While Host & Stay were a good company to deal with, the apartment itself was in need of a deep clean. The sofa smelled terrible and needs either replacing or a deep clean, the main room had a heavy musty smell. It looks like it used to be the cellar to the main house. The smell was so bad, i ended up feeling ill from it. I booked for a quiet stay while i was in the uk looking after my Mum. I didn't get that as the immediate neighbours had no consideration. I feel let down by it and it wasnt worth the money. Sorry.

The apartment was easy to find with convenient street parking, though this might be challenging during busy times. Accessing the building via the key in a lockbox was straightforward. However, upon entering the apartment, there was a musty smell, possibly due to it being a cellar conversion. The kitchen and living room were spacious and the bathroom appeared new. Unfortunately, the accommodation was let down by a lack of cleanliness. The carpets and skirting boards seemed neglected, but the most disturbing issue was the bed frame. On lifting the mattress, I found a large accumulation of hair and dust along the head of the bedframe, indicating it hadn't been cleaned for some time, supporting images confirm this. The most disappointing aspect was being required to pay for insurance immediately after booking, with the key code withheld until payment was made. This unexpected charge should have been disclosed at checkout. Due to these issues I would chose not to stay here again.

We had a beautiful stay in Saltburn and found the apartment the perfect size for two. Everything was clean and tidy and the location was just a minute away from the shops and local conveniences, with the beach and seaside a short stroll. We would love to come back one day and thank you for your hospitality. We've had the nicest holiday in a long time!

Spotlessly clean, imaginatively furnished and decorated.
Uncomfortable dining chairs and sofa. Instructions for induction hob missing - could not get it to work. Couldn’t get grill to work either because of inadequate instructions. Despite following instructions for heating, the radiators did not respond. I can’t complain about the lack of natural light because I knew when I booked that it was a basement flat, but I should have anticipated the drawback of this.

The flat really is beautifully done up, it has most things you would expect and need. It’s also very close to the station and the Sainsbury’s. The bed is very comfortable and you get two massive large screen TVs. You can adjust the room temperature yourself which was much appreciated.
The flat is in the basement, had I know that before, I would not have booked it. Basements freak me out. The bathroom door did not close and the towels were super small. However, the real downer here was the administration. The company they employ is unprofessional, snotty, patronising people with crying children in the background who clearly are nowhere near the UK and who have no idea how to help you with anything. They say on the website you should pay a deposit when booking which I did and they immediately took the whole money without notifying me first which made me very suspicious. Then they asked me to pay £240 deposit for breakage cover for a 2 night stay! That is 120% of the total price I paid, they will not give you the access information until you paid. I did not trust them at all and I would stay away from them at all costs!

Lovely, cosy apartment. Close to all amenities with free parking. Big, comfy bed.
Advertised as having a washing machine and dryer in the apartment, however there is not one.
Due to it being a basement apartment, there was a damp smell from the cupboards in the kitchen.
Also no lock on the bathroom door and it doesn't close all the way due to it being a sliding wooden door. We had to use the bin in the bathroom to hold the door shut.
Overall 4/5 stars due to comfort and location. One star knocked due to false advertisement regarding the washing machine and damp smell.

The flat was well equipped, clean and tidy. Designed by a follower of Buddha.
Street parking (in winter) was available nearby.
Top Tip - take your own illumination if you want to read in the lounge.
Big doubts about the company. They needed to be prompted on the arrival day for access details.
Turns out they use another company to 'verify your identity' and take £250 deposit off your credit card. Then they have the cheek to charge a non-refundable £10,
The clue's in the company name - Superhog!
Then they needed another prompt, a week after the stay, to return the deposit.

Quiet location!
Website shows a bright clean app.
Reality was it was dark and gloomy and rather grubby in places. I managed to get hot water in bathroom sink once in 2 days. Was hit with an extra £25 payment after we had booked and paid.
Do not know why you need 19 emails during booking and after!

Location & decor
Damp smell on arrival. Not been aired. Sofa damp Linen clean but pillows very poor - one very lumpy the other smelt of sweat. Dirty glass in cupboard with mould in it. Overpriced & extra charge waiver fee- made it a most as expensive as the hotel which included breakfast.

The issue we had was with the management company Host and Stay which required from us a non refundable £25 payment or an up front refundable payment of £250 plus a non refundable £10 fee for admin . These charges were not made explicit on the Booking.com listing of the property and notified to us after booking. Our apartment stay in Whitby the day before was excellent with no hidden charges or deposit. We also experienced a barrage of fine print emails from the company - we had 27 in total which was not conducive to a relaxing break. We have still not received the deposit 8 days since we got home although we have been notified it will be returned

I stayed two weeks in the Airbnb for a business tripp. The Apartment was super clean and the bed very comfortable. I really enjoyed the underfloor heating. But in the bathroom is no underfloor heating, so it was really cold in the bathrom, especially the floor, because the Apartment is in the basement of the building.

We had a great break in this basement apartment. Ironically if the booking.com listing had made it clearer that it was a basement apartment we would have dismissed the listing, and missed the chance to stay here. The flat is well thought out, and very well designed. Comfortable and all you need for a short break. We were impressed that the host had read previous reviews and had posted litlle notices and made changes to address the points. The bed was large and very comfortable. The electric shower worked well, and was hot!
On street parking worked well. Saltburn itself was OK, and we had a good meal at the seaview restaurant on the prom.
The shower area was quite slippy and could do with a shower mat. The hot water - for washing up - could have been hotter- but we didnt do much washing up. The sofa is quite low - we are at an age where if your knees are higher than your bum it can be difficult to stand up - but it was comfortable. The wardrobe in the bedroom is fine, but if you're not staying long, a hook rail would work fine, and give you just a little more space in the bedroom. These are all picky things about a fine place to stay.

This property is a little gem. It is situated in the basement of the house and is beautiful.
The bed is massive and comfortable, the kitchen/livingroom is tastefully decorated.
Its a great use of the space.

We couldn't have wished for a better place.

This apartment is comfortable and is in a perfect, central location in Saltburn, an easy stroll from the seafront. There are some delightful bars in the town, and the whole experience is relaxing and unrushed. Communication beforehand, during and after our stay was excellent, and we had very prompt support when we had a query. All in all, In the Key of Sea can be highly recommended!

The property was decorated very nicely and was very well-equipped. Very comfortable bed, and great shower. Great location, easily walkable to everywhere. Easy access / check-in with key safe. Good communication. Underfloor heating which is easy to control.
Only minor points:
- Would be good to have a proper handle on the inside of the apartment door (as you have to pull it closed with the little Yale lock knob, which is a bit tricky as the door gets stuck a bit).
- There is a slight ‘basement’ smell (but the property is very clean and no discernible damp).
- It would be nice to have a better fitting blind in the bedroom (and one for the fire door) to block
out the light better.

I booked this property for my mum and step dad. the decor could not have been any more perfect for my mum. my stepdad loved the tv in the bedroom and the shower. myself and kids loved the Buddhas. they want to come back but they would be taking their dog next time so will look elsewhere.
the steps are a little narrow and steep.

An amazing apartment great use of space, home from home everything you need for an amazing break away.
The central location gives you access to the town's amenities, supermarket, bars restaurants some fantastic café's.
The location also allows you access to all the local attractions, the beach, the Pier, Valley gardens, miniature railway and the Victorian Tea Rooms all are within walking distance of the apartment.
We couldn't have asked for anything better, fantastic apartment, fantastic location and accessibility to local attractions cannot recommend enough.

Brilliant location for exploring the local area. And plenty to do.
The accommodation is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It had everything we needed for a few days break. The bed was super comfy and the quilt was lovely and lightweight and cosy. Spotlessly clean.
The living area kitchen is really spacious.
The hosts are local and we're really friendly when we saw them. Easy check in
Pubs and restaurants withing walking distance. With lots to do in the area.
With it being a basement accommodation it is a bit dull inside with not much natural light.
It's OK for a few days but i couldn't spend any longer there.

Great communication from the host with easy check-in and check-out. The flat is beautifully decorated and clean, with a comfy super king bed. The location was great as it was near to the station, shops, and places to eat. Cool, quirky little flat situated on the Main Street in Saltburn . Next door to the guitar shop. Parked on the street right outside the flat . Cool decoration and big comfy sofa . It is below street level and down quite a few stairs but windows in the living space and bedroom let light in . A little bit odd that theres a window shaped hole in the wall between the bathroom and kitchen and just a blind . Guessing it’s for ventilation . The super king bed is very comfy , no noise at all . Had an amazing stay in saltburn and Milton Street has some excellent craft beer bars and independent restaurants. So close to the sea too . Will definitely be back .
