Our stay with Laurette was very pleasant. The listing is as described. The one bedroom is integrated into the main room and separated only by two ‘walls’ that do not really block out sound or light. That wasn’t quite so clear to us from the description. Otherwise, we felt very comfortable and had a pleasant stay. The tips on day trips and food were great.

The owner greeted us safely, was kind and responsive! The house is wonderful, especially the living room with its casement windows. There's also a pool and jacuzzi on the property, which was very welcome after long flights and walks. Thank you so much for your hospitality, for helping with laundry, for the treats, and for your shopping recommendations. The only downside we noticed was the noise on the roof in the mornings, but that's part of living in a picturesque area, with lots of birds. We rented car, so the hills wasn’t problem, or we use taxi.

The area is safe and serves as a good starting point wherever you want to venture. There is decent playground 2min away by car.

Unusual, but very nice, comfortable space. Huge ceilings, lovely big bathroom and large balcony with mountain view were all a plus. Laurette and Ryan were very welcoming. She went out of her way to accommodate our late check out and flight. The welcome gift was a lovely teachers. Would definitely stay there again.

This was really an amazing stay where we were made to feel welcome even before arrival! Laurette and Ryan made us feel right at home with the best testimony being how well our one year-old slept , ate and felt at ease in the surroundings. The location was great. A car is definitely recommended but it’s the perfect base to visit the bay and the centre while enjoying some peace and quiet. The place is fully equipped and food options supermarkets and pharmacies are less than 10 minutes away. We especially appreciated being able to use all the baby equipment which allowed us to pack lighter. We definitely recommend the place and left saying we will be back next year!

The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going above and beyond to make us feel at home. They gave us excellent recommendations for activities and restaurants, and their service throughout our stay was truly fantastic. The place was extremely child-friendly, which made it perfect for traveling with our kids aged 1, 4, and 5. Everything felt safe, comfortable, and well thought out for families. The balcony was bigger than we expected and offered a really beautiful view—such a lovely bonus. This was hands down the best Airbnb we’ve ever stayed in. We would happily give it six stars if we could and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay! The location is central if you’re wanting to explore the beaches on the peninsula and sitting on the porch bird watching was a huge plus for us. A quiet, safe neighbourhood. The kitchen is well equipped with all the bits and pieces for cooking meals at home. Laurette, Ryan and their kids made us feel so welcome, even lent our daughter some picture books when she wasn’t feeling very well.

I started to type an EXHAUSTIVE review talking about how wonderful Laurette and Ryan were as hosts, but there was a character limit… The environment at The Gem brought such peace from the moment we arrived. Any request/concern received a PROMPT response and was immediately addressed. When we first arrived, Ryan gave us some recommendations of places and things for our little ones. He saw we went on a walk and picked some lavender and told us we free to take some from their back yard and have at the lemon tree. Laurette went out of her way and ordered some all natural, plant-based cleaners just for the weekly cleaning service when she found out we didn’t like harsh chemicals. During the last part of our 1.5 month stay, I asked if there was a computer chair I could use, and she ordered one just so I could use it for a few days! They were both very kind and did whatever they could to make us feel at home. We don’t have any negatives. Needless to say, we highly recommend a stay at The Gem!

It was a real pleasure to stay at Laurette’s place. We had all we need and felt like home. Thanks to the guide that we received we found the right things to do when we were figuring out what to do or what to eat. Laurette is a really nice and helpful person, and responds really quick on the phone. Our kids enjoyed the pool and liked the big bath in the bathroom. We strongly recommend for families like ours who have 3 little kids.

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed. The clear and beautifully designed booklet with instructions, tips about the stay and the area exudes professionalism. Laurette and her husband are hands down the best hosts we have ever met. They take your wishes into account and are happy to think along with you. Their valuable tips have made our stay and the area even more pleasant. Laurette's accommodation, The Gem, has a lot of character. It is beautiful, spacious and provided with everything you need and more. The bathroom offers luxury, with a lovely shower and a fantastic spacious bath. The private and public area are excellently separated from each other, which guarantees a lot of peace and privacy. The pool, hot tub and braai were absolute highlights. We would have liked to stay here much longer and will definitely be back. This stay is highly recommended!

We absolutely LOVED the place , the hot tub was a winner !!! The weather was a bit cold so we would jump in the hot tub , get out take a hot shower and lounge and braai with the fireplace on inside it was so cosy and comfortable. Ryan and Laurette are so friendly !! So are their Kids and fur babies (if you like cats) . The beds were super comfy !!!! And the blankets were absolutely heaven !!! The bath was a dream for my daughter with the hand shower just to have a quick rinse. It literally had everything we needed we just took an extra braai grid with , other than that we didn’t need anything else Laurette and Ryan thought about the finest detail !! Our small welcome gifts were so thoughtful even a little gift for my 2 year old . Wish to go back ASAP to make use of the pool area .

We had a wonderful, unique stay with Laurette and her family from the first second. We felt very welcome and were able to explore the area in a very special way with the many great personal recommendations. Our daughter felt very comfortable. The pool, hot tub, bathtub, and huge balcony with Braai Area were perfect to relax and come down after the many excursions. In addition, we enjoyed the nice conversations with Laurette& Ryan, who have always asked how we are doing and if we needed anything. Many small things like a wonderful welcome package for us and for the children with local specialties and the opportunity to do laundry etc have rounded everything off. The view from the balcony was also very nice. The dogs in the neighborhood and the monkeys on the roof were a bit noisy. But only bother if you have noise-sensitive children;).

We had the privilege of spending three incredible weeks at the Welcome Gen Mountain Gem, and we absolutely loved it! Laurette and Ryan greeted us warmly and made us feel at home immediately. The apartment itself is breathtaking, featuring an industrial design that we adored. The expansive balcony offers stunning views of the mountains, and we cherished the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, as well as the hospitality of our hosts. Although the Gem is located in a secure and secluded neighborhood, it's conveniently situated just five minutes from Simon's Town or Muizenberg and a mere two minutes from the beach. True to its name, it is indeed a gem, we highly recommend it!

This was a little Gem, we live in Cape Town but wanted to get away for a date night. The hosts went out of their way for us. Everything we needed was inside. including a personal touch of cheese platter and bottle of wine. We ran out of Mayo and our hosts gave us theirs, so we did not need to leave out little bubble. We will be back!!!

Ah these guys were 'the hosts with the most' - nothing was too much trouble. They are kind, super responsive, attentive and wam hearted hosts. And the apartment is absolutely stunning. Perfectly appointed and with wonderful views - and in a really safe and family-friendly enclave. As a surfer's holiday destination - the location is awesome. Close to both Muizenberg and Kommetjie - so there was an abundance of surf to choose from. A definite 'I a coming back!' Thank you for being such wonderfully gracious hosts :)

Laurette and Ryan were great hosts!The accomodations were absoluetly beautiful, the pictures did not do it justice. The area is affected by loadshedding however rehargeable lights were provided, additionally the wifi has a back up power which allowed for uninterupted access during the scheduled outages. The fireplace also helped to provide light during the outages, Ryan demonstrated how to and lit the fireplace. Clean cookware, oil, seasonings, tea and coffee were also povided. There was more than enough room and space to unpack and feel comfortable. The location was close enough the town center, shops, restaurants and the beach (not a walkable town to, I'd suggest renting a small car). There's a safe dedicated parking spot on the property. Overall the airbnb was comfortable, private and the neighbourhood felt really safe. I would stay here again!

This place was just amazing. From the time we booked, the hosts were very accommodating and helpful. The Gem is situated in a very nice area with lovely views, especially at night. The space itself was clean and well equipped. We loved the large private balcony,where we could enjoy the scenery in front of the fire. The bonus of this place was that there is a hot tub and a pool , with the most beautiful garden( if you love greenery). I would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone seeking a tranquil getaway.

The Gem is the perfect unit for a family of 4-5. The separate bedroom for the kids was fantastic. The whole unit is spacious and well-equipped. The gas stove, braai, and battery-powered torches were so helpful during load-shedding. The beds were comfortable. Access to the jacuzzi and swimming pool was a great addition to our stay. It's also wonderful having your own balcony to enjoy the view and fresh air. Laurette and Ryan were fantastic hosts. They were always available to assist with any questions and requests. I would definitely recommend the Gem to anyone looking to spend time in Glen Cairn.

This was honestly the best Air BnB we have ever stayed in! Ryan and Laurette are such lovely hosts and really went above and beyond to make our trip to South Africa perfect. Their guidance for local hikes and restaurants was spot on and we ended up in some brilliant places thanks to their recommendations. During our stay we felt so at home and relaxed in the property. The pool and hot tub were lovely and we cooked up some food using the Braai on the balcony. The location is perfect - surrounded by beautiful mountains and convenient for lots of different things. We visited silvermine and did an incredible hike, swam with penguins at boulders bay, climbed table mountain and went out for some incredible meals in the evening. Fantastic wifi, also during loadshedding - if you are a digital nomad you want to stay here. The pictures don't do the apartment justice. Very spacey and airy, lovely view of the mountain side. Fantastic patio. Bathroom is simply amazing. Well-equipped kitchen. For once an airbnb that is not overly decorated. More than enough room for 3-5 adults. Plenty of parking. Lovely braai area. Ryan was very accommodating as he allowed us to check in earlier and check out later so that we could finish up working. Also worth to check out the other spaces they rent out in the house. The other place is perfect for a couple as they will have a lot of privacy and a private splash pool. I would stay over and over again.

Personnes incroyables, nous avons séjourné quelques jours chez Laurette et son compagnon. Nous sommes arrivés à une heure assez tardive, nous avons été reçus par le compagnon de Laurette très sympathique qui a pris le temps de nous faire visiter le logement ainsi que le fonctionnement des appareils. Nous avons même eu le droit à un petit cadeau de leur part de là régions, une attention qui fait la différence. Concernant le logement il est comme sur les photos. Vous avez une super vu depuis le salon et la chambre principale. Avec un réveil face a la montage. Nous avons pu profiter du jacuzzi même dans la soirée avec une eau bien chaude tout en buvant un verre de vin, un vrai moment de détente. Niveau propreté rien à dire. Le linge, la salle de bain, cuisine bien propre. Je tiens vraiment à remercier nos hôtes de cette Acceuil chaleureux. Je vous conseil sans hésiter de séjourner dans ce logement avec une super décoration.

Amazing stay! Well worth it. Beautiful space, close to so many popular beaches and tidal pools, comfy and a great escape. The only downfall is that it is in a neighbourhood. Lots of dog barking and loud cars riding up and down. Other than that it’s perfect. Pool, jacuzzi, private balcony and braai space and the open plan makes it seem even bigger than what it is. Perfect hosts and a great stay!

The Gem really describes it all for you. It has the veranda with mountain views all around. Very romantic jacuzzi and a pool where cocktails were being served by the amazing host. The bathroom reminds me of showering deep in the mountains with a small breeze coming from the window. It was definitely one of the best stays in Western Cape yet.

Myself and my family had a really great time, the place really looks amazing the pictures do not do justice to the space provided and the view. Laurette and Ryan were great hosts and had to super friendly little hosts as well. They were very accommodating they got new braai grids as we are muslim and even had an arrangement of colorful cupcakes (which my daughters wastes no time eating) and a happy birthday baloon for my wife. As her birthday was on the Sunday they allowed us to invite some family as well which was the icing on the cake. I would highly recommend friends and family to opt for the mountain gem really grateful and thankful

We were removed enough from the busyness of the major roads yet close enough that everywhere we wanted to go was minutes away. Whether we were sipping coffee across from a mountainside on our personal balcony, resting in a private hot tub or enjoying lemon water from our own personal lemon tree, this stay was so enjoyable and safe. Our hosts helped in every way possible to make sure we settled in quickly and eliminated all hurdles they could to ensure an awesome stay. Also, the apartment setup is creative and gorgeous. A great place to rest, get inspired or to escape into natural beauty. When we return to Cape Town we know exactly where we’re staying, and if this place is available you should stop scrolling and immediately book this spot!

Ryan and Laurette were absolutely amazing hosts. They were more than accommodating and the place was just what we needed. It was by far the most romantic few days my wife and I have ever experienced and I would recommend this spot to any couple or family wanting a break from the city. Plenty of firewood and wine! Great attention to detail. The fireplace and sunny balcony made it great for winter but I think it would be perfect for a summer stay!!! I cannot recommend this place enough. I am tempted to write a bad review but only because I would like to keep this gorgeous spot all to myself! This is such a wonderful stay for a couple or small family. We stayed for 4 days - half of the time the weather was gloomy and cold, and the other half was sunny and bright. It is a testament to the care and detail that Laurette and Ryan have put into this space that we were able to have an amazing time regardless of the temperature... on the chilly days we snuggled up in front of the fire, watched movies, enjoyed the hot tub... and on the sunny days we braaied, listened to music, walked down to the beach and enjoyed the amazing view from our private balcony. There is also a great swimming pool if you go down in the summer. Laurette, Ryan and their whole little family are so welcoming and were so quick to make our stay as pleasant as possible. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a boutique hotel experience with the care, attention and personal details of an Airbnb.

this is really a little gem! we had a such a relaxing weekend..the Jacuzzi was theeee best and the kids enjoyed the pool so much!! it's close to shops and we even did some Putt Putt which was 5min away. An absolute gem! Located within scenic, tranquil mountains, away from the city buzz. Whether you braaing on the balcony or relaxing in the hot-tub, the chirping birds with the occasional calls from the neighbor-hood peacock, brings about an authentic outdoor feel. We booked this “Glen Mountain Gem” for a month in March—we were wowed when we walked in to find a gorgeous pink bougainvillea in full bloom framing the deck, plus incredible weather, and a thoughtful welcome basket of goodies from our hosts. The place was sparkling clean, safe, and very spacious— great for a family. We were very happy to have a locking garage for our rental car right outside the door of our unit. We loved the space and the ability to invite a few of our CapeTown business and personal contacts over for a meeting or a meal. The private outdoor seating and barbecue grill outside our living area were awesome for this. Don’t get me wrong, this is family oriented neighborhood, this isn’t a party rental space, but this worked beautifully for us to have a few people over during our extended stay. The swimming pool and hot tub area downstairs was a lovely shared space with the owners family which we definitely enjoyed. Our hosts generously provided a shower chair for my son who was recovering from medical problems. They also lent us camp chairs for trips to the beach. Above and beyond expectations, the hosts provided a guided sunrise walk with the penguins at Boulders Beach! Yes, we stayed there a long time, and got to know our hosts because of that, but providing a guided morning walk was just not something I expected :-) Couple of things to be aware of: even in warm weather, Glencairn can have high winds. It can be toasty warm during the day, but after dark, it can get cold, so bring jackets or sweaters. Another consideration: this home has a tin roof. Even on clear days, wind makes the roof sound like its raining. There were tons of birds chirping early morning and throughout the day (which I liked!), and the local dogs go crazy when baboons show up in the neighborhood. We totally got used to all of it, but if you want a seriously quiet environment, this place might not be for you. Finally, and not specific to this Air BnB, but for any AirBnB (or any business in South Africa), you could run into “load shedding” where the power company cuts off your electricity (and thus WiFi) for a couple of hours each day. This only happened for one of the three weeks we were there. Our hosts were excellent about communicating this information in advance so we could work around it... But I was glad I had a cell phone international data plan so that I could make calls and check email during those hours. Overall, this Air BnB and our hosts exceeded our expectations. The warm welcome from the hosts, the value and amenities we experienced were wonderful. We would definitely stay there again!

What can I say, these guys are the best airbnb hosts we have stayed with (and we have stayed with over 30 hosts all over the world). The place is huge and so close to the beach. There are many great restaurants to eat at and to watch the sunset from the vinayards close to their house is an unforgetablle experience. This is the perfect place to stay when wanting to explore the cape of good hope national park and to get outside the city and enjoy the beautiful peninsular coast of cape town. Laurette and Ryan will go out of there to make sure you enjoy your trip to the fullest. They know every corner of the area and give amazing recommendations. This place is close to the town on Simonstown. It is a lovely spacious flat. We were all exceedingly comfortable and felt safe and secure. Ryan was very welcoming and helpful. Sadly we did not get to try the hot tub but visited the penguins, the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Town. I would thoroughly recommend this flat to other travellers.

Wow. What a place! Completely took us by surprise. It was a perfect location, amazingly stylish, cool and massive! Lovely views, great kitchen, BBQ (Braai) area, honesty bar, chill out sofas outside, great veranda to relax on. The bathroom was awesome with a huge bath and walk in shower. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were wonderful. We are already planning our next trip!! It was perfectly located for whale watching, bolders beach, Cale Town, Chapmans Peak, Hour Bay, Cape Point, Simonstown and much much more. Great hosts!!

The apartment is amazing - it is a beautiful and individual loft with greats views. It was clean and very well equipped - with a welcome basket with coffee, milk, juice, wine and some snacks on top. We felt very like at home. The area is safe and we had the opportunity to park our car in the second garage. The area is also serviced by Uber what makes it very easy to get to all the great spots on the peninsula. Now this is a real mountain gem, as the name suggests! We have been staying for 5 weeks in this wonderful, peaceful AirB&B, which comprises the top floor of Ryan and Laurette’s house in Welcome Glen. It is very spacious, and we loved the industrial design. It has all the necessary equipment. The kitchen is well equipped and there is fast speed WiFi, a modern (large) flatscreen TV with Netflix and Apple TV provided. The master bedroom has a lengthened queen size double bed, very recently (in the first weeks of our stay!) completely renewed. The area is secure and safe, and having our own garage (from which direct entrance to our rooms) is a bonus. The attraction of the location is obvious: it is in the very middle of the Cape Peninsula, so not too close to the busy area of Cape Town itself, and there are lots of interesting places to visit (Simon’s Town, Cape Point, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay all nearby). We also liked the free use of the (little) swimming pool. There is a hot tub available for guests who like that (not us). We were there in a period that the region supposedly should have very warm days, but temperatures often kept stuck around 22 degrees Celsius, which we however find very agreeable, considering the wet, dirty cold in our home country! The downside is that the balcony can be very windy, and in the evening that means sitting outside tends to be a little chilly. We understand that the hosts think of placing permanent wind screens, which would be a good idea, we think. This wonderful place has one downside, and that is the combination of noises and noisemakers. The noises that the metal roof construction may cause (especially when the wind is blowing more than average), are disturbing enough for light sleepers to take precautions (earplugs). The noisemakers are the dogs in the neighborhood. Apparently, possible out of security reasons, lots of houses have 1 or 2 dogs (but not this one), but dog "discipline" seems not to be an item of importance. It seems that all dogs are always outside and if one of them starts barking, you can have a whole concert. Having said that, this "noise paragraph" should by no means be a reason to avoid this amazing AirB&B. We found that the use of the air conditioning at night, in combination with earplugs, normally guarantees a good night rest, so it never compromised our experience of a great time here. Last but not least: if the term "superhosts" should cover a sort of spectrum, Ryan and Laurette are definitely in the absolute top segment. Lots of thanks to our hosts!

Stayed for two weeks over Christmas. Our hosts were friendly, discrete and quick to trouble-shoot. They even provided a Christmas tree. The apartment is the top floor of their house, with separate entrance. There’s a pool downstairs in front of the hosts living space. Thoroughly recommended - also a great location and very safe.

Great airbnb close to Cape Town which I can fully recommend. From the beginning to the end we had an awesome stay. The flat is really clean and nice designed. For the car you have your own garage. Laurette and Ryan do respond very fast and are great airbnb hosts. If you like you can always join them in the evening for a glass of wine. They prepared a welcome gift and at our last day we were so lucky to be invited by them to a great fish barbecue. They also help you planning your day trips. There wasn't any downside. I hope I will be able to come back in future holidays.

Out of all of the Airbnb homes I’ve stayed at, this has by far been the best stay! From the snacks and wine upon arrival, to enjoying the gas bbq on the balcony with stunning views overlooking the mountain, we couldn’t have asked for a better home (away from home) for the long weekend. Ryan & Laurette were extremely accommodating and so friendly, and just a text/shout away if we needed anything - Even if it was a cheese grater at 10pm :)) We unfortunately didn’t get a chance to enjoy the hot tub they heated up for us, but we surely will next time! A gorgeous, stylish modern apartment with great features, nestled in the tranquility of a peaceful valley just 3 mins from the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would like to extend our thanks to Laurette and Ryan. They are outstanding hosts - from the small touches like great coffee on arrival and the preconfigured Netflix, to their amazing hospitality and friendliness. They made us feel incredibly welcome and our kids had an absolute blast. The location is great - just a few minutes drive up from Glencairn beach, the house is nestled on a quiet street flanked by trees, with a sweeping view from the expansive balcony over the valley. The new shopping complex with Woolworths and some great restaurants is 5 mins away, Simons Town / Fish Hoek / Kalk Bay / Noordhoek are each no more than 10 mins drive. This home is so well prepared for guest, it's excellent for money. Completly seperate area from host, well prepared own kitchen and verandah in the beautiful valley view. If you don't mind sea view from the home, this is best option. Roof structure were bit noisy in night time, you can prepare sound protection for sleep, this is perfect and worth of money. They are really amazing family, if you are alone or girls only, this is cosy and secure place to stay. I will recommend to anybody. . The hosts were very thoughtful, leaving us complimentary wine, juice, cookies and coffee capsules! It was great sitting on the veranda, watching the landscape while enjoying a cup of coffee in the mornings. You have a choice between a gas- or wooded braai (grill). The amenities are upmarket, and since the entire 1st floor is yours, it feels like you are renting an entire house. There are two beautiful towns very close by, with lots to do for adults and children. Don't hesitate to give Laurette and Ryan a try!

Hosts were very good and so friendly. Good location with one of the best views. Would definitely recommend a few nights stay if you want to get away from the everyday life. Thanks again for your hospitality.

What an awesome spot! It is such a warm, modern and practical home with all the conveniences needed for an unforgettable holiday or business trip. Laurette and Ryan are outstanding hosts, who made us feel welcome from the word go. Their lovely home is very centrally situated between the most popular beaches in Cape Town: Muizenberg, Simonstown, Kommetjie and Noordhoek! There is much to do in the area and the Welcome Glen Valley has a magical peaceful tranquility - the perfect spot for nature lovers!
