The space
Thornwell Cottage is a beautiful 200-year old cottage located in the heart of Dittisham. This grade II listed property benefits from extensive gardens and fantastic views over the River Dart. This cottage has been renovated to make a lovely place to stay for couples and small families alike. The ground floor is complete with flagstone floors and exposed beams filling each room with character and charm whist benefiting from modern comforts. A year-round cottage the extensive gardens are the perfect spot to lose yourself in painting or a good book in the sun, The log burner in the lounge increases the cosiness of the cottage after a nippy winters day exploring the Dart Valley Trail. Located in a quiet part of the village, Thornwell Cottage is within walking distance of the quayside and the village pubs. One small/medium well-behaved dog welcome upon arrangement.

Accommodation:

Thornwell Cottage is accessed via the porch at the front of the property, into the ground floor of the cottage with exposed beams and flagstone floor throughout. To the right is the sitting room and to the left the kitchen diner, separating the two are the stairs up to the two bedrooms.

The cosy sitting room is brimming with character and furnished with comfortable sofas, wood burner and dual aspect windows as well as flat-screen digital TV with DVD.

To the left is the kitchen with dining area. A cute cottage kitchen with contemporary aspects. The cream bespoke kitchen units with black granite work surfaces are centred around the alcove with exposed wooden mantle where a range would have once stood, now replaced with a modern electric hob and oven. The kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. The dining area has been cleverly designed incorporating the space under the stairs, with built in corner bench, table and chairs that will comfortably seat four.

A few steps up from the kitchen towards the back door guests will find the modern family bathroom with underfloor heating, bath with overhead power shower, toilet, wash basin and LED lit mirror. Washing machine.

Upstairs you will find two character bedrooms. The first is the master bedroom at the front of the house with a 5' double bed with brass frame, dressing table, chest of drawers and built in wardrobe. Dual aspect windows give views towards the river.
The second bedroom has a zip & link double bed (5') that can be converted on request to a twin room with two 2’6″ singles.

Electric heating and woodburner, logs provided for winter bookings.

Outside:

Thornwell Cottage has a beautiful extensive private garden with views to the River Dart, the ideal spot for reading or painting. A private dining area with outdoor furniture flanks the house – perfect for Al fresco dining in the summer.
Though Thornwell Cottage welcomes dogs the garden is by no means secure with various access points to the road and neighbours garden. The Ham or The Quay at low tide are great spots for exercising dogs off the lead as well as the Dart Valley Trail which can be accessed a short walk away.

Parking:

The car park is 50m level walk from the front door. Charges apply.

Nearby:

The village pub The Red Lion is a 2-minute walk up the road. The Red Lion also hosts the village shop and post office. A 5-minute walk in the opposite direction will take you down to The Quay where you will find the Ferry Boat Inn and The Anchorstone Cafe as well as ferries to Greenway and Dartmouth.

Thornwell Cottage is a beautiful old cottage that is full of character but with modern amenities. The bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable and the wood burner in the lounge made the downstairs very cosy. Due to the weather we were unable to use the garden but we’d definitely return again.

Thornwell Cottage is a lovely quiet little place with a beautiful garden in a superb setting. The interior design is very nicely done and everything works well. Great shower. It's less than 10 minutes walk to the river side and access to ferries, which is great. The local pub, The Red Lion is a 2 minute walk away. It's has a very good provisions shop and post office. It should be noted that the garden is not really dog safe because it opens onto the neighbouring garden. It's also very much on a steep gradient so tricky for those not so nibble on their feet. And if you're over 6ft you may find the ceilings quite low.

A really nice cottage in a picturesque village close to the river and to Dartmouth. The property has a fantastic garden which slopes upwards out of the village. Parking is nearby in a public car park which is fine. Overall nice house, lovely holiday, cottage could do with a deeper clean, especially carpets.

Lovely cottage in a picturesque village location away from it all. Some really great places to eat in the vacinity if you’re prepared to tackle the single track roads, which are a bit of a handful, especially after Storm Eunice! Great places to visit as well, Dartmouth is lovely as is Salcombe and we also liked Brixham and Berry Head. Try to visit Greenway, across the water from Dittisham, Agatha Christie’s beautiful holiday home and nearby Coleton Fishacre, home of the D’Oyle Carte’s founders of the world famous Opera company. Dartmoor and Dartington Estate are also well worth a visit…stunning part of the UK!
