the location was lovely and you could see that the property had real potential to be a lovely stay.
most of the crockery had chips in which for a company is easily fixable, same goes for the stain on almost every piece of furniture, it had random nails sticking out of the wall behind the dining table, the bins had nothing in the to stop your rubbish going on the floor, furniture was chipping away, falling apart even and when you sat on the couch you pretty much went straight though it.

This property is disgusting for cleanliness. Not vacummed, a dirty cloth was used to wipe the hob, tap and worktops. My wife placed clothes on the coat hagers then when taken off to wear they were full of white dust!!!!! Absolutely never again.
We went home a day early it was a disappointing stay....never again!!!!!
We contacted Host and Stay at 4.55pm our first night but no reply, they eventually returned our call at 8.22pm asking if they could send a cleaner which we refused as we go to bed at 9pm, if they would even arrive the same night.
Absolutely never going to use Host & Stay ever again.
The insurance they charge is a con, bedroom carpet was burnt by an iron previously and hasn't been renewed.

Great location, nice cottage but needs some tlc
The mattresses where absolutely shocking need replacing ASAP, the shower heads where mouldy especially the top floor one, my son refused to shower in it, it was clean ish but found the kitchen cupboards with stains down them, crumbs on the work tops which I cleaned, and dust on light fittings, lamps etc, also looks like renovation work is been carried out with half jobs finished and not cleaned after, white plaster on first set of stairs all the way up, also the cleaning stuff, vac etc just chucked under the stairs in full view, Could do with a curtain or something. It's a beauitful place and I'm sure once all is corrected it will be a lovely cottage.

The location
The property did not look like the photos.
The beds were not very comfortable.
There was no hand rail for the stairs.
There was visible junk.
Decorating started but not finished.

great location, quirky little cottage, clean and tidy
stairs were fairly dangerous with hardly any hand rails, anyone with mobility issues would really struggle with them. The mattresses were shocking!!! well overdue replacement. fixtures and fittings were worn and tired.

This property has been well upgraded. However, the steep gradient of the stairs is worsened by the lack of a safety hand rail. I visited with two guests in their 80s and inevitably one slipped from the stairs and narrowly escaped injury. I warned the host a week before our arrival of the danger yet they failed to install an adequate hand rail.
Threadneedle Cottage is well situated in the heart of Whitby, albeit in a somewhat grubby back alley., right in the heart of the action. The kitchen/diner/lounge has all you might need during your stay - dishwasher, cooker and microwave, also crockery, glasses, cutlery and other utensils. There's a TV with Sky. There are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. Heating is provided by electric radiators which more than coped. The beds were clean and comfortable. There was mould in one shower and a towel rail starting to come away for the wall. Otherwise decent value accommodation, but I can't recommend because of the hand rail issue!

The communication with Charlie was excellent. The property was very quirky / cosy and well equipped.
We had ongoing problems with the wifi - all 4 of us. FB pictures not loading and the Alexa we brought was really intermittent which spoiled our music options. Clearly there was work underway to wall panelling, bannisters and damp areas which was a bit of a negative yet we understand it was needed. Honestly the 2 settees, were quite grubby and could do with cleaning / replacing.

I liked location central to everything ,colour scheme and pictures nice for holiday cottage
I didn't like walking in to see clutter,Henry hoover and cleaning stuff dumped under stairwell.Dirty throw blankets over settee, beds.Very dusty, sink stained, mouldy tiles in shower,no hand rail on stairs dangerous walking up and down especially carrying wknd bag.signal was bad and couldn't get t.v to work well as had 2 boxes, sky and other.Carpets in bedroom was stained and cottage smelt of dogs.Decorating was in progress cladding on walls but wasn't nice to be seeing unfinished. No mattress or pillow protectors just a mattress topper because springy mattress.Such a shame as photos when booking it looked really nice but paying £258.40 for 2 days then after booking another £25 for insurance it was expensive and could have got something much better value and special. I couldn't download all photos to show how bad it was.

Location was great as it was near everything and easy to find
- Mattresses are awful, very thin with springs poking through
- Mould in both showers
- Paint peeling
- Stained sofas, carpets and furniture
- Plates & cups chipped
- TV not programmed so couldn't watch anything
- Mess under the stairs
- Doors don't close properly
- Dirty windows
- Smelt fusty
- No handrail on very steep stairs
- Decorative panelling started but not finished

Threadneedle Cottage is in a perfect location, very central to everything Whitby has to offer. We didn’t mind the noise of everyone enjoying themselves on Saturday night as that is to be expected with such a location.
The cottage itself was a little bit tired, mattresses need replacing for definite and the bedroom furniture is stained and needed a wipe before we arrived. There was also a dirty cup put back in the cupboard. The panelling on the stairs is not only unnecessary (due to the age of the building) but also unfinished.
The kitchen has everything you need except washing up liquid (although it had a dishwasher with tablets). The living area is small but they’ve maximised the space with how they’ve arranged the furniture and the bedrooms are big.
It just needs a little bit of love and stronger WiFi!! That was shockingly bad!!

Where do i start about this property. Stains on the sofa and crumbs down the sides. There was cutlery and crockery left in the dishwasher from the last residents. As you go up the stairs, the skirting boards are very tatty, stains on the carpets throughout the property. In the bathroom the grouting in the shower was black with grime. This property needs some maintenance.

Just returned from a two night stay here, a couple of things to note before booking
Positives
-Good location
-Enough room for 4
-Tv/Sky is a bonus (but apps don’t work because of signal)
-All major essentials you’d need are provided, kitchen has everything
Negatives
-The stairs- this was my main issue with this house, we had three adults in our stay all without any mobility issues and the stairs are dreadful. They’re extremely steep, no handrail to hold on to and so easy to fall down, if you have children I wouldn’t stay here.
-The parking again isn’t great, we got the scratch card then had to drive around to find a w zone and then walk up and down a hill to get the suitcases in which wasn’t idea, I’d park in the public car park and pay, it’s less hassle
-The house itself needs tlc, the stairs looked like they were half decorated, furniture dirty in the rooms. When we walked in the vacuum, mops etc are just in the corner.
-The beds are ok but very hard, need a thicker mattress

Fantastic location, right in the center of Whitby. The stay had all the basic necessities, new kitchen, a nice coffee machine (could have done with more pods), good showers albeit the bathroom was a bit cramped. Furniture and carpets felt a bit tired and in need of a bit of love. Although the property offers parking permits, I wouldn't recommend if you're driving as there's no nearby parking, ideal for travel by train. If you want somewhere that is central in Whitby, it would be hard to find somewhere better, the location is the absolute selling point.

Property is right in the centre.
Cottage had everything you need inside.
Owners were easy to get a hold off.
Stairs were very steep without no handrails.
Looks like they have started to decorate but they have stopped half way through doing it.
Car parking availability is a good 7-10 walk away.
Mattresses need changing as all the springs have gone.

Fantastic central location for getting out and about in Whitby. Kitchen facilities are very good, everything you would need and tv should you want it. Bedrooms and bathrooms comfortable and nicely fitted out and decorated. Heaters downstairs and in the bedrooms should it get chilly.
No handrail on stairs proved tricky especially for my 82 year old mum. It looks like refurbs are ongoing but this has to be a must with the stairs being so steep. The settees and mattress on second floor are past their best and need to be replaced to be comfortable. The under stairs storage needs to be changed, everything dumped and on view, not what you want to see although understand storage space is limited. A deep clean throughout is required in corners and on bedroom surfaces.

Do not stay here! I would give this place 0 stars if I could have done!
The place was dirty, had a damp and dusty smell, shower was filthy! The towels had stains on them, the carpet is marked and dirty. You should finish diy as it’s making the place dirty and dusty. The furniture is absolutely disgusting in the top bedroom, the amount of dusty is disgusting. Hairs in the shower and around the base and dusty and dirty.
Honestly do not stay here until it’s finished being done up, the pictures are nothing like what reality is. I don’t think this place has been cleaned for months! Blood marks on the sheets! Just stay away I can’t warn you enough!!!!!

The location is fantastic The extra heater worked well to warm downstairs The free to park scratch card was good to have
Thanks
A very poor mattress in the first floor bedroom suspect springs 'gone' did not sleep very well during the stay. The bed side drawer had a pair of knickers and chewing gum left behind clearly not checked and cleaned. Two seater settee close to window has a weak seat base making sitting uncomfortable. Bathroom lacking toilet paper only one roll for two bathrooms is poor.
Thanks

Loved our stay at Threadneedle cottage.
The location was fantastic and so close to shops ,pubs etc.
The cottage was cosy and had a real historic feel to it. Also the bed was super comfortable. The only downside was that internet reception was a bit patchy , but after talking to a few local residents it seems that this is usual in this part of town
It was our first visit to Whitby and we will definitely be back it has an amazing atmosphere and friendly vibe.

Nice but small cottage with a great central location. Clean if a little dated.
The sofas were uncomfortable and at our age (both in our seventies) we found the spiral staircases rather daunting. We also had a problem with the tv but that was fixed the day after we reported it.

Location is in the centre of town and adjacent to the rail station
The living area is really small and would have been cramped if more than 2 guests. Also the stairs are steep and winding which made it difficult to manoeuvre cases etc. Had almost daily standard emails from host and go which were unnecessary.

The cottage is charming and feels like you are staying in a bit of history of Whitby. The location is amazing, right in the heart of Whitby and close to the beaches and town.
Being asked to pay an extra £25 in case of breakages before accessing the property was annoying as these charges should be included in the price when booking.

We had a lovely stay in central Whitby this weekend.
The house was conveniently located near to shops and cafes.
It was perfect for a short break away- we took our dog with us and she loved it. Be careful if you are taking young children as the stairs are very steep.
All in all a great stay
Thank you

The cottage and location are great and I can see beyond the dust and stained bedsheets. What i found annoying was being forced to pay a £25 insurance fee on top of the TOTAL which was described as for 'spills and small breakages'
on paying this I expected perfection. unfortunatley the TV didn't work, the bed sheets had black stains on and there were no wine glasses. not to mention dust and stains in all rooms.
the level of care is not as good from a company as an individual in my experience of Air bnb but the cottage did us well and we liked it.

The location is fantastic, the cottage is very quaint and well presented. It has everything you need. It’s nicely decorated and the bedrooms are really well presented and spacious. The property was clean and tidy when we arrived and had everything we needed for a stay.
I think there are a couple of things that could be improved with ease and would instantly change my ratings to a 10/10. The windows on the top floor were rather dirty, and easily rectified. Unfortunately when we arrived the shower door was broken on in the first floor bathroom and lent against the wall so couldn’t be used ( luckily a shower on the 2nd floor). I believe the sofas and mattresses are ready to be replaced as rather uncomfortable.

Overall we had an okay stay. The property was clean when we arrived although all of the cleaning equipment had been left cluttered behind the Christmas tree. The furniture needs updating, sofas and beds were not comfy and white units in the bedrooms were stained. The water in the bathrooms was instantly really hot and with no warning, and with no indication as to which side was hot and cold. The sewage drains in the street were flooded causing a really bad smell, otherwise the location would have been great. It also would have been nice to have an earlier check in time.

Location was good, parking 10 minutes walking
Parking difficult, log fire was dirty from last guest which was not surprising as no ash bucket or shovel and brush to clean it. As advised we brought our own logs as they are not provided, had to buy bags and shovel to clean fire out before we could use it. We cleaned it after we used it. Microwave dirty on arrival also. Over priced property and stairs are not child or elderly friendly or dogs. Had a pleasant stay overall but have stayed in Whitby before for cheaper and nicer accommodation. On top of price payed £25 breakage fee. We left it better than we found it.

The location was central although that became a hindrance as the weekend progressed.
The place was filthy upon arrival downstairs (which was tiny) the stairs and first floor bedroom was un useable due to the thick dust and dirt. Paint peeling off walls and vac, smelly mop bucket and brushes all in the living room adding to the stench and view. I had to vacuum all the floors and the stairs as well as clean inside cupboards and wash the floor. The sofas were filthy and need disposing of even the throw had seen better days but was better than the dirty broken sprung chairs. Had to buy an air freshener as the place smelt so bad. Hardly any cutlery and one wine glass which broke when I got it out of the dishwasher!! Internet was rubbish the whole stay and struggled to get even standard channels, defo no Sky as lead to believe. Couldn’t even get catch up Tv or link to own networks. The place was overpriced and Mia sold and needs cleaning, decorating and done new furnishings.

Great location, in the centre of town very close to the train station and car parking
The property is very small and in a very poor state of repair, painting and decoration is poor throughout the property with very clear to see damp issues on the ground floor with peeling paintwork and a very damp smell when you enter the property. We intended to have breakfast each morning at the property but decided to eat out instead due to the size and condition of the ground floor. Furniture in the property is poor, damaged and marked throughout.
Although we had a great time, the booking was very disappointing

The location to all the things to do in Whitby was great and central
We’re do I start ,the entrance upon arrival there was a big pile of pigeon mess before you even enter the cottage and also fag ends and rubbish ,upon entering there we’re at least 4 bolts on the front door but only one worked ,the baseboard Infront of the fridge was missing ,a cleaning cupboard under the stairs was in full view ,the log burner (no logs supplied ) had not been cleaned out ,the door of burner didn’t close properly and no poker or brush etc ,upon going to get cutlery for meal we found only enough knife and folks for three guest when there were four of us ,paint all coming off on stairs like it had been mouldy ,stair carpet needed cleaning ,dirty marks on side tables and dressing tables also mould in showers , a lot of these points had been made over a year ago but had still not been sorted by host and stay ,and as you can expect we will not be staying in a host and stay cottage again ,and defiantly not this one

The location was convenient and it looked nice on the pictures.
The 25 quid damage deposit, honestly the place is ready for a refurb and nothing like the pictures, once we actually found the cottage as the directions were awful.we discovered not only is it nothing like the pictures but it's right next to a night club that plays music until 2am.. ,it certainly wasn't clean with cobwebs in multiple places ,mould in both showers, and very dusty. We also found a dummy just under the bed when we dropped something and it rolled under there, aswell as a tablet of the medicinal variety..not ideal if you go with dogs or children. The beds were awful almost like they were made out of old slinky's,as previous reviews have stated,as were the sofas.the walls downstairs have had mould wiped off near the stairs but you can still see the spores coming through, downstairs under the stairs is exposed and full of boxes and cleaning products,I'm not sure why as they clearly weren't used. There is also a second door downstairs which would have helped to keep the noise out but it is currently hanging off its hinges and can't be shut, the main entrance door the top left panel has been kicked in and repaired very badly, certainly wouldn't regard the property as secure. The plinth near the fridge needs re fitting ,the floor downstairs was sticky, the TV unit is peeling, the middle bedroom carpet was stained as is the stairs carpet. Also the majority of the internal doors that are on their hinges are difficult to shut,if possible at all.. the middle bathroom cabinet had toothpaste stains from the previous guests where they had stood electric toothbrushes up,and the upstairs toilet the handle spins all the way around before it flushes. The windows were also mouldy throughout. The stairs also are nowhere near what I would regard as pet friendly, never mind friendly towards children or the elderly.there honestly is probably more but this is just off the top of my head.

Brilliant value for money, perfect location, definitely the wood burner!
Not so much a property dislike, but I made the booking and had zero communication apart from a receipt for the money taken… to the point where I had to call the hosts to make sure everything was set up and to request the check in info and key safe pin… at which point I was then informed I needed to complete customer verification and pay a deposit - we were literally in the car setting off 😂
Anyway, that said, once I’d completed the discussed, Ewan was brilliant and even managed to get us an early check in, so thanks
We’ll see you again 🥂

Location was good if you like to be right near the harbour.
Unfortunately this wasn't the property for us. The stairs are an accident waiting to happen. The property needed some urgent cosmetic attention with damage to walls, dirty entrance, bed sheets stained. I was also disappointed to not have any hand wash at the sinks, no chopping boards and the wifi was pointless as it was so slow to use. The images made the property look a lot better than it actually was. A shame as it could be so much better.

The location was excellent and ease of accessing the property were very good.
There were some issues with the house. Only 2 knives and 1 teaspoon. We bought 2 additional knives and 2 teaspoons so that the 4 people in our party were able to eat together. The shower cubicle door in the first floor bedroom was off it's runners when we arrived. The stool in the same bedroom was broken. The dressing table was badly marked. In the second floor bedroom the dressing table was badly marked and the mirror on that dressing table was unstable and difficult to use without kneeling down. One of the legs on one of the sofas in the lounge looked unstable. There was damage to the paintwork at the bottom of the stairs when we arrived. It was very noticeable and approximately 3" x 4" in size. Some of the paintwork was looking very tired and the kick board under the fridge needs securing.

Beautiful quirky cottage set in an idyllic place, walkable to all Whitby has to offer. Quite hard to find especially in the dark, but worth it once found. Ten minute walk from parking zone spot. Surprisingly not as clean as the photos make out, stains on sofa, inside lock on door doesn’t work, door into kitchen/living area off hinges so couldn’t shut to keep draft out, no fire wood for the fire but heaters did the trick nicely, kick board in kitchen not attached and shower very weak. Unsure why deposit needed due to most things already not kept on top of maintenance wise. This is just me being picky though, I would definitely stay again as loved the cosy cottage feel and location was a big winner! Communication with hosts is brilliant and always responsive to any questions. Good information given for stay. If anyone is questioning a stay here I would definitely recommend.

Thread needle cottage is a charming well converted cottage. The bedrooms are great the bathrooms a bit quirky but fine. It is right in the middle of Whitby with good access to all that this charming town has to offer. However, it is described as luxury and it isn’t. The small sofas are stained and uncomfortable. No one had turned any heating on prior to our arrival and it took 24 hours to become comfortable. The first thing we saw was the vacuum cleaner and mop bucket in the living room. There was one tea spoon, 2 knives and 3 forks in the drawer. The pans are battered, the rug in the photo is missing. Given that there is a compulsory damages deposit/ fee, these things should have been addressed. The whole place needs a good clean. (Behind the tv, the mould in the showers, under the beds, stairs and skirting boards). It is small and cosy, the photographs give a false impression. We are habitually positive reviewers but feel this property is not being operated to the expected standard.

Situated near the harbour, very convenient for the town, comfortable bedrooms, nice bathroom facilities.
Heating system took a long time to get going, not really powerful enough for February. There was a log burner - but no logs! TV setup was unusual, we weren't used to a Sky box.

Lovely little cottage, great location.
Living room door didn't close properly so when you were sitting in living room it was very very cold. Only other issue we had was the stairs, quite narrow and steep, I know nothing can be done about them but worth mentioning in case you have mobility problems.

Cottage in a fantastic location with a wide range of food and drink on your doorstep. Great cocktail bar next door with delicious drinks and friendly staff!
Missing some basics if you were planning to eat in. Only one pod of coffee for 4 nights, two forks, no salt, no tea towel or firewood and we ran out of toilet paper.
Bedrooms very generous size and responsive hosts. We had a great stay and loved Whitby!

Good central location and quiet. Warm in winter. Sky TV not Freeview. Modern bathroom showers etc.. Booking agent (Host & Stay) gave very good information.
Wi-fi poor ( 300kbps when tested). Stove would not close properly. Strange collection of cutlery, OK if you only use spoons! Furniture rather old.

Very central, cosy cottage. Bedroom was spacious.
No parking anywhere near property. Blind in living room fell down not long after getting there - although it had looked like it had fallen down many times before as the paint was chipped around the window. Odd bits of paint/plaster missing around the place. Crumbs on the sofas downstairs. Downstairs was very cold even with heater on full blast. Shower had no pressure at all. Internet also didn’t work, we were connected but it had zero signal.

The location was great, very central. The property has a lot of potential but was not in good repair or as clean as it might be. There was an additional charge for property insurance from the letting company which wasn’t mentioned , expected to welcome.
The furniture could be in better repair. He showerhead in the bathroom was dirty. Opened sachets of body wash were left in the shower, not sure how this complies with Covid or hygiene policies. The mattresses were worn out. Additional, unexpected charge from letting company.

the location is ideal. bang in the middle of Whitby! a stones throw away from the hustle and bustle! it was semi clean, and for somewhere to change and rest your head- it will do!
loved the no extra cost for dogs! well done threadneedle!
starting off with the smell of damp, which is bearable, just a smell throughout the cottage.
the furniture is the cheapest of cheap-which is fine as it does the jobs, however the beds. for the love of Mike, the most uncomfortable beds!! they sink, and can feel every spring! and once you get as comfortable as you can, you realise you can feel the top of the divan! please, change the mattresses!!!
in the first bedroom, there was an mysterious odd wet patch on the floor (no where near the window) we wasn’t able to work out where it came from-it was wet for the entire 3 days we were there! maybe one of whitbys many ghosts?

The location is brilliant, close to the train station, shops pubs and harbour. Lovely little cottage in a cobbled alley. Everything we needed for a 2 night stay, could have stayed longer. We took wood for the fire, very cosy.
The Cottage appeared loads bigger on the photos but is was so cute you couldn't help but fall in love with it.

I gave 4 starts simply for the fact that both beds are extremely uncomfortable you can feel the springs both couples had said the same other than that can't fault the place at all it's a lovely small cottage very clean and bathrooms was brilliant. The location is perfect and we parked at the car parks across the road for £18 for 2 days which we thought was easier than the scratch card parking. The communication from the host was absolutely fantastic nothing was too much trouble and gave full details we found the restaurant and bars list very helpful... Thank you

Where do I start, dust everywhere, damp on the walls sofas where not comfy nor very steardy, the middle bedroom.and bathroom doors did not shut, there was mould in the showers, and in the top room the mattress you could feel every spring there was a clothes rail thing right by the bed, the shower too has signs of mould, we attempted to sleep but it was so uncomfortable, and the instructions about parking I ended up paying for parking as the scratch cards were in the house and the places to park where too far away,

It was fabulously convenient being on the doorstep of the high street and close to the marina, beach and all the amenities.
The cottage was cute and cosy and the duvets were very warming. the carpets were clean the kitchen was clean and compact. The decor was welcoming.
only Three complaints which need urgent attention for the owners to address:
1. The mattresses were beyond broken! absolutely appalling condition with deep sinking dips making the bedding extremely uncomfortable and unacceptable quiet honestly.
2. The 1st floor bathroom door does not lock.
3. The 1st floor bedroom side lamps from ceiling are too low- we banged our heads several times.
4. There were not enough toilet rolls left out and they were very very cheap quality. we ran out on 3rd day and had to buy our own stock!
5. the sitting room sofas are extremely worn out and was very very uncomfortable- felt like they would give way!
6: The 1st floor toilet seat was loose and sink too tiny. some rusting and mildew build up around shower base.
7. the front door was not in keeping with the other doors on the street or the interior of the house. It didn’t feel secure inside and unprofessional number of diy bolts.

The location was central
The Cottage was starting to show signs of wear and tear, it’s was a bit dingy due to the location. The stairs came off from the main living area and there was no door for the under stair storage, all the contents were on display, Henry the hoover, mop bucket, ironing board etc. This array of housekeeping items met us every time we walked through the door, and we sat next to them whilst eating. The sofas were tired and generally the cottage needed some TLC. It’s was nicely renovated overall and was modern, on first appearance it looked positive, but once Staying it revealed it was looking a little jaded.

Very small but quaint property & great location close to the harbour & town centre restaurants, shops & bars.
Lovely relaxed but modern decor, nice soft furnishings etc & modern & well equipped kitchen.
Host & Stay we're very helpful with all the local information such as parking, cafes & restaurants & attractions. I checked a few things over the phone with them & they were really helpful & great hosts.
Perfect base for sight seeing in whitby & easy walk to most of the main attractions & shops etc
Would be nice to know the history of the cproperty, we guessed it was probably an old fisherman's cottage with being so close to the Harbour.
The noise from the local bar on Saturday night. Very loud live music till 2am. Not great for a family with kids but no problem if you're there to party for a weekend.
The noise on Sunday night was quieter & finished around 11pm.
We're not dog owners but the lounge floor near the fire was still covered in white dog hairs from the previous guests.
Not an issue for us personally but the stair case to both 1st & second floor is very steep. Worth considering for people with limited mobility or younger children.
All in all we had a great stay &.would use Host & Stay cottages via booking.com again without a doubt.

The location was very close to the town centre
The construction going on in the adjoining property. On speaking to call centre staff they said that the neighbours had not made them aware of this. Surely it is up to the owner of the property to know what is going on in the close vicinity and if they don't, the cleaners/maintance staff should report this. It was a total rip out with heavy duty drilling starting at 8 in the morning. Had we been notified that this was likely, we would have reconsidered our stay. The noise from the pubs that the cottage is extremely close too was also an issue. The lounge/kitchen is very very small and would really only be comfortable for short stays for 4 people
The stairs up to the bedrooms should be described almost as a spiral staircase. Anyone with any kind of mobility issues would struggle to get to the toilets or bedrooms and it would be hazardous for young children too. The toilet on the landing looked lovely but trying the shower, the riser rod fell off and the shower head was leaking water. The toilet roll holder fell off and the toilet seat was not secured so when you sat on it, it would fall off the base. The WiFI was almost unusable and my husband recorded it as 6kb/sec! I notice now that this has already appeared on reviews and should have been dealt with or removed as a viable option

Small but sufficient for 4 people. Reasonably clean but far from spotless. The surrounding area is good of you are wanting to go and enjoy the nightlife but the pounding music at 2am wasn't something we would have chosen. All in all, the property is fine, probably better suited to people without children - the staircases are very steep. Communication with the host was fine apart from a message requesting we vacate 2 hours before check out which they said was sent in error and did apologise for. There is a smart TV in the living room and a router but the internet was so bad it would not workon the TV and so we just used our mobile data. The coop is just across the road which is handy. Overall it was disappointing and I don't think we will be returning.

The cottage itself was excellent, and the location couldn't have been better. The main problem was that there was no Internet /sky as advertised, and SNY couldn't resolve the issue.
Our only other problem was that they had painted the interior with gloss paint. The staff at SNY were excellent, special mention to Lillie and Hannah for going the extra mile. Will be coming back soon.
Absolutely nothing, couldn't have picked a more central location.

stairs were very steep and twisted ( but it’s an old property)

Location was great.
The look of damp on the outside of the property, the smell of damp on the inside, damp spores on the stairs to the first floor, I personally didn't like the spiral stairs with no grab rail, the sofa's were well used, old and not comfortable at all. The first floor bedroom Mattress was not comfortable at all, as you could feel the springs through mattress topper and bedding.

The cottage is located down a typical Whitby yard and well located. The bedrooms were large but had no wardrobes only hanging rails. The roof conversion bedroom did not have a stool for the small dressing table.
Tired furniture and decor in the tiny lounge. For anyone staying longer than a couple of days there is insufficient cups and crockery. There are 2 sets of steep stairs that spiral around 2 floors into the loft converted bedroom, unfortunately there are no handrails and therefore we couldn’t recommend for families with children or people with restricted mobility.
The window in the family bathroom is not securely fixed with gaps around the frame and the wooden bathroom door does not close correctly.
There are radical refurbishments ongoing in the property next door, which we were not made aware of. These will take some months to complete. The access to the front door is dirty and unattractive. Future guests should be told what to expect.
Unfortunately work on the roof (hammering and electrical sawing/grinding)started from 8:30am during our stay and also in the downstairs area in the evenings until approximately 5pm.
This was not conducive to a relaxing holiday and we would not recommend this property.

Nothing
The property was disgusting, smelt of damp, bare plaster showing through due to damp on the staircase walls and the staircase is dangerous due to being twisted, so not recommended for the elderly or young kids. The property did not seem as though it had been cleaned for ages as it was grubby, untidy and one of the sofas was torn. The liquid soap was empty in the first floor bathroom and the door did not close properly. The photos on Booking.com do not represent this property accurately as they make it look bigger than it is and clean. There were 4 adults in our party and there wasn't enough seating around the dining table, unless you were supposed to use the make shift coffee table as a bench for the dining table, in which case you would need to push one sofa up to the other, pull the table out for 2 to get around the back and then use the bench/coffee table at the other side. The location is central but halfway down an alleyway so the downstairs is dark and I recommend you read previous reviews on Booking.com to understand the problems regarding the nearby nightclub, ie. Music until 3am, drunks peeing in the alleyway, fights, etc. We did not want to stay here due to the state it was in, so we contacted Host & Stay and they were less than helpful in trying to find alternative accommodation for us, so we found an excellent place to stay ourselves and it was a lot cheaper - We will avoid any Host & Stay properties when we book future breaks.

Fantastic location in the heart of Whitby that was convenient for restaurants, bars, attractions and shops. Charming period cottage. Very well equipped kitchen and cosy lounge with plenty of radiators. Excellent 1st floor power shower.
The cottage seemed a bit neglected and needs some TLC. Blocked outside drain and broken pipe outside. No hot water in 1st floor bathroom sink. When we tried to run the water in the sink in an attempt to get hot water, the water ran into the yard outside. 1st floor bed has a dip in the middle and springs which stick out and made it uncomfortable to sleep in. Top of the blind stuck on with 3 small patches of Velcro kept falling down. The kitchen has a floorboard which sticks out and we twice tripped over it. These and other very minor niggles slightly marred an otherwise very pleasant stay.

property was in a great location, just across from train station and near town but never too loud with people and cars passing by
breezy and bright natural lighting, lovely furniture and cute little cottage in general! easy to get to and feels safe
we were going to bring dogs but decided not to due to the beach illness going around at the moment but love that we would’ve been able to have the dogs to stay too! good dog friendly places are hard to find
nice amenities- good having two bathrooms in smaller cottage, dishwasher and telly - all modern. a lot of lighting options so we could make it as dim or bright as we wanted.
overall a great stay, we love whitby and would recommend this property but just some little things that need improving and it would be 10/10
a bit smaller than we expected from the pictures but still nice
bathroom doors didn’t close or lock - don’t stay with anyone you’re not comfortable going to the toilet in front of 🤣
stains on walls and sofa pillows and paint coming off walls outside and inside - tiny bit worn down and scruffy but with bit of TLC it would be great
first floor radiator didn’t work - only had a small fan heater to make do and obviously couldn’t leave it on overnight so was freezing when we woke up - entire house quite cold - not very good insulation on windows downstairs
building work was going on next door nearly every day - we could have been made aware, they were quite noisy in the morning
shower on the first floor either freezing cold or boiling hot no inbetween
hair and a bit dirty around bottom of the showers
overall just needs a bit of TLC and the heating sorted out but still a lovely stay

Fantastic little cottage with lovely bedrooms and bathrooms in a perfect location, especially if you need to be close to amenities like the train station, supermarket etc.
Really enjoyed our stay.
The only disappointment was the oven and grill had not been cleaned and the previous guests had cooked bacon under the grill leaving the grill pan etc needing a good clean, disappointing when you are ready to start cooking your own breakfast! Never the less this was obviously an oversight so wouldn't let that put potential customers off.

We arrived to find the electric radiators not working then found the hob and oven not working. Upon checking the fuse board found the fuses had tripped for the sockets, after resetting them things were ok until we went to bed and found the sockets for the bedside lights not working. the next morning found fuses tripped again, reset and within a few minutes it happened again. We then noticed water coming through the ceiling from the first floor bathroom. The Stairs are steep and and would be rather difficult to manage for anyone elderly and i feel should be mentioned when people book.
