Felt like they were a bit mean with basic provisions.
Only 1 bin bag provided, family of 8 staying 4 days, preparing meals e. c. t 1 bin bag not enough.
No recycling facilities all rubbish goes in same wheelybin hence kitchen bin filled up quickly.
No dishcloth /sponge provided to wash pots, or wipe down surfaces/table or clean the hob with.
only 1 tea towel for family of 8 staying for 4 days. Dishwasher provided but some pots we needed to wash.
1 inch of washing up liquid provided, no hand soap or hand towel.
Supply of toilet rolls didn't last 5 minutes.
Property didn't look or smell very clean.
Very dusty in lounge, kitchen lights thick in dust, cobwebs. Dirty washing left on washer. No washing pods, just an empty tub!
Didn't expect for price we paid to have to go out buying bin bags, dishhcloths, toilet rolls, e. c. t

Lovely home, clean and well laid out. parking not ao good, permit provided although it was hidden in the draws and took some finding. parking with permit was the hard part as at the time you get to check in all parking in w zone is full and remained full for the weekend, had to park else where. the car park next to the house has very bad reviews in getting ticketed when paying online, so had to go further afield. other than the parking the house was perfect

Austen House at Whitby was a home from home stay. Everything that we needed, very spacious, lots of stairs! Grandad bagged the nearest bedroom! Beds were comfy. Gorgeous huge sash windows... we did struggle to have these open in the warm weather as the dog would have probably tried to jump out. We were really panicking over the parking but we got 2 spots straight outside the house. An amazing base to explore Whitby. A walk to Sandsend (or bus!) to visit The Hart pub is a must. As is The Stables just outside Whitby. Crabbing on the pier for the kids! Would definitely return.

for the price the house was amazing. I dont think the pictures of the kitchen/dining area do it enough justice. would 100% recommend staying here.

Central location & space & little touches like the welcome basket & all the games & jigsaws were much appreciated.
One of the showers was very slow to empty & some, but not many areas, could do with a more thorough clean.

Overall we had a great time staying at Austen House! It's really nice and spacious and a good location for being able to walk to lots of places around Whitby. Easy to check in with the keybox too.
Parking was a bit tricky on the day we arrived as it was a Saturday and streets quite busy, but most other days during the week we were able to park in the streets nearby using the permits or find some free parking a few streets away.

This is a beautifully appointed house. Lovely high ceilings and big windows. Furnishings very smart and comfy. The basement kitchen diner is a particularly charming room as it has a lot of light for a basement. There were 5 of us over the four bedrooms and we did not feel cramped or short on facilities.

A fantastic house, just a very short walk away from the shops, bars and restaurants of Whitby. Situated on a very quiet side road with parking right outside the front door it was a great place all round. The house itself is across 4 floors so be mindful of that with very young children or those with mobility issues. House well equipped and beds comfortable. Great that dogs are welcome too. Highly recommend.

Well presented and decorated property. Location good and well equipped.
Too many stairs for older people. Disappointing outside area, not clean. Socket not working in top bedroom. Clean enough but paper under bed and roll top bath. Keysafe was hidden by basement shutters open and could not lock it when leaving.

Austen House was a great place to stay. There were two families with 4 kids in total and it never felt cramped thanks to the abundance of space. Kitchen was excellent, living areas were a restful break, bedrooms were great sizes and the location was perfect for exploring all that Whitby has to offer.

A beautiful house within walking distance to all Whitby has to offer. It was super clean, with everything you would need for a few days away from home. Spacious rooms/kitchen, comfortable beds, three bathrooms, well equipped kitchen. A welcomed touch was the wine, milk and cookies on arrival. The parking permits were great as we literally parked outside the door. I would definitely recommend this place, although you need to be fairly fit as there are lots of stairs!

We loved the house, it was very tastefully decorated and extremely clean throughout. The living room is slightly different to the image in the photos, it has been redecorated since and looks great and even better than the photos. Each room was really well kept and the beds were very comfortable too. The bath in the top floor bathroom was really spacious and great for a relaxing bath. The kitchen was also really spacious, and we loved the big family table. We loved the location, it was only a couple of minutes walk to the shops and into the centre. A really lovely property, one of the nicest holiday rentals I have stayed in. It felt like a home with every detail thought out. The complimentary wine and biscuits were also really appreciated.. The company host and stay were also really responsive to any questions and I had and provided lots of information beforehand, with a link to a website with everything you need to know about the property, which I have never had before and it made it less stressful when locating the house. The free parking passes are also a great addition and again another great personal touch.
My only slight negative was the shower on the middle floor wasn't the most powerful, but it was fine for the duration of our stay. The house has lots of stairs which we were fine with, but just a note for people who may struggle with stairs. The house is an old three story property with a basement, which is typical in the centre of Whitby.

Great place to stay. Had a fab weekend.
The kitchen area is a great space for communal entertainment. The living room similarly is set up really well and 8 people can comfortably hang out together.
Few issues including a door that was coming away from its hinges and a towel that had some strange burn marks on it. But overall very high standard of quality and cleanliness.
Would stay here again.

We have stayed in and around Whitby at this time of year for the last few years, love the Christmas feel and it’s not too busy. This is the perfect location!!!! The house was cosy and had everything we needed for a fabulous stay. In fact this is the best equipped house we have stayed in. Would absolutely recommend, hopefully we will be back soon.

This house was a brilliant find for seven of us in a great location. The house was spotlessly clean, a welcome basket was in the kitchen on arrival. The decoration is very tastefully done and I could definitely live there.
If we come to Whitby again, I would have no qualms about booking.
Thank you.

We had a great stay in Austen House - the location is excellent, so central and lots of parking options nearby too. We had a great time on the beach, eating delicious brunch at Lush Cafe down the road, enjoying the views of the Abbey and making the most of the spacious kitchen/dining area and living room. Everything was comfortable, spacious and ideal for a long weekend with a group of friends.

The property is beautiful clean and comfortable and very spacious.
One of our guests were bare feet in the kitchen and stood on broken glass, we had only just arrived so it must not have been cleaned properly. Also a few cobwebs in the basement toilet with spiders in.

The property was very close to the centre of Whitby. The rooms were clean and tidy, with areas to relax. DVDs were provided and we relaxed later watching some vintage Fawlty Towers. The kitchen was also very nice, with plenty of space.
Parking wasn't easy and someone hit my car, whilst it was parked. Also, you have to pay a £250 deposit, which they hang on to for a month, which doesn't seem fair. Given they have your credit card number, they are able to take money for any damages. I suspect this simply makes their bank balance look good.

Lovely house in a central location with great views. Just be aware there's a lot of stairs. Lovely comfortable living room, massive kitchen with everything you could ask for. Only problem we has was the parking permit was downstairs in the kitchen where the coffee and tea were, would have been much better to leave it on the hall table. And I hope the dirty socks have been removed from the chest of drawers in the bedroom!! But would still stay there again.

The property was wonderful. The location was fantastic and this was one of the best properties we have ever stayed in when visiting Whitby. The house was beautifully decorated, with high levels of detail across all areas of the property. There are two pieces of advice that I wish I was aware of before we arrived: firstly if you are visiting in the peak of summer - parking is a nightmare. We had two cars (the house capacity is 8people, so this is not unusual) and we could not find any parking near the property and had to pay in a car park for the first 2 days. There is a public car park close by, however there was also no space in there. We requested a second parking permit, but had to pay additional for this. The other thing to mention is that this property is not completely ‘child-friendly’ there are a number of stairs which is very difficult with toddlers. My son is two and was obsessed with going up and down which made it stressful - this could be eliminated easily with stair-gates which I would definitely recommend.
However, apart from the parking and stair-gates - this was a perfect property and we will definitely stay again (when the children are a little older).

This house is wonderful for the larger group. The rooms are a great size. The proximity to the beach and esplanade is wonderful. It's only a few minutes walk to most shops and pubs/bars/restaurants. It is uphill on the way back home from the water though so bear that in mind. Our group of 4 adults and 3 teenagers loved it.
Communication with the hosts was easy and promptly answered and the amenities and little touches in the house make you feel welcome, cared for and comfortable.

Perfect location, within walking distance of the centre of town - but far enough away to not be disturbed. Spotlessly clean and everything you needed to stay for one night or 3 weeks. The beds were sooooo comfortable and the towels were soft and still looked brand new. All the furniture was high quality and the added extras like the dishwasher, TVs in all the bedrooms, sound system just made it even better. Communication with hosts was excellent - responses were within minutes of any queries/questions we had. Would definitely recommended staying here when in Whitby
Only one set of keys, there were 8 of us staying and we all wanted to go out at different times and come back at different times, we used the key lock, but its difficult to see at night, good job we had phones with torches.
No glasses in the bedrooms - it was a long walk down to the kitchen from the top floor in the middle of the night for a glass, however these are just suggestions - NOT complaints

- Also a jcloth to clean surfaces useful
- Only other thing - electric shower on middle floor only a dribble comes out

Really lovely house in a great location. Everything to do in Whitby in walking distance. Hard to park 2 cars near the house but permits left for us to use around the area is very helpful.
We took dogs that like many only like to do their business on grass. The house only has a small concrete yard so had to take them to a grassy area first and last thing on a night which was only a few metres from the house.
Perfect house for families!
