True to its name, The Round House is a unique and grand holiday home, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, offering distinctive features, beautiful furnishings and wonderful views over the town and out towards the Bristol Channel. Ideal for an enjoyable break with family or friends.
The space
The Round House dates back to 1910, when a local builder was challenged to construct a circular property. Sadly, he died before completion, but his son took over, and their legacy is what stands as The Round House today.The unique building is an 'Italianate' style circular property that also comes with a separate, detached quirky cottage. Located right next to the Cairn Nature Reserve - a historic woodland area - there are dozens of walking trails on the doorstep - if you can drag yourself away, that is. It's also within a healthy walking distance of the beach, The South West Coast Path and Ilfracombe town centre.
Constructed from stone and Marland brick, the five-bedroom property is approached by a sweeping drive, surrounded by colourful, landscaped gardens, which have been a frequent winner of ‘Ilfracombe in Bloom’.
Inside, the house is dripping with architectural features, including twin turrets which flank the main entrance, ornate plaster ceilings, original Arts and Crafts fireplaces and gothic-style arched doors and wood-panelled walls.
The front door opens into a turreted entrance with an ornate gilded patterned plastered ceiling and herringbone parquet flooring leading towards the drawing room. This features a bowed picture window with a window seat below, so you can gaze out at the hypnotic sea views.
The dining room, too, boasts a large bow window along with an open fireplace and enough marble to rival the Vatican. The ground floor also contains a breakfast room, kitchen, laundry room, and cloakroom.
Upstairs, the five bedrooms command enviable views. However, the real jewel in the crown is the spectacular rotunda room, featuring a circular wall of double-glazed windows, four painted wooden pillar supports and a door opening onto a roof terrace and sun deck. Perfect for admiring the panoramic views across the Bristol Channel and out towards Wales in the distance.

We thoroughly loved this day at The roundhouse and spent the first half an hour running around like excited children finding all the nooks and crannies. There was an issue with the heating but it was quickly resolved with help from the owner. The views are stunning the rooms are large and airy. The top viewing platform was a real jewel. Just a shame there were severe winds because opening the door it nearly took it out of my hands! Lots of wide staircases but accessible to bathrooms. The place was clean the fireplace was gorgeous and the views were stunning. Not for the faint hearted walking back from town as it is at the top of a hill. Lovely walks were accessible right behind the property into the woods. I would highly recommend a stay here. The only floor is that I could have done with an inventory for the kitchen because it was fully equipped and then some which would have saved me carting a ton of kitchen equipment for Christmas Day. Super helpful owners. Would recommend.

Great stay! Booked a weekend away with a group of friends - 10 adults, dogs and babies. Ample space for everyone both inside and outside - big garden is a huge plus. House was as pictured and kept very clean and tidy. Amenities were sufficient although would have been nice to have a few more things to facilitate group entertainment (board games, serving ware etc) - a minor nice to have as the place was overall fantastic. The company was very proactive in their communication and provided a comprehensive guidebook with all necessary info, shared well in advance. Definitely recommend. Great location too - local Lime Kiln Cafe was lovely. Note having a car to get about the town and visit neighbouring beaches is definitely useful as the local beaches around the town centre have very limited space so best to travel slightly further out to Puttsborough or Croyde.

No music to be played outside. 3. Smoking, Pets & Candles No smoking or vaping inside the property. A designated smoking area is available [if applicable]. For properties that accept pets, please clean up after them and keep them off furniture. No open flames, including candles or incense. 4. Cleanliness & Waste Disposal Please keep the property tidy and leave it as you found it. Dispose of waste in the designated bins. Recycling instructions can be found [location]. Report any spills or damages immediately to help us address them quickly. 5. Kitchen Use Feel free to use the kitchen, but please clean up after yourself. Ensure all appliances are turned off after use. Do not leave food out to avoid attracting pests. Clean all dishes and pots before putting in dishwasher 6. Damage & Breakages Accidents happen! Please inform us of any damages or breakages so we can address them. Guests may be responsible for the cost of significant damages beyond normal wear and tear. 7. Security Always lock doors and windows when leaving the property. Do not share entry codes or keys with anyone outside your group. 8. Amenities & Utilities Use water and electricity responsibly. Do not tamper with heating, air conditioning, or electrical equipment.
