It was cosy and fairly comfortable. Bedroom was big and roomy.
The bathroom was nice and warm. The sitting room was very warm and cosy.
The cottage wasn't as clean as we hoped - dust on shelves and on cooker hood in the kitchen.
There were cobwebs on the mirror in the bathroom
Upon looking in the cupboards in the bathroom, for spare loo roll, we discovered a mould-covered first aid kit..
The hallway and stairs fellt very cold and damp and smelled slightly of mould.
No food waste bin/collection.

The location is spot on ! 2 miles from Bamburgh Castle and the east coast and superb beaches.
Cottage is set in a small group of old farm workers cottages in a rural location with a very quite road along side.
The kitchen was very clean and had everything you needed for your stay.
The lounge was clean and comfortable with a view out onto the woods outside.
Nice clean bathroom with a lovely shower.
Large bedroom with large comfy bed and a view out onto the woods.
The balcony at the front of the property is a nice touch with seating looking out onto the woods.
Great location and cottage was comfy and clean.
The TV downstairs wasnt working on arrival so had to call Host and Stay but kept getting cut of so had to leave a message.
Staff did get back to me and following day Staff came out and sorted the issues with no problems.
WIFI was hit and miss but nothing can be done due to the location.

Location great for Bamburgh etc
Cottage warm
Parking good.
Internet poor ... wife okay ...me, not so.
Late , seemingly compulsory breakages insurance , very unimpressive. Sneaky. Detest sneaky tricks. No need. Be upfront.

Cosy Cottage, with warm electric fire. Plenty of clean towels, shower products and dressing gown provided. Very large bedroom. Clean spacious bathroom and shower. Lovely location. Lovely little decking area out the back.
Issues with Wifi sometimes getting a signal, wasn't really an issue for me but might be for others staying.

Very clean with a few extra touches like bathrobes and a bike store.
There was a bit of an odour in the hallway but sorted with air freshener.

Excellent facilities. Very quiet location. Even though we were adjacent to other guests we never heard them. One of the most peaceful breaks we have had. Cannot fault the cottage. It had some cobwebs and spiders but it is the countryside and that's to be expected, they were no bother. Would definitely recommend and hopefully we'll stay there again at some point. Location is good if you want to visit Bamburgh,Seahouses or Alnwick
Nothing not to like. Everything we could need was there

good location, Property well positioned for visiting the surrounding area. Nice rural area to stay in.
Easy access to the property and everything needed for the stay.
Stairs quite steep, alright for us, but could be a problem for some.
Extra cost for damage insurance not made clear at the booking stage and the management company are very pushy - We felt that were over the top pushy.

What was a problem to us was no upstairs loo. Our fault we should have noticed when we booked.

Beautiful little cottage. Best thing was the deck, where we sat and relaxed to the sound of birdsong, breeze in the trees, and the babbling stream nearby.
A bit tricky to find and lanes are very narrow, so wouldn't fancy walking there.

Location was good, close to beach and Bamburgh Castle. The property was clean and well presented
The wifi was almost non existent whilst in the property there is a note it is intermittent i was not able yo use it throughout my stay. This should be clearer when booking not when you get there. An awful smell in the hallway which made me feel a bit sick, I complained about it and was told maintenance would attend but no one came

Location is idyllic, quiet, and very close to Bamburgh. Less than 5-minute drive to the castle. Easy parking, excellent facilities, and well furnished space. Was very pleased with what we received for our stay.
There is a required damage deposit scheme, and there's no option where you get 100% of your money back. This is contrary to the policy outlined on booking dot com, and it resulted in a stressful exchange where I was unwilling to pay extra to gain access to the property over and above the fees I paid on booking dot com.

A lovely comfortable well-eqipped cottage in a beautiful setting.
The bathroom being downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. Awkward for trips to the bathrooom during the night.
I was quite shocked to receive a request for insurance payments - either £25 (non-refundable) or an actual payment of £250 which they said would be refunded minus an "admin charge" of £10 if there was no damage to the cottage or its contents. This was not mentioned when I booked and the request arrived very close to the booking date and the last date after which free cancellation of the booking was not possible. It would have been difficult to find an alternative. I have never experienced this before on booking.com or any other booking and I have to say I resented it.

Lovely quiet location and very clean and comfortable, had everything we needed we to hand.
Didn’t like having to pay £250 security deposit up front and having to wait for refund. I understand why it’s needed but never had to pay upfront before. Always just given card details in the past.

Poppy cottage was a lovely place the photo's on site don't do it justice. As we entered it was lovely and warm we walked through the sitting room and what a lovely view from the window a lovely balcony as we opened the door to investigate the balcony all we could hear was the birds and the river running by absolutel bliss. Definitely return but in the summer so we can take advantage of the balcony
The weather we went mid March so wasn't the best .obviously that's got nothing to do with the host's was still a lovely stay

the cottage was clean and comfortable and furnished to a high standard. It had everything we needed. The robes were a nice touch and made it feel special. It is a short, easy drive into Bamburgh and conveniently placed to reach Lindisfarne and other places of interest.
The bathroom is downstairs , which was quite a trek if you needed the toilet in the night. An upstairs toilet would have been good. There is space in the bedroom for one as it is huge.

This place is really in the outback, sat nav sent us up a really narrow lane and there was a tree blocking our path, it was just after the storm. If you like places off the beaten track and peaceful this is the place for you. The cottage is good for parking and has got everything you need for your stay. Nice enjoyable stay

Lovely quiet location. Cottage well furnished and decorated and very comfortable. Shower room excellent, helped by the underfloor heating. Comfortable bed and very spacious bedroom.
No Wi-Fi and limited internet connection during our visit but there was a notice advising of this - good if you want to get away from everything.
Have to have a vehicle as no shops/restaurants/cafes within walking distance - again, good if you want to get away from everything

Nice, well presented cottage with all modern facilities; Good size rooms; Very clean; Comfortable, quality furnishings/bedding/towels; Easy location; Quiet countryside setting; Free parking; Warm and cosy once all the heating was working - See below!
We arrived on a cold October evening and no heating was on! Two of the electric radiators wouldn't work and therefore no heating in the very cold upstairs bedroom. There were no instructions so we called customer services. After about three-four hours, the owner's mother attended to have a look, but couldn't get them to work! So we were left to sleep the night in a bitterly cold bedroom - No alternative (like a fan heater or another room) was offered. It transpired, there was a little hidden switch that had been switched off - You'd think the owner would have known or this has happened before!
It states the WiFi is intermittent, due to the remote location. But the WiFi was zero - Throughout our four days stay, it never worked, even though we reset it a few times;
A little remote with very few local amenities.
Compulsory, expensive extra deposit/insurance and admin fee!!!

The lounge bathroom bedroom were comfortable.
Overpowering damp smell. Mould spores on the open brick work up the stairs. Cheap cutlery, no explanation on how to work heating. TV downstairs reception came and went as does WiFi. No details on nearest hospital shops etc. As often no WiFi or telephone this was difficult. Had to report cooker hood did not work.

Beautifully quiet and remote, yet not far from Bamburgh and the sea.
They took a £250 "damage deposit" off my credit card and won't refund it for around 5 days, until they've inspected the property and decided if they think we caused any damage. I can promise we didn't damage anything, and find this to be a highly unfair and annoying policy.

The accommodation itself was lovely, clean and tidy. The location is not ideal if you do not drive a car, you have to walk to Bamburgh in order to access public transport as it’s the closest town. We had to walk about 3 and a half miles to Bamburgh and same again back everyday. However your closest food shop is in seahouses which is a 10 minute bus ride from bamburgh. If you drive a car this is a perfect place to stay! It’s lovely, peaceful and quiet ☺️

The rooms were spacious. Our Bed was comfortable.
There was a poor phone signal and WiFi not strong enough to use. It also needed a check list to tell you what all of the switches were for, The washing machine was in a separate building and we did not know that until we found it. The hot water runs very slowly so you need to wait a few minutes just to get enough water in a wash basin.

Peaceful location, spacious, easy access, everything that you need is provided, complementary milk in the fridge, chirping birds are the bonus 😀
Communication with Host&Stay - ignored emails and questions unanswered despite reminding, generic emails sent repetitively, no reassurance given, explanation provided not accurate to circumstances of booking, had to phone to request code for the key lock as instructions not provided at the day of arrival - even though the company is aware of poor signal & WiFi at the premises - hence knowing instructions prior leaving for the destination is necessary.
No clear information regarding damage deposit/insurance while booking via mobile, not included in booking policy. From an owner perspective - totally agree with deposit/insurance, from a visitor perspective - it should be transparent including access to a damage deposit policy prior committing to a booking. Shame as cottage is lovely.

Clean, comfortable and very well presented cottage. Great location only a short drive from Bamburgh. There is on site parking, a lovely terrace to have breakfast and the kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery and tea coffee. There was a pint of milk and a bottle of prosecco on my arrival which was a nice touch. And lots of towels.
The bed was very comfortable.
Not a criticism, more of a heads up. It is quite a remote locqtion so although there is WiFi it's not strong enough to stream TV.

A lovely cottage, an easy drive from Bamburgh and other beautiful places. Very clean, had everything we needed. Good for parking.
We didn't realise until we had booked that it is run by a third party organisation called "Host and Stay." They ask for ID verification, which was fine, but you also have to pay a £250 deposit or take out accidental damage insurance for £25. Although they said that we didn't have to do this, I had lots of messages from them saying that if I didn't my booking may be cancelled, so in the end I just paid the £25 for the insurance. If it wasn't for this I would have scored the cottage 10 out of 10 as it was lovely!

It was so peaceful, quiet with a sound of the running stream. Bed was very comfortable (took our own pillows),the hole cottage you was able to control the temperature room by room. Would very much like to book again & see the improvements taken up.
Internet connection was very poor, unable to use apps on tv. Lack of cleaning product for the kitchen & bathroom. A pair of tongs would be good whilst cooking. The grill did not heat up very well !!! Very uncomfortable sofa's. Lack outside lighting, it was very dark. Tourch light supplied did not work. Being a 4star rated accomindation there needs to be more attention to the cleaning of windows, frames & sills along with cleaning of cobwebs around door frames & doors. Top of the cooker hood requires cleaning (did that).

The accommodation was not fit for purpose -there was no adequate hot water either in the kitchen or the bathroom , and the shower went from cold to scalding hot on its own - it was dangerous. There was also a terrible smell in the bathroom area. We contacted the agent and the owner came to see us . She agreed with the above ,but said could not do anything about it - said the lack of hot water pressure due to the area. When we spoke people in other cottages , they were fine - the owner lied to us - it was just our cottage.
Seee above , plus cobwebs in rooms on day we arrived / car park dangerous at night as no lighting at all. WIFI was absolutely rubbish . We paid nearly £ 900 for a week in September - it was a rip off - AVOID .
Owner not interested - when we complained to Booking.com who we booked it with , they said owner ignored their requests for info on our complaint. AVOID .

A very comfortable, quiet cosy cottage in a good location for visiting the beautiful local area.
The free wi-fi was diabolically slow which was a bit frustrating for sharing photos we'd taken with friends and family but really that's a first world problem and would not stop us from staying at Poppy Cottage again. Just something to be aware of.

The keys in the lock box made it really easy. The cottage is very spacious and well heated. In the middle of nowhere which could be a downside for some but so peaceful and dark at night. Lovely touch to leave some fresh fruit, milk, eggs and chutney. Also nice to leave tea towel and scourer as we’d forgotten to take them. Nice soft dressing gowns also were really welcomed. There is a small built in cupboard with ironing board and iron and hangers with enough storage for a weeks stay.
The cleanliness wasn’t spot on. I saw another review about the rinse cup in the bathroom, this was dirty. There were also quite a few cob webs and dust around door grooves. The stair carpet was also threadbare on the inside of the riser (very strange place for it to go) which made it look tatty. Could do with some coat hooks by the door in the kitchen so you aren’t carrying soaking wet coats through the living room and hanging them up over carpet. The wifi was not working when we got there but luckily enough we have the same access point at home and realised there was no light showing so it had been switched off so we managed to fix it. Wifi is restricted so you won’t be able to stream movies etc but good enough to surf the web and play games. Floor in the storage cupboard in bedroom was dirty and had damp starting to appear on the wall.

Breakfast self provided! Peace and quiet welcome; underfloor bathroom heated! Easy access to Bamburgh and the coast; good parking; we were at colleges between 1958 and 1963 and our stay was part of our wonderful nostalgic visit!
This is difficult! The only drawback ( for the now elderly was the downstairs loo in the middle of the night!! A price worth paying!

Poppy cottage was fantastic, tucked away in the countryside, but found it easily. Clean and comfortable. Huge bedroom with a lovely outlook onto wooded area. We saw a hare hop by one morning. Lots of wildlife around. Tranquil and relaxing. Easy access to North East Coast sites. Large supply of toweling. We found a CoOp not too far away for stocking up. Plenty of parking at the property.
No issues. It's down winding lanes, but we never met anything coming the other way!

Quiet. Location near Bamburgh is good but need transport. Plenty of towels provided. Parking outside the property. Bed very comfortable and king size a plus!
Old cobwebs in corner of windows, thick dust on skirting boards, shelf in bedroom dirty, no room in ice box as fridge needs defrosting (would have been helpful to know there was a communal freezer in laundry before the last day when I found it). The bedroom light should have had 3 working bulbs but only 1 was working and the fitting was covered in cobwebs. No dishcloth or washing up brush provided. Think the information about the heating needs updating on website. When you know how much is charged for cleaning it's not good finding it still dirty in places especially when the customer is expected to parcel all dirty laundry ready for collection.
Also the continual emailing of verification emails even after we'd done it, also not happy at having to email a copy of my passport as I've used booking.com and Airbnb lots in the past and never had to do this before.

The house is clean and the location is quite and serene. Unfortunately, there was no wifi throughout my stay and Stay could only offer 20% off future bookings with them as a compensation. Lovely pubs , cafes and restaurants nearby , but enough facilities inside the cottage to do your own cooking etc , Good linens , super fluffy towels and a fabulous big bedroom with a comfortable bed .

A lovely stay with great communication from the host. Very clean apart from the toothbrush cup which hadn't been cleaned and a few things in the kitchen which we cleaned again. Lovely location, nice balcony and the cottage was bigger than expected! Didn't realise there was an upstairs too and the rooms are very big yet cosy. The bathroom is good and the shower is good too however I would advise taking your own shower gel and shampoo which luckily we did as otherwise there was just a small bit of both for two people for three nights which wouldn't have been enough. Overall it was a great stay which we really enjoyed. Maybe an extra teatowel in the kitchen would be good too as there was only one. Could put bird feeders on the balcony too maybe? Very easy to get to overall and close to Bamburgh and also close to Belford which has a good Co Op. Can get cold and a little damp in the cottage but the heating is good.

Peaceful location. Well located to reach local attractions.
Central heating instructions a little confusing.

An incredibly peaceful location. Very quiet even with being immediately adjacent cottages. Access to a dishwasher would be useful.

We enjoyed the stay, it's very quiet here. We also enjoyed walking along the public right of way to the pub in Lucker, 1.5 miles away. The location is excellent for star watching because of the low level of light pollution. If you need to work online, you may find the wifi connection a bit slow. Easy access to Bamburgh and the coast. We would also recommend a visit to Chillingham to see the wild cattle and the castle.

Very well equipped with comfortable bed. Not as cosy as you might want if staying in winter. Bamburgh and the beaches about an hour's walk through the fields - with lovely views across gentle mixed farming land to the sea.

Poppy is a lovely cottage with an exceptionally nice, sunny, peaceful terrace - perfect for relaxing and a drink or two! Rooms are all pleasant and the location is great for exploring the coast and border hills. Just be aware the bathroom is downstairs

My wife & I enjoyed our holiday enormously. So much so that we were delighted to find we could extend our stay in Poppy Cottage. The location is perfect for so many attractions and we enjoyed many a walk. The property was in a small complex of stone buildings. The walls were sufficiently thick that we never heard a sound from any neighbours.
A simple but perfect country retreat.

Poppy cottage is extremely cosy and sparkling clean. Even in February the surrounding area is breathtaking and coming back to a warm cottage helped us brave the cold Poppy Cottage is a lovely location from which to explore the borders and it's not too far to Edinburgh.
