location perfect, clean, comfy beds.
shower room, needs ripping out and starting again. Although it's obviously cleaned, it is covered in mildew, the shower head isn't good either.

Superb location, right in centre of town, but up quiet alleyway.
Very cosy and warm. Lots of character.
Well equipped for a short stay.
Powerful hot shower, hairdryer, iron, plenty of pots and pans. Plenty storage in spacious bedrooms.
Lovely view from top bedroom.
Good WiFi.
Free parking permit.
Dog friendly.
Would definitely stay here again. Don't let the negatives put you off - they are not deal breakers and it's a lovely place.
Wish we had been given better instructions on how to find it. It is up a narrow alleyway, the gate of which had a sign on it which obscured the alleyways name sign. We ended up walking up and down flowergate until we found it. For info tho it is opposite Witness menswear, next to travel agents.
Parking in whitby is a bit of a nightmare, so don't expect to be able to park nearby. Parking permit is inside the property, for zones just a few streets away. It's just that you have to go into property first, so bear this in mind. I suggest pulling up outside and one of you quickly unloads bags and grabs the permit.
Only one tea towel, and no washing up liquid.
Other reviewers have mentioned the shower cubicle, which is an issue if you're tall, but it was manageable, you just have to crouch!
Mattress could do with upgrading.

The location is perfect for access to the center and local pubs and restaurants
The property instructions advised there was parking, but this is not so easy at all, the promised 'free parking' permit was not found at the property so we had to pay for parking in a local car park at 9.60 per day - about 5minutes walk from the property. It is not possible to easily park outside the property so everything has to be carried from the parking location. The free permit parking roads are not close either.

The cottage was in a good location, great view from the top bedroom,
The cottage could do with a refurb however it was adequate, the bathroom needs up grading, but it didn't spoil the holiday

The cottage is in a great location for the town, is comfortable and has all the necessary amenities. There are superb views from the top window and it is cosy and warm.
There was a strange smell going through the front and lingered on our clothes. The shower doesn't drain very well.

Location
Shower was full of mould which was due to neglect in cleaning I had to bleach the shower with neat bleach before we could use it and a large proportion of it came off .Cobwebs everywhere , fireplace thick with dust , fridge still had sour milk or cream residue in it and the plates hadn't been checked and had food reminders on them , broken glass left in the back of cupboard. The list goes on and on .I find it hard to believe that these cottages are vacated at 10 o'clock on the day of departure and they are not ready to accommodate the next tennent until 4 the same day , there is absolutely no explanation to the standard that this property is therefore handed over to the next new tennent in such a poor unsanitary state. The owner of this cottage needs to know the condition that it is rented out in and I personally would like to hear back from them

Great location. Parking was as expected in a seaside town, but the scratch card was a nice touch.
The cottage was surprisingly quiet and had all the facilities required for a short break.
The cottage could do with a little TLC. The shower was a little mouldy and the kitchen area could do with a good clean.

Ideal location and quiet at night. Nice decor. and outside sitting area.TV in every bedroom.
Some basic items were missing or insufficient like no washing up liquid or pad., half a blue cloth. Needed a bit more care in kitchen area.and cupboards. Shower too low .

Great location, really central. Liked that the cottages had a shared courtyard to sit out on with the dog as the weather was great.
Generally clean and the bedrooms were clean and tidy. I loved that we had a tv in the bedroom as well.
Nice to have constant hot water in the shower
Other people have raised this, just some bits to make the property feel loved. Please fix the shower head, it’s annoying having to hold the shower head yourself!
The rug in the front room is grubby and has a large pull that could be hazardous. Either remove it or cut the thread off!
Bedrooms were clean, however downstairs felt a bit grotty.
You need to replace the blind on the door.
If you have people staying for more then 2 nights, please supply more than 1 toilet roll.
Would have been great if there had been a better supply of tea coffee and sugar (maybe I was expecting too much, but 4 teabags and 4 coffees for 4 adults staying for four nights does seem a tad stingy!)
I understand it’s just a cottage let, little improvements can make this become a little gem.
We loved Whitby, it’s a beautiful place with great people.

Fabulous location in the heart of Whitby
Afraid the shower was very poor, if you are over 5 foot 7 you simply can’t shower as the tray is too high and the roof too low, our 6 foot 2 son didn’t stand a chance! Whilst in the shower (holding the shower head as you can’t get it over your head) you then have no. Shelves or anywhere to put shampoo etc. Could be rectified by turning it into a wet room. Also thought it was rather a cheek that we had to pay a £250 deposit which you don’t get back for 2 weeks and a £10 admin charge is taken off to add insult to injury! I have no problem paying a deposit but surely it should be refunded immediately after the property is inspected.

Good Stay…good location and cute home. It was basic in terms of additional homely extras, felt more like a hotel instead of the special extras you’d typically get at air b and b, welcome book, welcome extras and flexibility. I wouldnt jump at staying here again, location was good however you can’t park close by really and street parking is tight streets. The price paid was decent and good that it was dog friendly.

Love this cottage there is nothing not to like about the place itself
We arrived at the cottage to find that we could not have the key number until we put down a £250 insurance deposit and told we would then get £240 back if the property was undamaged! We were forced basically to their insurance and they refused to accept our own insurance. We have stayed at this cottage and wuth this company many times over the years and this charge is complete day light robbery not to mention taking 2 weeks to get £240 back !! Host and stay will not be getting any more bookings from me thats for certain its an absolute scam to charge those fees .

The property was in an excellent position. Directions were easy to follow. Quiet yet in the centre of Whitby. Property could do with some TLC. The TV is a little outdated with a digital box. Would have preferred to be able to stream TV apps like Netflix, Amazon Etc. We visited as a couple with a dog. The size downstairs is small. I struggle to see how you could fit four people comfortably of an evening. We enjoyed our visit to Whitby.

Brilliant location, right in the heart of Whitby, only thing missing - a sea view. The cottage was quirky, with bags of character. Comfy beds, and a warm property, as we came for the Christmas market.
We can't really fault the property. If anything, a little small, so if you're a bigger person, might be a bit of a squeeze, especially in the main bedroom.

Beautiful little cottage right in the heart of Whitby, slightly fishy smell on arrival but assume previous guests had been cooking and couldn't air the place. TV in top room didn't work for kids and not much help from support on that front. Also wasn't a fan of the additional deposit or fee for damage, the process was a faff and the idea of it doesn't sit well with me. but overall a good stay.

We had a good stay overall however unfortunately there was a leak in the roof the first night we stayed there that kept us up all night. We provided photos for evidence to Host and Stay who said they’d visit the next day to resolve and get their maintenance to check it out to ensure it doesn’t happen again. They told us to inform them when we were out for this and when we returned there had been no visit. I followed up on message and they said they’d follow this up and let me know asap but then they promptly sent a check out details email instead. I felt I’d been very patient and considerate even though it had kept us all awake including my elderly grandmother, but this side of the experience was unfortunately not great. Otherwise all else went well, I’d just ask Host and Stay to stick to their promises to visit and resolve any issues their guests have and have better communication around this.

Lovely stay in Whitby. Unfortunately parking wasn’t easy even with parking permits, there wasn’t any very close parking spaces, had to walk roughly 10-15 mins there. Also the tv had a freeview box , we tried all evening to get it to work even got a neighbour in to try and he was too unsuccessful. I think there should be instructions to work it , as not everyone has that in their home. Other than that we had a pleasant stay.

Amber Cottage was exactly as it looked in the photos! A cosy seaside nook right in the heart of all the action! We arrived and it was super clean and welcoming with everything we needed for our stay all ready and waiting! The location was better than expected and the parking was no problem at all! Our little boy thoroughly enjoyed his den up stairs and spying on the abbey every night to search for Dracula haha! Our wee dog also found a few comfy spots to rest after our days out exploring! I would definitely recommend this property and give it 10/10!

Very Quaint and lovely cottage set back from the road down a quiet ginnel which made it very quiet at night. Great view of Whitby Abbey from the top floor
Not a lot wrong with the property to be fair. Not overly important but worth mentioning though
- Curtains would be ideal in the bedrooms, the blinds don’t really keep the sun out so we were awake at sunrise which was around half 4
- a 4pm check in is too late 2pm would be better. We arrived from blackpool around half one and had to put our car in a car park with all our stuff in till 4 so we wandered round a bit aimlessly till it was time. 2pm would be a lot better so people could get on with their break. Other than that we would book again.

Amber cottage is beautiful, central, and even better than we had anticipated. Bedrooms are larger than they appear in the pictures. The location is perfect, and perfectly sweet (little alley/courtyard). The hosts were very proactive in sharing information about the cottage and location and there is even a fabulous app for the cottage. Every query I had ahead of the trip was responded to almost instantly - perfect hosts. We will be recommending to anyone who is planning a stay in Whitby.

A fantastic stay at Amber Cottage with my mam and dog, Ralph. The cottage was extremely clean and had everything we needed for a few days. The location was very central and everything was in walking distance.
Only con was finding the cottage when we first arrived, we were walking around for about half an hour trying to find it. It’s tucked down a little alleyway, maybe some signage outside the gate would be helpful.
Nevertheless we had a lovely stay and will definitely return.

We loved Amber Cottage. It's beautifully decorated and very comfortable to stay in. The kitchen was stocked with what we needed, even a coffee machine which was appreciated. The bedrooms were stylish and comfortable. There was a great shower. There was even a view of the Abbey from the top bedroom. We enjoyed sitting outside for breakfast. Its a great location and has some lovely shops, bars and cafes and is easily accessible for the abbey and harbour. Would love to return to it and would recommend.

We had the best stay !!
Cottage perfect, it had everything we needed and beautifully decorated, the top floor bedroom was beautiful
I wanted to swap with the children.
The location was amazing right in the town and walking distance to everything, but tucked down a side alley way so still lovely and quiet. We loved Whitby and I would deff recommend Amber cottage !
A few minor things •the parking, I do understand Whitby is not great for parking but we did find it difficult to find a space ( it was a bank holiday) thankfully we did not need to move the car apart from one day we went exploring. • kitchen is a little on a the small side if your planning on doing a lot of cooking, my advice is eat out as your spoilt for choice was all the restaurants near by 🤣 • the cottage was lovely and tidy apart from in need of a good hoover and dust, windows sills upstairs floors and pictures very dusty. •

My girlfriend and I had a lovely weekend in Whitby at Amber Cottage. The cottage was very charming, exactly as advertised, spotlessly clean and with all the facilities we needed. Sadly we didn't bring our children as they'd have loved the top floor bedroom with views over to the Abbey, but in any case, we thoroughly enjoyed it, as did our dog, Millie. The cottage is in a great location - central but quiet and private. Would definitely recommend and would return. Host was helpful and communicative.

Firstly Amber Cottage was a nice place to stay in Whitby, in a nice location. This was spoilt however by the communication and demands for identity verification and additional security deposits of the management company Host & Stay. They forced us to additionally secure the booking with a credit card, on an external website which explicitly contravenes the policy of AirBnB at https://www.airbnb.co.uk/help/article/209 which says "customers lose protection if i communicate outside Airbnb". This was combined with multiple automated marketing messages that were not beneficial or personal. I didn't have a choice on this occasion but i would not recommend booking anywhere managed through Host and Stay in future.

HostAndStay, will charge you more than the advertised price by asking for an damage deposit (which is fine) and then charging you a handling fee for taking your money.
I've come to expect this sort of treatment from car hire companies but never on AirBnB.
I wish that I had read the reviews on external websites before I booked with them.

Lovely comfortable warm cottage in a great location. The cottage was generally clean and nicely decorated, with clean crisp white linen and soft white towels. The kitchen area is very compact and not ideal if you want to do a lot of cooking for a family but adequate, no dishwasher or washing machine. The single beds on the photos look quite narrow but in fact they are full size singles and we slept two adults in them very comfortably, lovely view of the Abbey from the top room. Both rooms good sizes. Knocked a star off cleanliness because the downstairs floor was gritty when we arrived and there were some remnants of dried food around the kitchen bin. We also had an issue with a second parking scratchcard which we had paid for in advance but was not at the property when we arrived. That was satisfactorily resolved and we found the communication with Host and Stay excellent throughout. All in all a great stay. We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it.

A really lovely clean and cosy cottage in an absolutely fantastic location.
Check in was super easy.
Please be aware that finding a parking space even when you have the parking vouchers from the property, can be tricky- we ended up parking a ten minute walk away as it was the only space we could get at prime check in time on a Friday! Not a huge issue for us, but if you have mobility issues/small children just take note!
The only issues we faced were that the Wifi wasn’t working the entire stay, and we couldn’t work out how to fix/re-set it. Also the shower needs some serious attention as the water pressure and temperature is completely erratic, and makes a REALLY LOUD banging and screeching noise- we have however flagged these to the management company so they get fixed asap.

Some clearer instruction before arrival on the parking situation and how to manage this in Whitby.

This was a self catering property so the porridge for breakfast was the same as I make at home. The kitchen was very well equipped but I didn't do any other cooking. There were some lovely touches in the decor to make Amber Cottage a real seaside retreat. It is tucked away up a typical Whitby alleyway, but very close to the harbour and the shops and eating places.
My friend who was supposed to be coming with me got Covid, so couldn't come after all. It was too late for us to cancel the booking so I went anyway on my own. It was a shame not to use the cottage to better effect, especially the upstairs bedroom, with its lovely views, which wasn't used in the end. Someone is carrying out a major building project at the far end of the Yard, and whilst the workers were very pleasant and courteous it was a bit noisy and disruptive. A paving slab outside No 3 had been broken and although they replaced it, the surface was still very uneven and rather dangerous. They said it would all be dug up anyway to install a power supply. The boiler made some peculiar noises, which seemed to be the pump coming on a lot even though the heating was not on, which kept me awake at night as it was in a cupboard on the landing outside the bedroom. Having a parking permit was very helpful but most visitors to Whitby seem to get them and it is not easy to find anywhere to park near to the cottage. I had to walk quite a long way to and from the car and as I am getting on a bit I was only able to take a small amount of my luggage to the cottage as it was too far to carry any more of it.

Location was amazing
It was clean and warm.
The shower was painfully noisy and uncomfortable to use.
Toaster tripped the electrics.
No tea towels or cloths to help keep tidy and oven gloves would have a bonus! Bedding although clean was stained with old blood.

Great location.Lovely Comfortable beds.Lovely view from top window.Freedom to come and go.
No curtains in the bedrooms so light coming in.Couldnt use free parking pass as all the near W areas where you can park with them were full and drove around a lot.Ended up in a paying car park.Stuggled to lock the key back into box outside.

Nice cottage - great location and well equipped. Quite a narrow entrance with steps - we managed to get our pram through but a bit of a tight squeeze!

Very nice place to stay, clean, tidy, great location and has everything you would need for a short stay in and around Whitby. The on street parking is a short walk away but it’s easy enough to stop nearby to drop off or pick up your bags. Would definitely stay here again, it was perfect.

A lovely cottage in the middle of Whitby, minutes away from the harbour and the beach.
Will say that it was a nightmare to find, ended up driving round Whitby several times trying to find it. It’s down an alleyway in between shops so not obvious. Would be helpful to have a photo of the outside and where to look for.
Also there is no parking, we were given a scratch card parking ticket which lasts two days for areas that were about half a mile away from the cottage which wasn’t ideal. So keep in mind your car won’t be anywhere near the cottage.
On arrival it was nice and presentable however for 150 pounds a night I would expect the bins to work, cobwebs to have been gotten rid of and the grill to have been cleaned, it was covered in dried fat.
Both bedrooms were really beautiful especially the twin room with views of the Abbey.
The lounge was really cosy and beautifully decorated and furnished.
Dog owners be aware there is no garden for night time wee wees.
We would 100% return however all things considered we feel the price needs to be lowered.

This cottage is an excellent place to stay, clean, spacious and it’s great that it allows dogs.
Shops, bars and restaurants only a very short walk away. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends. Had a lovely four night stay at Amber Cottage. Thank you 😊

Enjoyed the great central location of the property and all of us (but especially the dog) loved the fireplace when it got cold. Few niggly bits need fixing up but overall it was good.

Perfect location for a 2 min walk to the harbour, 10 mins to the steps of the Abbey and 5 mins from the West Cliff.
Really comfy, practical and stylish space. Would book with Stay again.

We had a wonderful time at Amber Cottage. It is brilliantly located and I loved the fact you could see the Abbey from the children’s bedroom.
The sea side theme is lovely and although the cottage is compact, it had all the amenities we needed for our beach mini break. Thank you

Amber cottage is a hidden gem. We are a family with two young children and the cottage was perfect for us. There are two steps on access to the yard so bear that in mind if you have a pushchair. We managed fine with ours.
It’s a fantastic location, clean, fresh and welcoming. Ample facilities to cook at the cottage, not a lot of free cupboard storage space in the kitchen. We loved this place and will certainly look to return.

Overallthe cottage is nice and was clean with well equipped kitchen. Bed was comfy and linen / towels nice. However there were a few issues which the Stay team did their best to resolve; on there own they are small but when added up really made me feel the Stay team don't have a great team that sits behind the property and / or are not particularly focused on customer satisfaction (I add this is probably the only less than positive review I've don on AirBnB):
- welcome information / instructions not provided prior to arrival (e.g. no note on where to park etc) so had to call on arrival
- property smelt damp when I arrived so went to get a scented candle to get rid of small (possibly related to point below on heating)
- heating not on when arrived - property was 14 degrees
- boiler not set up correctly so that even after 3.5 hours of heating (once I turned it on) the temperature only rose to 17 degrees so had to call a couple of times to find out how to fix (had to change settings on boiler)
- the fire in the living room doesn't work or Ben (maintenence / Stay rep) said it was just for show (not sure if this is mentioned in the property description)
- the remotes for the TV are old and several buttons don't work so you have to use both old sky TV remotes to actually work the TV.
The Stay team did communicate well and were responsive when I raised these issues. I offered them a chance to resolve and had I been managing the property would have probably offered some kind of discount due to the number of issues. They did however apologise and say it will be put right for future guests. I won't be staying with Stay again unfortunately.

We had a lovely stay in Amber Cottage. It is in a great location tucked down a side alley between shops so it’s nice and quiet and there are no people walking past the house. It is 7 mins walk from the beach and situated in the centre of the town. The house was nice and clean and decorated very nicely. The downstairs was a little smaller than we expected so was only just big enough for 4 to move around comfortably. Also, the shower doesn’t quite have enough head room, if you are 6 foot then you will need to duck a little!

Amber Cottage was delightful! A perfect location in the heart of Whitby, yet really quiet and tucked away. This is a really nice cottage in an excellent location. Just a few doors up Flowergate from the famous Sherlock’s Coffee House and Emma’s Diner the location is awesome.
The house itself will easily support 4 people but no more. It’s split over 3 levels so if stairs aren’t your thing look elsewhere.
We will be back to this very cottage at some point. It really is excellent.
