The location was good, the property was well appointed. Knowing the area helped.
There were two safety hazards on the entry staircase. On the right hand side, on the third step up, the carpet was coming away and could have resulted in an accident. At the top of the final set of stairs, the last step was considerably higher than the others, and resulted in my partner tripping and falling. This could have had bad consequences as he is due to have surgery on his knee n two weeks and had he broken the skin on his knee or really hurt himself the surgeon would not have gone ahead with the surgery. Not a good thing to happen when you're in pain and need the surgery.

Quite a central location in Whitby. Just out the main town centre. Dog friendly. Cleaning products supplied. Few minute walk to a grassy area for the dog next to the water. 5 to 10 min walk from the train station to the flat. You can see the Abbey from livingroom window. Bakery over the road was lush!
The street is very dark and could do with some lighting. maybe a security light or a light outside that operated from inside the house.
we couldn't get the central heating to kick in so was a little cold at night, single glazing. Windows could do with a clean on the outside. WiFi wasn't great... not the be all and end all. Hallway lights are automatic and take too long to go off. Not great if you get up in the middle of the night as they are blinding

Lovely decor, the owners have put a lot of thought into the furnishings and style of the apartment. Great location too. It’s a shame that the Host & Stay team have let them down with the cleanliness and maintenance of the property. I’m sure the owners pay for this service and I would recommend that they discuss this with them.
The heating didn’t work and the windows had been left open so it was very cold. We were only staying two nights and we tried to get this fixed but were unsuccessful as as we were already out for the day with the keys when we were asked to leave them in the lockbox for maintenance to use. The thermostat wouldn’t work so be aware of this if you are staying. I’ve already mentioned the cleanliness, the photos show just some of the concerns. Dog, human hair and dust on all the surfaces and floor, pubic hairs stuck on the toilet and in the shower tray . I added some of the photos, I’ve left the photo of the urine stained mattress off this review, it was too disgusting to subject anyone else to. We were told that we should have raised this during our stay, it was only a two night stay and until I saw the mattress as I was stripping the bed to leave, we could manage for the short stay! Keeping in mind how the heating couldn’t be sorted out, we chose to ignore the cleanliness so we could enjoy our short break.

Nice little property in a central location
Key was bent and couldn’t get in rang the number listed for help, no reply left message, no reply. Had the key straightened and it worked. No parking card available anywhere in the apartment. Again sent a message, rang and no reply, therefore had to park and pay about a 10 minute walk away.
Once in there were some items of crockery less than clean.
Disappointing that there was absolutely no help with the issues that we encountered. Concerned that the key was going to snap in the lock and we not be able to get in

The location was perfect. The bed was super comfy. The shower was great. Facilities in the kitchen area were good. They've thought of everything. The location is great as it is close to the main street, but far enough back that we were not disturbed at night. It was so very quiet. We will definitely be back, and I'd happily recommend to friends and family

We had a wonderful stay at Abbey Nook. The location was perfect just a short walk up the hill (but it is a steep hill!!) we stopped at a pub halfway up to recover!!
The apartment was stunning, we could easily live there. It was spotless, modern and spacious. Very well catered for dogs too.
Bed was comfy and shower was amazing!
Only thing I would mention is that we did not get informed about a damage waiver when booking and this was sent in an email the week before. I feel this needs to be better communicated at the point of booking.
We will 100% be back at Abbey Nook, we had a wonderful stay!

Location perfect. A comfortable and bright flat.
Later than average access, earlier than average vacate time, not flexible, guess because of number of properties. Contact not personally tailored and staff didn't answer email re parking.

Overall stay at Abbey Nook was good. The location was brilliant with everything close-by and walkable, modern interior and decor, it was easy to find and check-in was simple and easy. (The key wasn’t in great condition so stiff to get in). Got a few reminders on check out time via email and text which seemed OTT.
I would say that there was a couple of negatives which I need to mention hence reduction in rating.
The first, the damage waiver. This came as a surprise a week before check in and had to be paid before you can get check-in instructions. Whilst not a huge amount of money, it’s the only time I’ve had to pay anything like this and it is not at any point mentioned until you get the email.
The second, overall the property was not really clean. There’s a relatively high price for cleaning fees when booking, however upon arrival quite a lot of the property was dusty in most of the rooms.

Modern,.clean, funky flat in ideal location.
When I booked, a parking permit for zone W was included as part of the accommodation offering. However on arrival this wasn't the case. It meant we had to pay an additional £10.80 per day for parking and had to keep going back to the car park to renew this each day.

Great location and property fitted out nicely. There were some areas that could be improved however. The entrance had quite a few weeds around and the door key was very stiff to insert/remove. The entrance stair carpet was very grubby and a bit smelly but that didnt carry on into the property. The inside appeared at first to be clean but there was lots of dust on artificial plants and the living room window frame. The windows themselves were also very dirty. Some extras that would be nice include a soap dish/dispenser in the bathroom and some more clothes storage. We really enjoyed it and just a little attention to detail is what we'd recommend.

Gorgeous little flat.
Exceptionally clean & comfortable.
Great location.
Bed was so comfortable.
Very well equipped kitchen & amazing shower.
The carpet on the stairs leading up to the flat was loose in parts. Which made us feel unsteady going up & down.

I’m splitting this review into two sections; one for the actual property, and one for the management company.
The property itself was lovely. It was exactly as per the photos, with modern tasteful decor throughout. The location was fantastic, easily walkable to all the main attractions in Whitby.
Secondly, we had a terrible experience with the management company. The cleaning fee was 52% of the cost of the stay itself, which for one night is unscrupulous. Also, we were subjected to hidden charges, which I’ve never experienced before. We had to pay to receive the check-in instructions by paying a damage-waiver. Even after paying, the instructions were not sent quickly. Also, we were hassled throughout our stay via Airbnb message to remind us to check out on time.
Overall, we had a lovely time in Whitby, however the management company needs to make their pricing structure fairer and more transparent before booking.

Very convenient location in the centre of Whitby and decorated beautifully. Was very clean on arrival and had great communication throughout. Only negative was that even though I was staying for two nights and there were two of us we were only left two coffee pods and two tea bags which given I was staying for my birthday seemed a little tight!

Abbey Nook is a well situated and lovely airbnb. We stayed here for two days and the only qualm we had was the carpet on the stairs leading up to the main apartment not being stapled in certain areas which proved to be somewhat of a tripping hazard. Overall the place was generally tidy and well equipped, with all the amenities necessary for a short trip. We had a lovely time and would recommend!

Ridiculous service from Host & Stay, plus a smelly dirty apartment to be welcomed into.
Told the booking included on street parking, to arrive and everywhere be permit holders only. Permit left in the room, but you only find that out after paying to park. Unfortunately I am not a mind reader, and as not told about this first, I wasn't expecting to find it there.
Carpet was covered in stains and stunk of dog, and was coming away on multiple steps which was extremely dangerous. Living room blinds were broken, so I couldn't open them, although after seeing how mucky the windows were it may have been for the best!!
PHONED HOST & STAY TO MAKE A COMPLAINT - WAS SENT A LINK TO A COMPLAINT FORM WHICH CONVENIENTLY DOESNT WORK

great location, nice flat with everything we needed for a couple of nights' stay. Bathroom was great and kitchen was nice with coffee machine, microwave, dishwasher etc
Entrance hall was not clean on arrival, sweet wrappers and other bits on the floor - looked like it hadn't been cleaned. Carpet on the stairs up to the flat was loose and great care was needed to get up and down without slipping

The location was perfect, just a short walk to the heart of the pier with all the shops and beach etc. Having our own little place to our self rather than a room was very nice. It's a stunning little place with all the facilities to cook and have some more freedom that a hotel wouldn't give you.
There wasn't much we didn't like however the heating was abit unpredictable. One moment it stayed very cold, the next really nice and warm. We also didn't like that there was so little facilities like toilet rolls (1 was given), and nothing really to clean the sides up incase a mess was made. To be fair we only stayed 3 nights but it was a little annoying to go to the shop and get extras to make sure we left the place looking good again etc. Finally the flat upstairs could be quite noisy at times. Have no idea what they was moving at 11 at night but it was very loud. Not this hotels fault at all but just something to be aware off.

Location was fantastic! The apartment was well-equipped and the TV facilities were really good. The shower is incredible too. Parking was fine and the parking scratch was fantastic (thank you).

Fresh modern and simple .great location
There must have been some work going on in the property so there were bits of sawdust
.There are a few knocks and marks around the apartment that just need a little attention after every customer to keep it fresh and to standard ( the surround had fallen off the ceiling spotlight in the bedroom ,the bedside lamp was built wrong- we put both of these right / there was a chunk of the kitchen island knocked off near the floor / stair carpet dirty / needs a shower slip mat / needs a solar entry night outside front door as it was dark coming in alone ) .It would be a real shame if it slipped as it's so lovely and we would definitely recommend it

We liked the location. And Whitby is beautiful. This was our first stay so enjoyed our time there.
We didn't like the scaffolding right outside the windows to the living area of the apartment so that was our lovely view for our stay. Very noisy with people coming and going in the adjoining apartments. The room had been cleaned as such but things like the side lamps and the kitchen island had dust on them. Blinds had water stains on them.

Location fab and flat really well appointed. Good facilities such as excellent shower, Tv, etc.
There’s only one reason we wouldn’t use this property again, but it’s an important one - the bed. Too small, unsupportive. Did not give you a good night’s sleep. It’s a shame as rest of property is excellent.

Great location in Whitby. Tidy and well equipped.
Filthy kitchen bin. Holes in bedsheet. Dusty in places. Felt very unsafe only having one key to door in this property. If one person did not chose to leave to property they had to either be locked in or the door (down some stairs) left unlocked.

The apartment was great, very clean and a great location.
The communication from the host was really good as well.
The only issue was some air bnb’s have a welcome pack and there was nothing here.
However that didn’t bother me as it was so close to all amenities I didn’t want to stay in and cook and eat

Location
Modern decor although some areas need a bit of TLC
Good space
The lights at the stairs and landing work through sensors - found them quite annoying. Would be good if one can decide when to turn them on/off.
No flexibilities with check in/check out time. Check in at 4pm and out at 10am are quite harsh I felt. First time staying in a place where the host didn’t allow some flexibilities.
A LOT of email communications and all felt commercial. A lot of the times it felt like “the computer says no”.
Additional insurance waivers/deposits requested not via bookings.com. I felt these should have been incorporated with the booking.com fee so you can make a fair comparison against other properties.

location is ideal, local to bars, shops, sea front etc....parking is always an issue in Whitby, but parking tokens were supplied for the whole 10 days and wasnt a problem
What we didnt like was the bed,it is way too small and very soft, for the price we paid i would expect far better...also fire doors throughout is agood idea but the fact that they are spring loaded is areal pain and not really necessary in my view. Also with a stay of 10 days i would have expected a change of bed linen and towels to be supplied, but not in this case. Frankly disappointing....overall decor is nice but looking alittle tired, this is my honest opinion

Stayed here for one night as I needed a base for the evening as I had business locally. Beautifully decorated apartment and very well equipped, but sadly the smell (particularly in the bedroom) tainted this.
Was a kind of fusty/damp smell very overpowering and it actually disturbed my sleep. It is a shame as if it wasn’t for this I would consider it a lovely place to stay. Comfy bed, lovely kitchen, overall very cosy. I did think it looked quite dusty in some areas so think the cleaning standards could be improved.
I’m not sure what the cause of the smell is but perhaps even reed diffusers and plug in fragrance would help!? If this could be rectified I would then considering returning.
Had I been staying longer I would have been in touch about the issue but it seemed pointless at the time considering I was just using the flat to get some rest.

Stylish apartment in a great location. Easy walking distance to all of the best parts of Whitby.
Just lacked some of the personal touches we’ve come to expect from other Air B&B experiences -
No coffee pods provided, no hand soap in kitchen and only one milk sachet. Damage insurance/waiver feels like a hidden charge and communications had a very commercial feel.
Despite the above our stay was comfortable and the apartment was a great base from which to explore and enjoy Whitby.

The property is clean, compact but has everything that one needs to relax in comfort during their stay in Whitby. Very Feng Shui and had a good vibe about the place.

Great location
Unable to park car within view of property and difficult to unpack unless you have someone to stay in the car. The traffic wardens are giving out parking tickets at all hours!
Cleaning standards. Toilet not cleaned and still soiled. Bathroom sink very slow to drain therefore used as little as possible. Floors did not appear well hoovered or mopped.
Floor to ceiling window in lounge and automatic light in the hall means that we were always in view of the man on his computer across the road. As reported by innumerable reviewers, this window needs some kind of privacy screening (e.g. shutters, voile, curtains)

A truly amazing apartment with a great location . very modern spacious and felt like it was brand new
the bay window is an issue for privacy . as there wasn’t a blind or curtains you could see right into the apartment opposite and vice Versa . this would be the only reason as why I wouldn’t stay again . it’s a real shame as this is a truly stunning apartment . bit to many emails as well . must have had 20+ for a simple booking

Lovely apartment. Really clean and comfortable. Easily walkable to the main areas. Only thing as others mentioned is the lack of curtains on the front window - can be a bit noisy with traffic and feel a bit cold. But I’m very happy as my 19 month old went straight to sleep both nights as if he were at home - so can’t complain 😅 thank you!

good location, fairly quiet, well equipped kitchen, good sized TV, parking permits work well as long as you understand the restrictions,
As mentioned in numerous reviews, didn’t like the light on the stairs and landing being on a sensor, slightly worrying when you wake up at 2am and the light is on even though you’re both in bed! Also no curtains in the lounge make it very cold and not good for privacy when you go to make a cup of tea in the morning. Both of these issues have been raised in previous reviews since Sept 2022 and nothing has changed.

Absolutely brilliant location in Whitby, well decorated with a very bright living area. Was very central and the local cafes & pub were excellent.
Will say that the pans did not work on the induction hob which was quite annoying (pans were not compatible with hob) but if you’re eating out on your trip then this isn’t an issue! Also, there are no blinds or curtains on the large living room window so is very open on an evening.
We arrived a little early and messaged to ask if we could check in earlier and they responded swiftly saying we could which was great!
Very cosy and overall a good trip!

great location, clean and had everything we needed. Great that it is dog friendly and as the front door was only for us, we could leave dog towel and walking boots there.
As mentioned in other guests comments - whilst decor is very stylish definitely requires curtains in the living room as it is like sitting in a gold fish bowl not to mention the heat loss from such large windows. Landing light is v annoying far too bright and stays on too long - needs a switch!
Don’t like the £250 bond required as you have our contact details, card info anyway if there were any issues - no need for the money to be taken even tho it was refunded after a week.

This flat is the perfect base for a weekend in Whitby and the surrounding coast.
Beautifully modern and decorated, it was a treat to stay here. It was like staying in a show home!
The parking was a little tricky, in that I left the car a 5 min walk away. I usually like to be able to see my car especially at night but it felt safe on the side roads.
Highly recommend for a couples getaway

There was a lack of attention to detail. The oven was displaying an error message therefore did not work, although host & stay responded quickly they could only provide an incorrect web link to resolve. I had to find the fix for myself online.
The batteries in the tv remote had run out so we had to buy replacement.
The big bay window in the lounge did not have any curtains or blind this made the room very cold when the rest of the apartment was very warm. Also didn’t feel cosy. Only a 2 day parking permit was left and our stay was for 3, host & stay again responded quickly but did not action the request for a further permit to be provided. We have stayed in Whitby many times and this was the first place that did not provide a welcome pack of some description. The apartment was clean (although a strange smell on the stairs) and in a good location. Overall quite impersonal & things could be improved.

location and everything needed
the automatic light that turns on and off seems on wmfor ages so flows through bedroom door , and as noticed from previous reviews some sort of shutter or curtains would be better in living area as still feel exposed on an evening not east to relax … owners should really listen to people staying at their property x but on the whole lovely place well equipped

Great location, very clean and well equipped.
Really needs some blinds in the living room! Also the automatic hall lights were a bit of a shock to the system when getting up in the middle of the night!

Loved our stay, but unsure of either extortionate insurance charges or choosing to deposit £250 with a £10 non refundable admin charge. First place we have stayed where there was no welcome pack.

Brilliant flat in Whitby town Center
Accommodation was clean and comfortable and only a short walk from the Centre of Whitby. Very stylish decor with easy access upon arrival.
Flat is up a flight of stairs but this didn’t bother us. Fantastic quiet location of an evening with bars and cafe just down the road would definitely recommend for couples and pet friendly too!

Beautiful well appointed flat, all modern fittings and appliances. Fantastic location on a little high street with cute shops and restaurants very close-by. Comfy seating and nice decor. Great shower, bed slightly soft for my taste - but otherwise can't fault the flat itself. Gorgeous bay window overlooking the street below.
The parking was a little tricky. When you arrive you should find a spot on the street to unload from (not possible to pull up right outside, as the side street is narrow, but you should find a space close), but then you have to move the car to surrounding streets in parking zone W where the scratch card permit is valid for, as the street right outside is a different zone. I suggest arriving earlier in the day as all surrounding "zone W" streets were full after 7:30pm. Maybe not the easiest if you have lots of heavy bags, or poor mobility.

An excellent stay right in the heart of Whitby. Comfortable bed and amazing pressure in the shower. The apartment is well equipped with all the cooking utensils you need. Host and Stay were great to communicate and resolved any issues we had. Would highly recommend.

Perfect little self contained flat close to everything you would want.
Watch out though that the host will hold your £250 "deposit" (actually a charge) for a full *14* days after checking out even if there are no issues. If you thought, like me, that you could just cover it temporarily on your credit card this could cause you additional charges from the card company.
Host communication was prompt but curt and did not always fully answer the question.

The location was great, and the property was lovely, modern and clean. Just what we were looking for!
The only thing I would change about the property was the lack of curtains in the living area. I would’ve liked to close them for privacy when we were watching tv in the evening.
The only other thing I would mention was the excess of emails I received prior to the trip. They were a little bit overwhelming and I found that I missed a couple of things as they were buried in the emails. Otherwise very good :)

Lovely, clean and homely apartment. Great location .everything you needed was available .
Shower was really nice ,overall great apartment.
Parking was a bit annoying had to drive around for a long time and ended up paying in the car park even though we had a scratch car .., did manage to park on the second day luckily.
Also I think blinds or curtains in front windows would of been nice .

Loved the location and key box, the kitchen living area was such a bonus, with dishwasher and washing machine, would definitely return. Perfect for our dogs first holiday!! Loved the extra added touches of tea towel, dishwashing tablets, washing up liquid and a little bottle of milk for the tea and coffee. All extra little bits that definitely make the difference!
The windows in the main living room were sash style so a concern with having the dog, with it being so warm and that being the only window in the main living room, it would be good to have some sort of net to put over it as a precaution/something a guest could fit if they wanted to, e.g baby gate. Also the parking restrictions are a bit of a pain as you only get two days. Other than that could not fault it, amazing little gem of a flat.

A lovely apartment & great location, head to the jet black jewel for breakfast you won’t be disappointed!
air con would have been ideal though as the kitchen / lounge was like a green house in the hot weather it was unbearable to sit in there also there were only 3 tea bags so bring your own but there was plenty of coffee . Bedroom was nice and cool, they provided a travel cot for our little girl which was helpful. Parking should be advertised clearer I assumed it was on site but it’s a permit for zones so we had a nightmare finding a spot.
All in all It’s a lovely property in Whitby just could have been a touch cleaner on the floors & clearer about parking on listing x

Stunning apartment in a fantastic location. Beautifully styled, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. Super comfy bed, spacious shower and well equipped kitchen. The open plan living space is well designed and feels really spacious for a 1 bed apartment. So happy it was dog friendly too. We absolutely loved our stay at Abbey Nook and will definitely be back soon!

The location was central to all shops and in the hub of it all. The apartment was modern, contemporary and catered to our needs.
Only thing I would say ... the floor to ceiling window... as beautiful as it was.. the morning sun was stunning.. there is no privacy. I would suggest bifold white wooden venetian shutters.. it would be inkeeping with the contemporary look and add a very much needed bit of privacy where needed.

Really well located property, the marked the perfect base for our Whitby getaway.
Modern, and very trendy on the inside. Had everything we needed and would happily stay again, plus will be recommending to friends.
Could feel more private if blinds or curtains were put up in the lounge but otherwise nice and quiet.

The flat was a lot less spacious than the pictures portrayed. As a business, opposed to a private residence it lacked any personal touch.
The plants were all plastic. The automatic light in the hall didn’t turn off and we had to switch off the fuse each night.
The cinema lighting in the bedroom ceiling was blindingly bright. Clearly had the wrong bulbs fitted.
The central counter in the front room/kitchen vibrates as it is rested on the fridge.
Perfectly comfortable but a much cheaper feel to the place than expected.
Having said this the location is good and central and it is reasonably priced. The single glazing does give a lot of street noise particularly on a Friday night with drunken shouting.
There also seemed to be renovation of the flat above during our stay which was unfortunate and quite noisy. Starting Early and continuing throughout the day

We had a great stay here, it looked recently renovated and was very clean. You are right on top of a shopping street so there may be quieter places to stay in Whitby but the location was really good, only 5 minutes to the water front.

Beautiful apartment just like home from home. Everything you need is there. Fabulous large screen tv. Bed was the comfiest ive stayed in. Staff really friendly on the phone. Few issues but if rectified i wouldnt hesitate to book again. Overall excellent!
Main problem for me was the lack of curtains or blinds in living room bay window which was floor to ceiling. It was a complete bare huge window. In the evening when lights on i felt very exposed as windows opposite or people below on street could see straight into apartment. No privacy at all. If you dont mind this you'll be fine. Also, the shop directly below us was being renovated + builders were there after we arrived on the Friday till 5pm. Noise was horrendous..banging and drilling, but at least they didnt return on Saturday. Just think maybe we should have been told about it before booking. Feel sorry for peeps staying mid week, having to listen to that all day long.
