The location was good. Nice that there were 2 bathrooms, one for each bedroom. Good kitchen and facilities. Shops are very nearby.
Living room furniture was a little uncomfortable, only one settee and 2 chairs. Maybe that's being a bit picky.
Neighbour upstairs must have a toddler could hear them running around even late at night.

Well equipped , spacious property with comfortable beds and spacious modern bathrooms
Location superb , very close to town centre , supermarkets and NYMR railway
Ideal for 2 couples each with own space & bathroom with complimentary toiletries
Parking space was for only 1 vehicle - this wasn’t clear in description and we came in 2 cars so had to find alternative parking for 5 days. A common misunderstanding according to the upstairs neighbour who asked us to move one car from his parking space.
Description said 1 double bedroom and 1 extra large double however one bedroom had twin beds which we weren’t expecting as 2 couples!
TV’s didn’t have the normal Freeview channels as stated so couldn’t watch BBC etc without logging into apps, only Samsung free channels
Compared to other cottages where we have stayed found it a bit impersonal, no welcome pack which we usually receive and only online information packs & t&c’s and text messages reminding us when to vacate by.
Our fault that we didn’t read the small print advising the additional £25 damage waiver wasn’t optional
However, overall the superb location and facilities outweighed the above niggles which could easily be rectified by updating the property description.

A very comfortable cottage in good location. High standard of fixtures and fittings and well equiped. The free toiletries very useful and good quality and nice towels.
Good size rooms theougjout and comfortable beds . Accommodation suited 2 couples perfectly.
Great communication.
Could do with a lamp by dressing table in main double-bedded room.
Parking limited to one space but 24hr parking is available nearby at sensible cost

The step into the twin room dangerous, the ceiling light was very low in the twin room and all rooms were dark, the noise from the road was loud. We couldn’t get the hob to work properly.

The property was clean, well provided and comfortable with good wifi and satellite television service throughout. The location was excellent for the town centre, shops, restaurants etc.
The property is located on a main road with traffic lights within 50 yards, meaning that during the day there was a constant degree of traffic noise to the lounge and front bedroom. There is no secondary or double glazing.

The cottage was lovely inside, everything you needed.
The outside of the cottage. You entered by the back door, no garden and very untidy with open bins and weeds. It really was off putting, it made you wonder what the cottage was like inside.

Very practical for the young ones , with it being ground level , and not to many items about , so they had room to play with their own toys etc. And they loved pottering about. kitchen is lovley .The showers are luxury. We all enjoyed our stay.
Only downfall was to have more access to opening windows , was not able to open windows in most of the areas.

2 en suite bedrooms, well appointed kitchen. Off road parking behind property. Location, 2-3 mins from Pickering High St and 5 mins from the Ryedale Swimming pool.
Double bedroom is at the front of the property which front on to a main road. If a light sleeper this would affect you. I'm not and it was fine!

Large living and sleeping areas.Perfect for 2 families sharing and wanting own bathrooms and their own space. The bedrooms are separated by the dining room and entrance hall.
This is our second time at Iris cottage.
Close proximity to shops, restaurants and a lovely fish and chip shop.
Car parking for two cars albeit a tight squeeze.
It used to be an old tannery and it's been beautifully restored keeping the old beams and other architecture.
The neighbours we met were all lovely.
Nicely decorated, cosy and welcoming.
There's no outside space to sit. More lighting outside needed for a night time.
It didn't really bother us but sometimes the road outside the bedroom window is busy.

Great place and location. Unfortunately they require you to pay an additional deposit or take out extra insurance. In addition they required additional ID verification. The duplication was kind of absurd as that’s literally why AirBNB exists.
At the end they offered a discount to book direct next time.
A putty about the host as the place is great.

A lot. Noisy - unclean - general lighting poor - settee uncomfortable which they knew about from previous comments - dining chairs unstable/uncomfortable. - no terrace to sit out on as promised - blue bottle fly problems they knew existed immediately prior to our visit but failed to check - foisty smell in bathroom. E-mail of complaint not satisfactorily dealt with.

Iris Cottage is cosy and central to the area. Has good facilities on the whole, and each bedroom has an ensuite which is good when it's 2 couples staying. Easy, short walk from cottage to centre of town. Two supermarkets nearly at your door.
Kitchen needs a couple more utensils to make cooking easier, like tongs, a larger frying pan and an oven glove.
Outside, approaching both front and back doors could be tidied up to make Iris Cottage more welcoming . .
We had a problem with bluebottles, to the extent we had to buy fly spray. On one occasion on our return to the cottage, after making sure we had got rid of all bluebottles before going out for the day, there were 12 - 15 flying about.

We needed somewhere to stay near Pickering station for NYMR, this place was absolutely perfect. It had a touch of luxury that I doubt you would find in nearby hotels. It acted as the perfect base for our stay. It felt like a luxury apartment. It would make an ideal base for anyone wishing to explore the area. Russells cafe for breakfast is recommended although there is a co-op barely 50 yards away. I would recommend this place thoroughly.

nice spacious but cosy accommodation, and parking to rear of property, comfy bed. Not far from NYM railway which was why we were staying in Pickering.
noise from main road outside property. Maybe if the bed was on the wall alongside the cupboard the traffic noise might have been diffused or possibly wooden shutters on the window. Apart from that a slight problem with bluebottles, found several dead ones on window ledges which we removed but kept finding more so by the time we left there was about 5 flying around. Also in main bathroom there was a fishy smell coming up from shower drain on one day, so we ran the shower for a bit and it disappeared.

The cottage was well located, very clean and well provisioned and I couldn’t fault it.
I wanted to give this review the lowest marks possible but in fairness the cottage was excellent. After agreeing the price and booking you then get hit with an email demanding either £250 deposit or a £25 waiver. I’ve booked a few properties on booking.com but never treated like this before so it seriously hacked me off. I detest these tactics as the price advertised should be the price you pay. I’ve since read other feedback about Host & Stay saying you do get far too many emails reminding you of this and that and on the day of departure a strict reminder you need to be out by 10am or a further charge may be applied. We loved the cottage and the stay was great and it provided small wee touches that you don’t get in all self catering, vinegar, dishwasher tablets etc so that took the sting out of it which is why I gave full marks but in future I’ll check if it’s a Host & Stay property.

perfect position, very well equipped, luxurious and spotless.
The apartment upstairs allowed their child to run constantly across the floor from 5am on the Sunday!
The apartment was meant to have 2 parking spaces, luckily we decided to just come in one car as there was an abandoned motorbike taking up the other space.
Felt it was unfair that we could only park there after check in and not before, we didn’t expect access to the property it just would have been nice to get there earlier and be in the town…
had the bike not been there I imagine this wouldn’t have been a problem
as there would have still been room for the cleaner as well as the other apartment!

Very nice cottage in a good central location, just what we needed for a couple of days.
A bit noisy with traffic on the main road outside the main bedroom, but ok for a couple of nights.
Far too many unnecessary messages from Host and Stay , and not happy about the way we're virtually forced to pay £25 accidental damage insurance ( non refundable, even if no damage occurred)
This should have been pointed out before we booked , not after we were committed.
This will definitely make us think twice in future.

Decor is good although a bit bare in the main living area, could do with a few pictures. It was warm and clean. Spacious. Lovely bathrooms. Showers were great. Spacious kitchen, again a little bleak looking.
Mainly Host and Stay. Although the place was fine I would avoid booking with Host and Stay again. The Insurance they make you buy is an added hidden cost that really annoyed me. Why not just include it in the price as you are not actually paying the price you see. The idea of them taking £500 out of my account was even more unreasonable. The price for the accommodation was already high enough, after paying for that why should I have £500 in my account. I had planned for this to be a relaxing weekend, Host and Stay do their best to make the lead up anything but relaxing. They send endless emails which I struggled to have that one to read as I work. Then there is the insurance process and digital paperwork. During your stay they then start to send rather officious emails on how you should leave exactly on the dot or there will be extra charges etc. There is nothing about this that is friendly. All the automatic emails are signed off with platitudes that frankly make them even worse. If you email host and stay then you get a stock or automatic response so it doesn't feel like you are dealing with someone who cares at all about their customers. I didn't realise when I booked that I would be dealing with an additional company (plus a third company for the insurance). I would much prefer to deal with the property owners and I will certainly look out for the name Host and Stay and avoid them. It makes the whole transaction feel mercenary. I've had other lovely stays, in this town and many other towns and other countries, mainly through Airbnb and sometimes booking.com and in Pickering some just with their own websites or Facebook pages - much better, where you can deal with people direct who might actually care about their property or care that you have a good stay and correspond with you directly.

Location was excellent - just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Pickering, the vintage train station and a stone's throw from a supermarket. Close to York, Whitby and Scarborough. Pickering itself is an attractive town with independent shops, cafes and pubs.
The accommodation was stunning - the photos don't do it justice. Everything was sparkling clean. Comfy beds, modern bathrooms, all the facilities you'd need.
The road is very busy outside so make sure you choose the right room if you're a very light sleeper! Plus the lock box is very stiff so some brute force is needed.
Not overly impressed with a £250 deposit coming out of my account (not just account details held) plus a non-refundable £10 charge for this?
But overall a lovely stay.

this property was nice! the kitchen was lovely, bedrooms and bathrooms decorated to a modern finish. location was great.
if honest this property was not clean, well not to our standard, dust, hairs, stains on towels and bedsheets mould on the undoubled glazed windows, all windows inside and out desperately need a clean! which leads me to the noise of the traffic, for me it was an issue as I’m a light sleeper but it was constant! whilst the bathrooms were very nicely decorated, the lovely wall paper was coming off the walls, plus not a very nice smell coming from the bathroom with the bath, I appreciate if the property hasn’t been used in a while that can happen but still not nice for us! as we arrived the curtain pole was holding on for dear life so again was nervous to draw the curtains. couldn’t use the freezer for ice as it’s all frozen up you can access the draws so no ice for our drinks.
This accommodation was alright, nicely decorated with nice features but it is in need of a bit of diy and a full deep clean throughout, an investment of double glazed windows I feel would help but understand it’s costly!
I know that this may reflect on the price of the cottage as I did look at other cottage similar to this but £397 for 2nigjts is still a lot of money, that’s nearly £200 a night. it was pleasant and I wish you well.

The apartment is decorated beautifully and to a really high standard. The furnishings are comfy and good quality.
The tvs have your standard apps and American channels on the main live tv section.
The equipment the kitchen did have was good quality and hosts provide items for you to wash up / utilise the dishwasher.
Both soft and firm pillows are provided and the beds were comfy however also soft so if you prefer a firm mattress be aware.
The bathrooms are both wonderful with amazing fixtures, the shower is powerful and the bath is wide with a sloped back so you can relax comfortably.
The check in/out process was simple and before our stay questions I had we're replied to promptly.
Overall a really enjoyable stay, just a few minor points!
The beautiful kitchen could be better equipped for cooking and baking. We chose the apartment for the kitchen as we love to cook but couldn't do most of what we'd planned. Couldn't find oven gloves.
The step going into the master bedroom is only carpeted up to the doorway then matches the wooden floor which makes it difficult to see if in any way visually impaired.
The traffic from the street is quite noisy especially on an evening as it's a route for lorries. The host have added an extra layer of protection so I'm sure this helps but we had to have our son's cot in with us as the noise woke him the first night.
The most from the upstairs neighbours is only disconcerting as it travels strangely so it sounds as though they're on the same floor as you.
The radiator in the living room area was switched off when we arrived which we didn't notice at first so it seemed very cold. Was fine once we turned it up though so check they're on.

Ideal location pickering Station a few minutes walk a coop opposite and an aldi near enough next door.. plenty of places to eat...
I was accompanying a disabled gentleman who used a mobility scooter and so the cottage was perfectly located.. loved the fact we both had our own bathroom too..
I fell in love with the cottage.. absolutely loved the decor, actually googled some of the furnishings so I could pinch the inspiration for my home.. ie.. the lighting ...which can be found at ikea 😉
Extremely clean, loved the complimentary shampoo, soap and body wash, and in the kitchen was tea, coffee, sugar and milk plus all cleaning and dishwasher products and washing machine liquid hair dryer iron !! which I've never come across before when in a holiday rental.
Don't get me started on the TVs !!! Every channel you could wish for Netflix, YouTube, and many more channels and free WiFi..
I would highly recommend this cottage it's a little gem 💎 ✨️ 😍
The kitchen utensils could do with some ..tongs. for turning you bacon and sausages 😋 that's the only thing I could possibly think of needed..
But you could cope without them

This was a self catering property, the facilities for self catering were very good. We are not used to all electric, but managed OK. The location was perfect for us and with a little forward planning was pretty easy to find. The property was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. It had clearly been re-decorated and up graded fairly recently. Car parking was easy and OK. The property is 'dog friendly' and easy to look after.
I found the 'verification' process invasive and felt it totally un-necessary. I appreciate the desire to protect the property owners interests, but I feel that this additional and un-necessary step so close to our holiday start date which required a high level of personal information (Some of which I do not possess), to be very invasive. I am not comfortable with it. The re-cyclable waste bins were already full.

This is no bad reflection of the property itself. It was booked via booking.com, who subcontract to an agency called Host & Stay. Host and Stay are simply awful to deal with. I was bombarded with many, many irrelevant emails and clear entry information to the property was not provided in one simple message.

The cottage was beautiful and finished to a high standard.
A few cleanliness issues. I had to clean the fridge before use.
I removed open/used food products from the bread bin and wiped down.
The 3 tvs were unusable due to poor Internet connection.
Although not used, it would be a good idea to have the option of access to the front door for an emergency exit.

Beautiful property, great communication. Would definitely return.
Kitchen probably needs a few more things to cook with, we had to purchase a frying pan. Also, no washing up sponges etc. which we also had to get. Upstairs neighbours know the bin days… have suggested they add them to the otherwise comprehensive local notes.
Only very minor points, we had a cracking time, perfect for two couples as both rooms have a private bathroom.
Would recommend Willowgate Bistro for a lovely meal.

Stylish but really really noisy!!! The cottage is split in two and what’s AirBnB’d is the ground floor only! Yes it’s on a busy main road but the upstairs occupants were really anti social with excessive noise right through to 3:30am in the morning!
On the plus side it’s a spotless apartment, plenty of hot water and nice arrangement close to the Main Street in Pickering.

Great, clean, spacious property. In the heart of Pickering, we walked easily to the station and got the NYMR up to Whitby. Good driving distance to other places of interest. Lots of nice places to eat nearby and convenient for the shops.

Great location and good to have parking space directly behind the property. Property inside has all facilities you could need, all to a high standard and spotlessly clean.
Nothing. If there was a small garden or terrace it would be absolutely perfect but there are plenty of areas nearby to sit outside and relax.

Private parking space to rear is handy and was clean and well presented.
However property is located next to main road which had heavy traffic. The windows are single glazed sash windows. So not much noise is prevented. You could also feel vibrations of lorries going by.
We left after one night. Then mattresses are very soft which may be fine for some depending on your preference but I found it set my back off the next day. Our elderly dog could not settle as in alert from all the traffic.
Told the host we’d left and they assumed we were still at the property and sending messages saying hope you are enjoying your stay and a few days later a message reminding us to checkout.

Very conveniently placed for the centre of Pickering and the NYMR. Supermarket within 2 mins walking distance.
There was no mention that the property was in fact a downstairs apartment. It was a little disconcerting hearing people walking around overhead and playing music.
In the smaller bedroom there is nowhere to dry your hair near a mirror.
House had no outside space, so not suitable if you want a quiet weekend sat in the sun.

Idyllic beautiful cottage.
Everyone loves a quaint country cottage. Beautiful decor throughtout and finishings were to a high standard. Lovely place to stay and just get away from it all. Local shops pubs and bars only a short walk from where we were staying. Lovely and enjoyable stay. Would highly recommend

Great location in the centre of Pickering with added bonus of a parking space at the rear. Property is beautifully decorated and styled and was very clean.
All the pillows provided were very firm, none of us (4 adults) could sleep on them and had to use cushions. Showers were great but trays very slippy, mats would be a useful addition. Outside bins and recycling facilities were overflowing and obviously hadn't been emptied for a while. No instructions provided as to when or where to put them out for collection.

Lovely, all on one floor property which was spotlessly clean, full of all the amenities you would need. Comfortable beds, great showers, nice kitchen. Easy check in and a moments walk from Main st in Pickering. Also easy to get to Whitby, Malton, York and Beverly. Had a super time.

We absolutely loved everything about the property. Communication was brilliant and Iris Cottage was clean, in a perfect location and the decor was lovely. Very impressed

Overall a good experience. We came in late at night and had difficulty finding the cottage and when we called for assistance, the property manager line never called us back. Luckily we found it. The entrance to the parking area is pretty tight, so keep a lookout for that as you go in. Loved the modern kitchen and bathrooms and the living area was cozy.

We had a 3 night stay here unfortunately it wasn’t the best stay we have had, when we got there the code we had been given for the key box was wrong and had to wait for a phone call back which after a 4 hour drive was not needed, when we got into the building it did smell of cooking and one of the bath rooms had some hairs around the sink and toilet, it is well equipped and well decorated I can’t fault the decor at all the bathrooms are lovely apart from the hairs, the smaller bathroom however does have a slight problem that the window has no blind and the frosting is patchy so you can see straight though the glass, the WiFi extender also didn’t work we had to fix this ourself as the bedroom TV doesn’t work without it, there is also no shower gel, shampoo or other toiletries provided which is a shame as it doesn’t cost a lot to provide this, it was a nice stay but we wouldn’t stay again based on the cleanliness of the place and given the fact you are asked to clean down all of the hard surfaces before you leave does make me question why the hairs were missed if it was meant to be wiped down and then cleaned further. It’s unfortunate because it is a well equipped place just needs a bit more attention to detail when cleaning and maintaining the building.

This property was extremely clean, stylish and well-equipped. It is spacious and well laid out.
It may be that we didn’t read the listing carefully enough, but it came as a bit of a surprise that the cottage is a ground floor apartment with an occupied flat above. That said, there was little noise. The property is situated on a busy road and so there was inevitably some traffic noise. The garden alluded to in the listing is simply the concrete back entrance to the property., which was disappointing.
All that said, we had a very enjoyable stay.

Very Clean and fabulously decorated apartment. The only problems we had were the very hard pillows and no alternatives and there was a lack of place to get ready, mirror/ dressing table place. Some noise from the people upstairs but it was a Friday night and couldn’t be helped by the host. Overall a very nice stay!
