The space

Step into a beautifully renovated home featuring a spacious open-plan living area that flows seamlessly onto a covered patio—perfect for relaxing and soaking in the natural surroundings. Two of the three stylish bedrooms open directly onto this space with large stack doors, bringing the outdoors in.

Located in the prestigious Cathkin Estates, a secure wildlife estate, guests can explore a scenic 5km walking and jogging trail right on their doorstep. The home is also ideally positioned near shops, restaurants, and a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, river rafting, horse riding, and more—making it the perfect base for an adventurous getaway.

Guest access

The estate features rolling grassland, streams, two dams (catch and release) and approximately 10km of hiking and mountain bike trails, as well as over 5km of tarred estate road surface ideal for road running. There are no houses to be seen from the veranda of Haus Mikaya that has a built in wood/charcoal braai from which the sunsets over the mountains are especially breathtaking. Blesbuck, Reedback, Eland, Duiker, Waterbuck, Zebra and the endangered Oribi antelope are some of the wildlife that roam the estate which also boasts a short 4x4 route, picnic spots and three waterfalls that can be visited via the hiking paths. DAMAGE PROTECTION
This property is protected by Just Be Lekker (JBL), the travel reputation platform. Guests are required to pay a R800 non-refundable damage waiver fee (R10,000 worth of accidental damage cover) OR have a R5,000 refundable security deposit hold placed on their card to gain access to the property. The guest will be sent a link by JBL to verify their booking.

Please note that should a guest choose the refundable security deposit, a R47 service fee will be charged by JBL. This fee covers the cost of verifying the booking and ensuring the property's protection. Just Be Lekker aims to provide a secure and reliable booking experience for all guests.

While the security deposit / damage waiver fee will be processed 1 day before check-in, we advise you to complete the JBL verification process as soon as possible to avoid any complications with your booking.

BED CONFIGURATION
The single beds in the second and third bedroom can be converted to a king. We just require 3 days advance notice to set it up.

EXTRA KIDS (MUST BE ARRANGED 3 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL)
Two mattresses (with linen) are available for 2 additional kids (under 12 years of age) which can be put in the lounge.

CLEANING
We provide guests who book for 4 days or more with 1 complimentary clean on a weekday (excluding Public Holidays). Additional cleaning can be arranged at R350 per day subject to availability (Sundays and Public Holidays are double the rate). Additional cleans on a weekend will require guests to collect and drop off the cleaner at the estate gate as there is no staff transport available on weekends.

LOADSHEDDING
In the event of loadshedding, the property has a gas hob, an inverter to power the wifi and tv and there are rechargeable lights.

We had a lovely few days stay at Serenity Cottage. The setting was peaceful and the home was well maintained. Everything was spotless, comfortable, and exactly as described. Communication was excellent, and the hosts were friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend for a relaxing getaway.

Had a wonderful stay in the house “Serenity” on Cathkin estates. Sereen is what it is; a very nice private place in a quiet area where there is still plenty to do, with both beautiful and less beautiful weather (rain and 10 degrees was not what we had expected, but that did not dampen the fun). Beautiful hikes in the Drakensberg Mountains and also a number of very good restaurants in the immediate vicinity (Dragonview lodge was our favorite). Definitely recommended!

We booked the place because we were doing an event at Champagne Sports and needed accommodation for our staff. firstly we were not aware of the 5000rand refundable deposit and also we booked the place because there was a truck access but we weren't allowed to take our truck to the house, otherwise everything was great.

Great stay! The place was quiet, impeccably clean, and incredibly comfortable. The fireplace added a cozy charm, and the breathtaking mountain views made each morning feel like a scene from a postcard. It was the ideal setting for a peaceful escape. Would absolutely return and highly recommend
