The property is of a very high standard and the owners should be very proud of themselves
Unfortunately we arrived late so in the dark and no torch walking around the back of the property, Unfortunately we arrived late, sat nav and map brought us to the exact location but we still couldn't see the cottage, Nobody in the area/pub knew where it was . It was the local fire brigade that helped in the end. I called the number on the message and it was a message only service. The call back took to long considering we were in need of help. This message is to help others it is not a criticism of a lovely lovely property

Beautiful property, lacked a little attention to detail with the cleanliness. Also a shame that there was no wood provided for the fire. Thankfully the campsite down the road sold a great starter pack at a good price. The local pub, The Stiddy, was welcoming and the food was very good.

Very quirky property, lovely location with a private garden, great for dogs and children. Plenty of room for us all. Well appointed house. Beds very comfortable.
Downstairs radiators don’t come on, upstairs does. So house was quite cool on an evening downstairs. No logs for the log burner. Possibly radiators to be bled before winter. That’s the only negatives.

Didn't like the fact that we had no hot water for three days of our break which was very difficult with five adults, a toddler and a baby! Wasn't happy with the lack of support regarding the hot water situation!

Great home for a family getaway. The place wasn’t sparkling clean sadly but it was ok. Take essentials with you like toilet roll, dishwasher tablets, bin bags as minimal provided.
If you want to eat out I recommend pre booking the pub across the road, it’s lovely but we struggled to get in. More things down in sandsend which is walkable but very steep hill. Again, during busy times I’d recommend booking any restaurants there too.
The house is a great size and all bedrooms presented really well. The garden was great but could have done with a bit of TLC, a few nettles etc.
Location great just a few minutes drive to sandsend and ten mins to Whitby. We walked along the beach from sandsend to Whitby then got the bus back which stopped pretty much outside the house.

Really fantastic property that I can’t fault, and we had a lovely time. I’m really disappointed about the hidden fees that were levied with about a week to go before the trip and, whilst technically in the rules and hidden away in the property’s small print, I think it’s really poor.

Nice spacious cottage in a great location. Would be nice to see a few basics in the cottage on arrival, hand soap, washing up liquid, condements etc...especially as you cannot gain access until late after 16.00 pm and local shop is closed.
Would be nice to see the garden more appealing...
Overall enjoyed the cottage and location, great pub in the village and lovely shop nearby.

Clean and spacious house, but only 3 in our party.
Lovely location with excellent walks, and plenty of places for eating out.
Minimum of necessities left; no welcome pack.
Felt pressured into paying a deposit for damage waiver, and still waiting for this to be returned 2 weeks after returning home.

Lovely cottage in great location.
Bedrooms comfortable and nice lounge and kitchen/dinner.
Friendly pub The Stiddy just across the road and superb fish from The Fish Cottage.
Issues with kitchen cleanliness- reported and someone came out to rectify but the place would benefit from a thorough deep clean.
Unfortunately wifi code did not work.
Good communication from hosts and definitely recommended if the housekeeping arrangements can be improved.

The property was is a peaceful location, just of the main road. Close to the village pub serving fantastic pub food and very friendly. Walking distance to Sandsend if you don’t mind a hill but local bus is every 30mins from outside the pub, this will take you all the way to Whitby and in the other way to saltburn. The house is a great size, big garden and nice out door table for when the weather is better. The property itself is very well decorated. We had a great stay. Afew things to note although the property was very tidy on arrival it needs a really good dust and deep clean. The oven was particularly dirty. General supply’s normally found in an holiday lets like washing up liquid and surface cleaners are not supplied so take some with you. This did not dampen the stay though we had a great time and would return. The are is great for walkers and beach dwellers alike. The little community shop was very handy too. All in all great stay and great communication from host and stay.

The house is large and decorated really nicely. The keybox was easy to use for entry. We did struggle to find the place as it's not where the pin says it is, and had to ask in the local shop. In general it was clean, but not immaculate, and I had an orange stain on my towel when we arrived - some places could have done with more of a dust. We had an issue while we were there but the hosts were very responsive and came to sort it the next day while we were out. Fantastic location, 2 mins drive to Sandsend and 10 to Whitby. The damage waiver policy is quite annoying - make sure you're happy with that before you book. It was a surprise to us and I don't see why if we'd gone for the safety deposit it would have still cost a £10 admin fee to get our money back?! (Also thought it was a bit rich given some of the furniture was already broken!) All in all, had a lovely time here and would stay again.

The cottage was superb and good for the money.
l do think the cleaning charge needs to be reviewed.
a few areas in the kitchen need addressing, especially the cooker putting foil over the dirty racks does not on my oppionion make the oven clean. the oven really does need a deep clean.
the walls in the kitchen round the bin needed cleaning for the charge of £125 for a clean is not good

Lovely spacious cottage, plenty of room for 6 adults a baby and a dog for my dads 70th, lovely local pub a 2 min walk away and short drive to coastal hotspots. Potentially could offer a few more amenities in the property such as more dishwasher tabs/bin liners and a few logs for the fire would have been lovely but other than that we really enjoyed our stay

This is a lovely guest house for a larger group! The rooms are really nicely decorated and the bedrooms are all very cosy. It is only lacking in some minor amenities: not enough coffee pods for each guest for each day, only one tea towel, the towels were stained, and there were no basic kitchen items (like oil) which was a shame! But still a lovely place to stay, just make sure you bring everything!

We have just returned from a 2 night stay and were happy with the property. Like other comments - the property is in need of a really good clean, especially the oven and cupboard doors within the kitchen. It could also do with a lick of paint as some of the areas are looking very tired. It generally lacked the personal touches compared to other Airbnb's we have stayed in. I suppose that's due to it being a host and stay property - although, this is the first host and stay we have stayed at. Apart from this, the property itself is very nice, spacious and has a secure garden which is perfect for dogs.
The location is very good but the property is a bit difficult to find as the sat nave directs you elsewhere. The village isn't very big so we found it with a bit of detective work.
The local pub was lovely, great staff and very good food - worth a visit.
All in all, a good property but could have been perfect with a little bit TLC.

Lovely property with plenty of space for two families to enjoy a weekend away. Beautifully furnished and great appliances in the kitchen. Heating was on a constant temperature so the house was always lovely and warm. Literally the only downside for us was not having any logs on the first night to light the log burner, we got some the following day though and it was lovely.

Nice farmhouse in a nice position. Beds comfortable.
The property was unclean in parts. In particular, the smell of dogs in the lounge made it unusable on our first night. Requested additional cleaning which took the smell away for a few hours. We had young children with us that wanted to play in the lounge area but the lack of cleanliness meant we didn’t let them. A real shame as it’s a great space with a lovely fire. This was my first booking through Host and Stay - won’t use them again due to the additional, hidden charges.

We loved our stay here, the house had a great amount of space for all the children to play and we had fun meals around the big table and the house was so warm and cozy. We all loved the village shop which was so quaint and well stocked. The surrounding area was beautiful, I did a run down to the sea and the views are amazing. Great that’s it’s so close to Whitby which had wonderfully unique shops for Christmas shopping.

Middle House Farm was lovely. Homely, spacious, clean, well equipped, high standard and overall excellent. Good parking and a nice garden.
Lythe is a nice quiet little village a short drive from the beaches, Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors.
Host and Stay communication was brilliant, the best I've ever known.

A dirty house. As soon as we walked in, we could smell that the house hadn't been cleaned well.
In the kitchen, the microwave had dirty finger marks all over it. The extractor, splash back, Hob & fridge looked like they had been wiped over with a greasy cloth. The cupboard fronts hadn't been cleaned, there were red wine splashes/food splashes all over them.
The kitchen table was very dirty (turned the paper towel brown!). The table mats had food stuck all over them. Top oven filled with smoke and was unusable - obviously needed a good clean!
In the back garden (which our son rushed out to play in), we found 5 separate lots of dog mess.
The downstairs bedroom had not been dusted... to the point dust fell off the lamps when switched on. The en suite blind had mould all over it as did the window.
To be charged £125 for a cleaning fee is an absolute joke.
If this is a true reflection of the standard of "host and stay" properties, I would recommend avoiding this company on Airbnb

Excellent location and size, perfect for what we needed.
The decor is a tad tired and do with a referesh, also the sofas were not comfy at all. And also there was no supplies in the house, no bin liners, no washing up liquid etc, all cupboards bare. Also no pegs to hang washing out on the line. Minor details I know but would have improved our stay a tad.

Our stay was fantastic,
The place was in a lovely location with a great pub (which also do great food) nearby. You are a 2 minute drive to the beach or a 25 minute walk but be mindful it is quite a steep hill.
The house hosted 7 of us easily and the large kitchen made it great for the nights we ate in/board games!
We had no issues staying here whatsoever and the one thing we needed help on we got a reply within minutes resolving.
Very happy with this stay would certainly go again!

Very poor management indeed. Huge numbers of automated emails, out of date info on the property, very poor appliance info, rang for help but never got a call back. Previous complaints not acted on. They only want your money, not to help you.

We stayed in June, only two of us with out dog so plenty of space. The big benefit of this place was the private parking area next to the house. Also for us a large, enclosed, private garden to let the dog into. Good outside lighting for night time as well as a large picnic bench.
Wi-Fi works and I was able to use my own Fire-stick for entertainment in the evening. There is a small general store within 100 meters for provisions and cakes as well as a pub on your doorstep.
There is dog walking close by either to the church or further afield to the sea with parts you can let them off lead.
This has a shower cubicle and a bath shower with enough hot water for both to be used at the same time, showers are powerful although the cubicles are a little small.
We enjoyed our stay, we visited numerous local sites and filled our four night visit.

Had potential to offer a luxury stay as per the price, however:
The house was freezing when we arrived and as there was no logs to light the fire it took ages to feel warm and inviting.
No soap in downstairs toilet.
Empty Frube packet behind sofa.
Generally the cleaning was not a good standard, coffee marks on windowsills in bedrooms. Oven was appalling. The glasses, mugs, plates and cutlery were dirty had to wash all before using.
No dishwasher tablets supplied.
It’s a shame that there didn’t seem to be any attention to the small details which if in place our stay would have been perfect.
The beds were all clean and very comfortable.
Maybe a welcome pack would be a nice touch.

Everything was great! From booking to checkout the process was smooth. The property was lovely. Very spacious for 8 of us. We had a great time and would recommend the property without hesitation.

Lovely building and garden, walkable distance to Sandsend and the Cleavland Way isn’t far from the house. Also a good location to get to all the other bays and beaches in the area by car.
The bnb itself was great. 8 of us stayed for the weekend and we all thought it was brilliant. Lots of space, beautiful double rooms, nice bathrooms and a large sitting area in the kitchen.
The kitchen set up did feel a little weird as the cooker and grill was at the opposite end of the room to the hobs. The toaster was also pretty much in another room.
Apart from this, everything else was beautiful!

The house was a great size, plenty of room. Everywhere was beautifully decorated and clean. The location was brilliant for us, a lovely friendly pub across the road that did excellent food and a little shop along the road that sold all of your essentials. It's just a short drive into Whitby along the coast road, or you have a lovely sandy beach just down the bottom of the hill where dogs can play. The beds were super comfy too!
Only small criticism was the heating didn't stay on for long, as it was very cold outside we did find we kept having to put it back on. But there is also a lovely log burner in the front room which was great.

The house was gorgeous! Decorated beautifully inside. The rooms were all of a good size. The kitchen easily sits right around the table. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Beds were very comfortable, mattress too soft for me (but that’s just a personal choice) fire in lounge when lit is a great when you have been out in the cold. Lythe itself is beautiful, the small little shop sells the best cakes. We loved it.
The only complaint we have - and it’s the smallest - only saying it so the cleaning team can rectify for the future guests…. the cooker needs cleaning out inside. Smells like something has been burnt in there and it smells the whole kitchen when it’s heating up. Tiniest issue for a beautiful house 👍😊

Beautiful property in a fantastic location. The house was lovely and perfect for a family like us. The disappointing things were the details. For a weekend there were no little extras, no washing or cleaning material. No coffee, no wood for the fire, no condiments, to spend just two nights and have to go out and buy everything seemed a little daft. No instructions or welcome pack. Communication was swift but nobody at host and stay knew nothing about the property; location, things about the property, duvets, pillows whether they were feather etc. we got lost and were told to use G maps. Fantastic property but for the price the detail wasn’t there.

The cottage decor was beautiful, spacious and warm. It was also very clean. The cottage was in a quiet location with good access to beautiful coastline and beaches. There is also a great village shop and pub close by.
When we arrived there was no wood or sticks to light the woodburner. The cottage also lacked a cafetière and when we asked for one there was not one available. These are very small things and should not put people off going to stay at the cottage. But could easily be rectified.

I rate it 3 stars because the heating system was broken. Otherwise, this should be a 5.
The place is beautiful, loads of space, magnificent kitchen, parking, BBQ + table outside.
The surrounding are of course amazing.
The communication was spot on, but sadly they couldn't fix our heating problem. They did provide us heaters the first night right away, but it wasn't enough (against the cold nights).
I would recommend to check if the heating system is fixed, and if so, you won't need to look somewhere else if you are planning to visit North York Moors.

We loved staying out of the way in a real local community, we enjoy walking and it was a great base for that. There is a pub and local shop almost next door! The house is perfect, 4 very well kept and comfy bedrooms and a lovely kitchen and living room with open fire. Highly recommended.

very cosy but spacious, well equipped kitchen, heating on for our arrival, lovely furnishings in all rooms
a couple of our party tripped over the wood surround on the stone path at the front of the property . the key safe maybe could be nearer the front of the property especially if people are arriving in the dark

Beautiful spotless house! Plenty of space with a bedroom downstairs if you’re not out someone who struggles with stairs. Great fireplace and big homely kitchen. The location was great, pub and local shop 50 yards away and 2 minute drive to the beach. Regular busses outside the pub go up and down the Yorkshire coast. There’s also easy access to the cleveland way trail from the public footpath next to the church.
Only thing I can think of to improve is that it would of been nice to have been provided with some firewood as we couldn’t find any locally at any of the shops and garages.

We had a very enjoyable weekend break at Middle Farmhouse. Easy check in. Fantastic location for discovering Whitby and surrounding areas. Very friendly and helpful locals especially in the local shop. Lovely house, we would definitely consider staying again and recommend. Excellent communication with hosts.

Middle Farmhouse is a lovely comfortable property. The location is great, ideally placed for exploring the coastal villages to North and South, as well as Whitby itself. The house has all the amenities you would need and parking for up to three cars. The village pub is just a short walk away, and serves decent food at very reasonable prices. The "secret" garden is ideal if you have a dog, so make sure you find it.

Struggled to find initially as postcode took us down the wrong street, fortunately a resident helped us out. Fantastic property and well spaced out for group sizes. Great location, a 30 minute walk to Sandsend. Highly recommend 👌

Middle Farm was absolute dream of a place to stay for the weekend. All the rooms were spacious and immaculate. The Children loved the garden area and we loved the local pub The Stiddy. Location is great to go and venture into Whitby or Sandsend. We would definitely stay here again.

Top weekend in really good standard accommodation. Safe and secure large garden to the rear of the property. Good for access to the Cleveland Way. Decent pub over the road and a delightful local village shop.

Really gorgeous place, perfect for a quiet getaway. The kitchen is great for dinners/socialising, bedrooms are spacious, decorated to a high standard. it had everything we needed. Just great!
The area is beautiful and only a short walk to Sandsend where the White Hart pub serves the best fish and chips we have ever tasted...and we're fussy! It was our first time in Whitby too and it's a lovely seaside town.

The house was ideal for a family holiday, with lots of possibilities for coastal walks. Whitby is wonderful! Don't forget the bus service too, it seems to go everywhere you need and runs every 30 minutes.

Beautiful house, even nicer in person. Lovely location with people riding horses past the window. Such a nice combination of feeling off of the main road but still so close to Whitby centre and other beaches.
The house is styled beautifully throughout with nice soaps etc in every bathroom.
The beds were super comfy! The house felt and looked so nice and clean.

Well presented cottage in a great location. We enjoyed exploring the local area and visited Sandsend, Whitby, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough. From the door we enjoyed a walk to Mulgrave Castle, down to the beach. Altogether a great family holiday.
