Host & Stay | Dolphin Cottage 1736
Entire home in Whitby, United Kingdom
The space
Upon entering Dolphin Cottage 1736 you walk directly into the open plan living, dining and kitchen space. This bright and spacious area is a mix of traditional cottage design with a modern twist. The L-shaped kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you could need for a short break from home. The dining area consists of a four seater dining table with matching benches.
Continuing into the living area, there are two matching grey upholstered sofas, perfect for a cosy evening in front of the television or for getting lost in your latest read with a hot cuppa.
The stairway runs from the back of the cottage, up to the first floor where you will find a double bedroom and family bathroom. The bedroom features a soft, pale green and natural colour palette. With a wooden frame bed and a matching set of wardrobe, drawers and bedside table this room is simple with a calm atmosphere. Tones of blue and sea green are brought in through the soft furnishings and wall art.
The bathroom sits alongside the master bedroom. A well designed area which utilises the narrow space fantastically. With high gloss white metro tiles and chrome fixtures and fittings the room is modern and tastefully decorated. The bathroom features a walk in shower, WC and basin.
Take the narrow staircase to the second floor where you’ll reach the roof space of the cottage. The surprisingly high ceilings and large windows make this room bright and spacious. Featuring twin beds and complementary furniture, this soft pink toned room feels feminine and chic.
The cottage is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main street, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful side of Whitby.

The location was amazing, a little hard to find the property but once there it was great. Everything lovely and clean apart from under the were a little dusty.
The cottage is quiet, clean, lovely facilities, comfy beds and good curtains/blinds, shower great.
Just under the bed wasnt clean.

The beds, quilts & pillows were very comfortable. The location was ok. The bedrooms were very comfortable and a decent size tho the double bed was pushed up against the wall.
The dingy dark alleyway that you had to walk through to get to the cottage. This was especially unpleasant at night. The constant noise from others in the tiny courtyard. The lounge/dining room/kitchen was tiny with two very small uncomfortable sofas. No way could 4 people be comfy in there. It was freezing when we arrived & we had to ring up because we couldn't get the radiators to work. They switch themselves off after a maximum of 3 hours so you wake up in the night cold. This company Host & stay are all about making money. There were hidden charges we had to pay for insurance but didn't get an insurance document. Everything they do is automated & on line. They offered us a further 'discounted' stay but wanted to charge a booking fee even tho we were already there but wouldn't allow us to leave later than 10(we asked for 11am) due to their cleaning schedule!! We could hear the man next door cough & go to the bathroom. The staircases are dangerous. Very narrow, very steep and twisted. They were also slippy. You need rubber socks.

Excellent stay! It was a bit tricky to find but not when using the hosts instructions and link to maps provided!
The only downside was paying the extra security money on top of what we’d already paid but I can understand why they do it. Would defo go back x

Great place but if driving property listed as 1 Silver st which doesn’t exist and takes you round in circles. On listing look for estate agents as property through alley next door try and park near Angel pub and it’s easy to find.

Comfortable cottage in central Whitby, close to all that Whitby has to offer
Parking near cottage is tricky but we managed to pull up nearby to drop off luggage and pick up parking permit. Finding the correct zone was a bit of a hassle (helped by cottage info) but once we were parked we could leave car and walk everywhere.

Very clean, cute, good location, quiet, good wifi, good instructions,
Kitchen good except fridge
Bedrooms very comfortable
Shower great
Difficult to find as not actually on a road but down a passageway. Parking difficult which makes unloading tricky, especially for those with limited mobility.
Also needs more handrails on steep narrow stairs.
Not a great deal of room in living area
Fridge tiny

Great location and price. Cottage was nice throughout didn't have a problem with anything. clean. Perfect for what we needed.
Only downsides was the parking as we couldn't use the permit as we couldn't find a space so we paid for a carpark. Plus the stairs were abit challenging but they can't be helped would still give 5 stars.

Pros:
- Clean and tidy
- Convenient location
- Easy to get in
- Clear, easy to understand manual/instructions
- Quick, positive response from host when I asked a question
Cons:
- No free parking on premises as advertised in listing
- Courtyard/bin area just outside front door attracted a lot of flies
- Had to pay extra security deposit money to secure booking, despite have travel insurance cover
- Host slow to refund security deposit
- Frequent prompts from host to leave a review felt very pushy in light of the above

Great cottage, tucked away but on the doorstep of everything Whitby has to offer, just a short walk away from the harbour, seafront, shops, restaurants and train station. The interior of the cottage was clean and comfortable. The only thing I would note is, although a parking permit is provided, because of the location of the cottage there is no parking close by, but there is a closer, payable car park for loading/unloading bags. However, a lovely base for our stay!

Very clean and central, comfortable bed,
Could do with bolt Locks on main door, that would make it feel safer
Better directions to the property we found it very difficult to locate ie name of the pub opposite and the name of the estate agent next to the alleyway would help

The perfect place to stay for a short trip to Whitby. We were very grateful for the clear and detailed instructions as to the location of the cottage, as well as the provision of scratch cards for parking which was very much appreciated.
The cottage had all amenities we could ask for, and was clean and tidy.
Easy check in instructions, and helpful advice about the local area.
Will definitely be recommending to family and friends.

A lovely little house, just right for the three of us. The house was very comfortable, nicely decorated and clean, the kitchen was well equipped. Everything worked fine - wifi, TV, heating, getting in and leaving. The directions for parking and getting in and parking were very clear. We really enjoyed our stay and would book again!

The accommodation was really nicely finished, and clean. Plenty of equipment in the kitchen if you want to cook, with a few useful essentials, do make a cuppa on arrival, which is always nice. and tv with iplayer etc.
It took a bit of finding, as not accessible by car, and on street parking and public car park was a short walk away, so had to carry bags a little way. Once we had sorted the parking out, permits etc it wasn't an issue.
Easy to walk into the town and local shops etc.

The location was perfect, the cottage was spotless and very well equipped.
We particularly liked all the information re key code/directions to the property and messages from Host and Stay which made our arrival and entry to the property easy and effortless. Thank you!
It’s not a matter of we didn’t like the stairs but more of how to navigate them safely and successfully. This did not take long at all.

Lovely little cottage in the centre of Whitby, perfect for two of us.
Booking process with Host and Stay was appalling
Number of texts and emails ridiculous, asking for verification with non-existent links and charging a further damage waiver after booking. Felt held to random by this complicated process and extra expense. In twenty years of booking holiday cottages I have never come across this and certainly won't book with Host and Stay again.

A perfect little cottage to enjoy whilst you stuff yourself on fish & chips and enjoy the many pubs Whitby has to offer!
Just be careful if you are tall. You could end up bumping your head in the stairs, but overall a great place to stay!

This is a cosy little cottage with everything you need for a stay in whitby. The central location is perfect for getting to the local attractions and the property is snug with lots of history. We loved the decor and everything was clean and in great working order.
Parking was difficult and we had to park quite a walk away from the house. There was also some noise on one of the mornings from deliveries to a nearby hotel/bar.

Central to Whitby, cosy and comfortable. Beds comfortable, nice linen. Kitchen so well equipped, though we only used the kettle. Everything you need to cook a meal. Wi-Fi easily connected for your needs.
Just make sure you park on the W parking bays, it’s easily to make a mistake as the parking poles are close together. The parking discs are in the welcome pack.

The Decor was very nice.
The parking was a huge issue and not being able to find the property. Had to locate a parking space ( when we actually found the allocated streets) then had to carry heavy bags from the car to the property. No outdoor space to enjoy, no privacy as the back of the Estate Agents office with people sat at desks were facing us directly when we left the property or stood outside, lots of noise with people talking/shouting in the courtyard/ dragging bins, etc.. could here all this clearly as the windows aren't double glazed. The stairs were slippery ( wooden floor) and very narrow to get to the upstairs rooms...no door on the twin bedroom either as it's a loft space.

Lovely cottage super near to high street. Slight issue with finding car park but that's just an issue within Whitby, and we were generously provided a discount card for W. Do make sure to park correctly, otherwise tickets may happen! Easy to stop near the cottage and load off luggage before going off to find parking. Instructions clearly provided, do read through before visiting so familiar with what needs to be done if you're driving.

A very good experience! 😃😃The room was clean and tidy and very well stocked with cutlery! I stayed with my friends and felt the room decor was very cosy too. My only regret is that I only stayed here for one night… Next time if I go to Whitby I'd still choose this place and stay for a few more days! BTW, the landlord was very welcoming and quick to respond to messages!

Modern decor with all amenities. Central location. Smart TV with WiFi was excellent. Complimentary tea and coffee facilities with small milk was appreciated.
Even though a good central location, at the weekend it was very noisy due to entertainment in surrounding bars. Stairs are quite narrow and steep - additional handrails would be safer. I didn’t find the front door locking very safe (no additional locks etc). It would be very cold if you stayed in the winter months. Outside courtyard grubby.

a good central location, good kitchen, good heating and WiFi, comfortable beds, nice bathroom
The hard wood floors, 2 x spiral staircases are not practical for a 2 yr old. I truly believe with no baby gate it really is not practical to stay there with a 2 yr old, the floors are extremely slippery for a small child and whilst I acknowledge other families will happily stay there for me it did not work. again, outside the remit of the owner of the cottage the pub nearby is ridiculously loud with live acts until midnight even on a Sunday and the parking permit scheme is really difficult especially when the loading bay is busy
there are a number of reviews mentioning the loudness of the pub and again whilst the response is nothing can be done it is right to make future bookers aware-it is something to really consider before booking.

Good points - very clean, nice sized bedrooms, nice bathroom, central location. Bad points - difficult to access with luggage and two young children - we knew there was no parking but didn’t realise we couldn’t even unload outside and then leave to find parking - you’d really struggle without two adults present. Small living area - you’d struggle for more than a few day’s with full capacity. Frontage a bit dirty and access is up an alley and past about ten bins. We had a good trip but wouldn’t stay again unless cost was a lot less!
