Secret Garden City Oasis
Entire home in Balmain, Australia
The space
What We LoveIn the thriving heart of Balmain, this four-bedroom, three-bathroom home effortlessly blends modern elegance with classic comfort. Perfectly suited for families, it features a private and fully enclosed garden, offering a safe and serene space for young children to play. With stylish design throughout, the home opens up to leafy gardens, creating a peaceful retreat while maintaining the best of indoor-outdoor living for a sophisticated stay.
A bright, modern open-plan entertaining room welcomes you to enjoy in boundless style. Black-framed windows draped in sheer, floor-to-ceiling curtains connect the space to your garden, flooding the room with warm natural light that spills over an inviting arrangement of armchairs and sofas around a circular coffee table. A marble breakfast bar separates the room with design and function, enclosing a premium kitchen—an inspiring space to curate the perfect holiday spread. Flowing seamlessly to the lush outdoor garden and alfresco dining area, large sliding doors invite the outdoors in, with views of vibrant landscaping and an inviting patio equipped with a gas BBQ for the ultimate summer evenings. For cooler nights, a formal indoor dining table is tucked into a romantic corner, under tasteful artwork, perfect for a grand dinner. Afterwards, retire to the second lounge, where a large grey sofa and TV bask in the light of a dramatic chandelier.
The three bedrooms are sanctuaries of comfort and tranquillity, with an additional separate studio with an en-suite shower making this the ideal choice for a group of friends. The studio has a fold-out double bed and ensuite shower room—perfect for larger groups or as a private workspace. The main bedroom houses a king-sized bed, while the two additional double bedrooms offer serene retreats with thoughtful artwork adorning the restful walls. You’ll also have access to two full bathrooms, providing plenty of space for your group to prepare for an enviable day.
Balmain’s unique mix of heritage charm and modern amenities, along with close proximity to the CBD, offers an enviable lifestyle with plenty to amuse. Filled with leafy foreshore reserves, colourful buildings, and spectacular harbour views, a scenic walk is a wonderful way to take it all in—stopping at one of many creative cafés, restaurants, and boutiques along the way, of course! We recommend exploring the boutiques along Darling Street and rummaging for bargains at the weekend Rozelle Collectors Flea Market, where fashion, fresh produce, and bric-a-brac are side by side. Heading into the city? The ferry takes you there in style, right under the iconic Harbour Bridge, adding a unique touch to an already enticing stay in this creative ‘burb.

We really enjoyed our 10 night stay here. The place was as beautiful as shown in the pictures and we really appreciated the complementary food and local snacks from the hosts. The hosts were extremely responsive to a variety of questions I had as a first time visitor to Sydney and were extremely professional in all our interactions. The only small downside was the street parking which was on a very narrow street and required parking onto the curb which we had no experienced before, but once we got used to it, it was just a minor annoyance that we accepted as part of the package. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. It was quiet and comfortable, with a variety of restaurants and delicious bakeries just a few minutes walk away. Highly recommended.

The house is really beautiful and in a great location in Balmain. There’s a bus stop just out the front which makes it easy to get to the ferry or into the CBD. We stayed for 5 weeks so we noticed a few things that could be improved - the washer and dryer in particular are incredibly small and slow. Having a whole family staying here meant we needed to run the thing all day. The dishwasher is also missing some racks so you can’t fit much in there. The kitchen in general could have been a bit cleaner. Little bits of food and water stains. Especially around the sink and stovetop. The bbq was too rusted to use. Other than that, it’s a great place to stay. We had kids with us and having them in the separate “wing” of the house made things tricky (they couldn’t walk the entire length of the house if they woke up). Would be fine (and probably preferred) if they were older. You will probably want to have a car if you want to get out more though. Especially with kids.
