. It has a huge enclosed field in front so perfect for dogs. It has also a lovely kitchen and social area with really well thought out spaces. But the location is remote and difficult to find - especially as the signage is overgrown. All guests got lost arriving! It’s also very much self accommodation so don’t expect basics eg shampoo, toilet roll. Come prepared. We had an issue with heating which was repaired - the management company were very responsive.

Beautifully renovated house with a wonderful peaceful location. Views across the valley to the Tors in the distance. Kitchen and larder are excellently equipped (although no microwave - good to be aware of). Perfect for family get togethers.

The house is nicely oriented over a south facing garden and field. It’s curved so that it lets the sun in throughout the day. The garden is well cared for. All the rooms are generously sized, decorated and arranged. All the bedrooms are of good standard, each with a well-appointed bathroom attached. There is plenty of storage throughout. The bedding was very clean and comfortable. Plenty of thought has been given to decor, and to fitting out the house with furniture and supplies - the kitchen drawers in particular were well stocked with a good range of pots, pans and utensils. One thing was missing: there was none of that heavily worn look that can come over a holiday let which experiences too much use.

The House and location were lovely but unfortunately our stay was impacted by drainage issues from the start. Initially a blocked shower (which was fixed) followed by a bad smell and finally raw sewage overflowing from the drains and running past the front door and bedrooms making the property and garden extremely unpleasant to be in. Whilst we appreciate that this was not the fault of Fresh Escapes we were only offered £78.41 compensation (which is less than 3% of the cost of the property) which was frankly insulting and unreasonable. The manner in which our issue and compensation was handled by fresh escapes unfortunately leaves a bitter taste and we would not recommend others risk the same happening to them in the event that something goes wrong during their stay.

Great house and location Could do with a clear house name at roadside to help finding the house, and instructions on lights etc (never did find how to turn on garden lighting) drain in downstairs shower needs unblocking as room floods Let that not distract from a stunning house in a stunning location

We had an amazing stay here, the house was incredible, loads of space and great amenities/appliances, everything you'd need in a self catering place. We brought 2 dogs and it was great for them, however I would say a light for the garden would be helpful when letting the dogs out at night, hard to keep an eye on them, maybe we couldn't find the right switch but I only found small ground lights that didn't emit much light. We also had the bedroom downstairs by the kitchen and the door is glass so if youre getting changed you need to use the bathroom to do so so you don't give people in the kitchen an eyeful! These were very minor issues and this great place for a getaway with friends and family. Definitely recommend and would love to return to see more of the beautiful surroundings !

Higher Mapstone is a stunning property within a gorgeous landscape. Also, wonderfully furnished/decorated, homely, and with modern amenities. Fantastic & peaceful views to wake up to, as described. We brought 2 families together for our newborn's first Christmas and couldn't have done so in a better home. Comfortably slept 8 adults, 2 Dogs, and one Newborn. Thank you also to Fresh Escapes who were easy to reach, responsive, and supportive.

A very pleasant and relaxing stay at the higher mapstone retreat. The residence is just as beautiful as the photos if not better. Property was clean and everything essential was provided. They even bought and left a new baby high chair knowing we had my one year old coming to stay. Lots of place in the 4 acre land for the kids to run around and play. A really pleasant and wonderful break for both my elderly parents and young kids. Would love to visit again.
