As a regular visitor to Staithes we love the area
The cottage is basic & minimal. For 4 people it is a tight squeeze with a sofa designed for 3.
There is nowhere to hang a coat up downstairs if wet /raining.
The house was not cleaned thoroughly as we had to point out that a vacuum had not been used prior to our stay. If a vacuum had been left we’d have done it ourselves as shoes are supposed to be left on the ground floor however there was dog hair on the carpet & stairs throughout. The bathroom has a malfunctioning wash basin tap & the shower needs a good clean on the grouting.
The bedrooms are adequate with bedding & towels supplied however perhaps another hand towel could be left

cute little cottage, set in a beautiful location. the service and information provided was great and very helpful. The cottage was clean and well equipped. the stairs are steep and a little slippy so be careful of your not great on your feet.
However, the location is amazing and once your moved in everything is walkable. the harbour, pubs , cafes all close by.

Location perfect
No stair banister…dangerous
Top floor had no safety rail and gate over stair well
All the facilities and supplies needed
Plenty of space for 2
Views of the sea from top floor…bonus
Again…location perfect
Front door a little stiff
Mentioned above…the dangerous stairs
The other things cannot be altered…perfect location but that means noise from traffic late at night, during the night and early morning and passing drunks with loud voices
No parking…but it was only a 10 min walk

Cottage smelt quite damp... Especially the sofa which was quite worn.

the location of the cottage is fab.pitty about no private parking but thats to be expected in a small fishing village.it doesn't stop us coming back to staithes many times.
we enjoyed our stay in the cottage but a few things need to be sorted.the weather was poor (nobodys fault) but there was no mat either side of the door to wipe your shoes, the switch at the bottom and top of the stairs for the landing light tripped the fuse box so we didn't use them, there didn't seem to be any hot water other than the shower.the cushions on the settee where stained even when we turned them over, the electric hob was really complicated to use but maybe that was just me being not good with electric appliances.the big annoyance though is the hidden costs.we had to pay £30 up front(non refundable )or £300 deposit before getting our key code.we didn't know about this before we had already booked and payed for the cottage.this disgraceful way of booking cottages needs to be addressed, sorted, and stopped because the owners should already have adequate insurance cover in place.if they haven't then they shouldn't own holiday homes.

Nice cottage in a great location.
Cleanliness could be improved as the stairs and floors had not been cleaned (sand on stairs and dirty floors), and the surfaces were dusty.
No hand wash or hand towel in the bathroom, and only one loo roll (no spares).
Recommend bringing ear plugs if you stay in the area as the Seagulls are very loud!

The Harbour Cottage is in pefect position in staithes.
The cottage was ok for 2 couple's but not much privacy.can hear each other at all times including bathroom.
Bathroom very small only small shower cubicle.
The cottage had everything you needed.but not as clean as other host and stay properties i have stayed at.
The stairs were dirty, settee covered in stains.floors were dirty.
The window 1st floor bedroom window wont stay open, kept slowing sliding.
There was a coffee maker but stuffed in a cupboard and no pods etc provided.
This cottages definitely not the standards host and stay usually are.
But we still enjoyed

Great venue and location however theres a sting in the tail -
A bit confused with the booking l, thought I'd booked fro 2 nights but had only booked for 1. Price was ok £106 , however had to pay £50 cleaning fee for a tiny residential space ( the accomodation floor wasnt clean, carpet wasnt hoovered, the fridge was turned off and defrosted and the toilet seat was broken with lid on the floor) .
Plus what really got my goat was you have to pay a non refundable £30 insurance fee before you can check in or give them £300 up front , refunded in 24 days if no damage, with a £10 admin fee. You cant get access key code until you pay this and its not clear on the booking.
Total cost for 1 night £186 !!
£80 of which was for insurance and cleaning!!! Non refundable

Everything about the cottage was great, location spot on,clean and tidy spot on
After we book it at short notice, so we could not cancel, we then found out I had to pay a waver fee of £30 and when you add the parking of £15 for two days it didn't see value for money

We love Staithes and to stay overnight was a real tick off our bucket list!
Such a treat to stay at Harbour cottage, it was so beautiful, clean and quaint and a stone throw away from the Cod and Lobster.
Lovely breakfast at Cobbles in the morning too!
Would return in a heart beat! Thank you for a perfect stay.

The accomodation itself and the village are a straight 5 stars. The house was in a great central location a few steps from pubs, cafes, shops and the harbour. Interior was very well thought out, made best use of the limited space and especially the top bedroom was extremely cosy with a good mattrace, bedding was good throughout. Staithes itself is a perfect short stay location for travellers who like quirky little harbour townswith access to the outdoors. So why only 3 stars? At the time of writing (12 days after we left the house in spotless condition) we are still waiting for a refund of the (excessively high) damage deposit. Furthermore the letting agent charges a service fee or that privilege, the exact amounts are not made clear during booking. So, five stars for the place itself, no star for Host & stay business practices.

The smell of damp in the house was awful , as we opened the door it was overwhelming , I had to go and buy scented candles from a nearby shop to help disguise the smell. The dampness put us of eating in the cottage, not helped with the absence of a chopping board for food prep or a basic tray to use in the oven

The cottage is in great location and the cottage itself is ok. Kitchen floor sticky and kitchen looking tired, broken bin and toilet seat. The check in time of 4pm is rediculos when you paying nearly 200 a night with cleaning costs and waivers. I did ask for 2pm check in given the cottage will take about 2 hours to clean but they refused to grant this which impacted on my plans. Team responsive but did not meet my requirements.beds comfy and bedrooms clean but not worth the price especially given check in times.

Wonderful location, right next to the beach. Comfortable and warm.
The stairs are difficult to negotiate so not ideal for mobility issues.
The cottage had hidden costs, over £160 for the night, then they wanted a further £25 for insurance or a £250 deposit with a £10 admin fee!! I begrudgingly paid the £25. It advertises parking but this is at the top of the hill which is £10.50 so an expensive night away. For this price I could have got 2 nights elsewhere. Couldn't check in till 4pm and had to be out by 10am so really didn't get anywhere near my money's worth.

Location,
On arrival we had no access to the property and they hadn’t sent details even though I advised what time we would arrive and was advised they would send through. As there is no signal we had to go back to the top and ring. Was told they would only send the details once we had paid £250 deposit which we knew nothing about, or £25 waiver, so this was paid but reluctantly. We managed to park near and off load. The floors must have literally just been mopped as when we got in there were pools of soapy water on the floor, with no means to clean them up, and it was very slippy. No mats at the front door. Luckily I had towels as we had the dog.
First floor bedroom is lovely but the mattress is exceptionally uncomfortable and the springs can be felt and every time you move they make a noise.
The following day we went out for breakfast and came back to find someone trying to enter the property, apparently there was a viewing on it but they didn’t know it had been rented out. Not ideal. The property itself is lovely and the location is absolutely amazing. But I won’t book with this host again, which is a shame as they seem to have most of the rentals on the east coast

The cottage was ideal for the three of us for our weekend stay. It was newly refurbished, clean and generally well equipped. The host responded quickly to any queries. The location is an unique and charming fishing village, so the main street down to the harbour was not designed for traffic - leave the car in the main carpark at the top, but don’t get caught out by the adjacent privately owned car park - it has different rules and will rip you off with a huge fine if you get it wrong. We would stay again.

A nice little cottage in a lovely village but looses stars because of the incredibly annoying management company that looks after this cottage.
7 messages, 3 texts, 2 extra forms farming my info to then sign me up to a newsletter, requests for extra cash after the Airbnb booking process and finished up with several nagging messages for a good review and a prize draw. We stayed for 1 night but it would have been less paperwork to buy the place!
Chill out guys.

Nice compact house on cobbled street. Everything you need for a break away. Close to harbour, 1 minute away at most. Very quaint old fishing harbour.
Water temp is an issue for washing but easy to boil kettle, shower is electric so that was fine. Stairs are steep but expected so NOT A COMPLAINT but be aware. Bed mattress in first floor bedroom needs replaced, comfortable but don't move or you hear every spring.

Lovely little cottage. 2 double bedrooms, but stairs not for the faint-hearted!

Advert misleading regarding parking as it states it’s with parking and then in the small print stated it’s an extra charge for 5 pound aday but dose not state where and it actually cost us £10. Beds needed a mattress topper could feel and here the springs as you turned over

Quaint cottage in a great location. Clean, bright, modernised but still 'cottagey'. Small, but big enough.
There was a foisty smell in the cottage. There was no signs of damp but maybe air fresheners and even a dehumidifier could have helped. Also a better seal on the bottom of the shower door would stop the water leaking onto the bathroom floor.

Filthy! The shower walls and bathroom floor need a deep clean with a scrubbing brush as does the stain on the carpet in the bedroom.
Too many emails when booking and an excessive breakage deposit.

The location of the cottage. Not in the potentially noisy beach area, but still centrally located.
I like the skills of the photographer to make the small, dark, dingy lounge/kitchen diner look so bright and airy.
Absolute rip-off. £154.80 for a Thursday night in September. They then had the cheek to demand a further £250 'damage waiver' at the last minute, 4pm, when I was trying to check in. They wouldn't hand over the door code until they got their grubby little mit's on their hidden 'extra' stealth charge. This wasn't easy to 'phone through, as there is NO Vodafone signal in Staithes. I had to go to the highest point of village carpark, 0.4 mile away on the outskirts of Staithes and wave my phone in the air to get a patchy signal. As I had no idea of this charge, I didn't budget for it and ended up with an overdrawn bank account. I don't think a reputable cottage letting firm, e.g. cottages.com, Sykes, etc. would touch this cottage with a bargepole!
Not that there's much to damage. No washing machine, for example. When I finally got into the cottage, 50 minutes late, I was greeted by a weird smell, similar to 'garlic breath'. It seemed to be largely confined to the ground floor lounge/kitchen diner. The second floor main bedroom was quite pleasant. I had to keep the ground floor windows open to try and freshen it up a bit, but had to be careful, as I didn't want a gust of wind, or an intruder to break anything!

Excellent location, well equipped. The phrase compact but bijou springs to mind.
We wanted a sea view, and there was: 2 tiny triangles of blue beween pitched roofs. If you ascended to the top floor.
The only not-very-private outdoor space was a shared path, and rather scruffy.

The location was nice, right in the village surrounded by beautiful scenery. Check in was easy.
Unfortunately we did not have a good stay at all. We were stopping for one night to rest during a trip along the coast.
The property was superficially clean but the shower cubicle was extremely mouldy, I've attached a picture.
One of the lights on the landing flashed brightly every couple of seconds when it was turned off. We couldn't stop it from flashing so had to keep the light on through the night. As the top bedroom does not have a door this disturbed our sleep considerably.
The £25 we had to pay to avoid having to give a large damage deposit was annoying. If it has been a particularly lavish appartment I would understand but there was very little in the property and we were only there for a night.
I knew we would not be able to park outside so was prepared to park in the car park, which is up quite a steep hill and cost £10 for 24hours. We didn't have £10 of pound coins so had a stressful time trying to pay online in an area with very little phone reception. I'd reccomend trying to have a good pile of coins to pay for the car park if you are staying here.
It was a lot of money to pay for one night in a small, mouldy property. We only booked it so that we could rest well and it didn't allows us to do so. I wouldn't reccomend

Stairs were steep and open on one side dangerous for anyone unsteady on their feet.
Pouring with rain when we arrived and there were no mats inside door so we had to put kitchen towel down.
The insurance/deposit. Steep for two night stay. Surely, Booking.com could have an annual insurance which would probably be no different from what we paid for 2 nights. Charges were not clear on booking confirmation which when I contacted Booking.com they agreed with but nothing done!
It was unclear which car park was which at the top of the hill as arrived in darkness and ended up paying at the mosr expensive of the two car parks.

The location was excellent , 2 minutes from the beach and near all amenities .
Better communication about parking !! My husband spent over an hour trying to pay for parking, he tried 3 cards but he found unless you tick all the boxes, which is suppose to be a choice . It doesn’t accept payment . There is a camera recording time of arrival. With the difference of time of arrival and finally paying for parking we have ended with a 60 pound find as well as paying for three days parking .
We will never book any property which is booked through Host and Stay . 15 emails, 250 pound insurance cover plus a further 25 pounds insurance , oh which is not refundable ……. Why ?

The location and the cottage was nice, clean, tidy comfortable
The booking procedure and paying the deposit was ridiculous. Never ever will I use this type of booking procedure and deposit method. Up to now I have had 24 emails in connection with this one night stay. Having left the property on the 18th, I may not get my deposit of £250 returned to my account. 10 days waiting for a refund on my deposit is ridiculous. GET A GRIP, and they had the audacity to charge me £10 for the pleasure of paying the deposit. Sorry, booking.com, but you have gone way down on my accommodation booking list.
And by the way, no hot water in the cottage

A little better description of where the cottage was as we couldn't find it for a while as there are lots of cottages called Harbour ..... - we couldn't google it as there was no signal at the bottom of the hill. Great position. Comfortable and everything you need for a short stay. Great staff at the Cod & Lobster - we arrived to find the property had been double booked and someone else was in there - had no phone signal, were being asked to move our car by the council and was at a loss as to what to do! Very stressful! Went in the pub, they let me use their phone to ring Host & Stay and resolve the issue. So grateful to them and the locals who rallied round us.
The loading/unloading is very tricky in peak season. We parked near the Cod & Lobster pub to unload and the council were on us asking us to move almost immediately.

There is one on the wall but I would have felt safer with it being on the living room side

the location was perfect and the rooms comfortable and clean. everything you need for a short stay is catered for!
The stairs are quite steep so may be an issue to those less mobile.

Location was fab, right in the centre of Staithes, good food nearby, pubs too. The property is recently refurbished, very clean and fresh and care has been taken to ensure all needs are met. The beds are comfy and the bathroom modern and clean. Really good.
Last residents could have washed up a little better, it's easy, there's plenty of hot water, soap, sponges and tea towels provided. The shower was a little slow to drain, so I turned off, to allow it to avoid it over flowing, but the turned it back on after a while to rinse the soap off and scolded my back, I was pretty quick to get out of the stream, I'm used to thermostatic valves so probably my fault, but could have been nasty with a child.

I like the the cottage as it is centrally located. Very close to the port, cafe's and pubs. People are friendly.
The noise of sea gull in the morning. The sun sun shine is too bright from 4am (in summer). Could do with blackout blinds.

could have done with an additional lounge chair rather than all having to sit on the sofa

Cottage was situated in the centre of Stairhes so very handy for the harbour, the pubs and walking.
We didnt like the steep painted stairs to both floors as we're in our mid 60s.
Think it's more suitable for younger people.

Well presented, decorated, very clean compact 3 floor apartment/house located in the main street of the fishing village in Staithes
Further alterations required on all the doors which are too tight (almost binding) on the hinged side leaving a considerable gap on the "handled side" - not necessarily a problem for a couple or family with small children. Furthermore the main entrance door doesn't latch very well as it's warped/bowed to a tremendous degree, reaching up to a couple of inches top/bottom.
The bathroom shares a floor with the 1st floor bedroom and thus is small and as a result no proper basin is fitted and no accompanying wall mirror. A quick hand-wash "basin" is provided which is not adequate. I would suggest replacing toilet with a fitted furniture toilet /basin set if it would fit and still allow decent access to the shower cubical. Otherwise locate a proper basin on the stud wall side rather than window wall.
The location of the house is some distance from the hill top, dropping off luggage and as a result blocking the high street poses some difficulty but wasn't terribly inconvenient in what is a fairly laid back kind of place but prospective visitors should be aware of this especially those who have any mobility difficulties, furthermore, note that parking is available but some distance away and up a rather steep bank.

Great location in Staithes, very close to the harbour and other amenities. Cottage itself was comfortable and had all the amenities and facilities we required.
Nothing to criticise or complain about.

Staithes is a little gem the location is excellent and the beds were comfortable. Smart TV and coffee machine. Decor style looks modern
The only place the door touches the frame is where it locks. You can see daylight through the door. This means it's noisy on an evening when the pubs are closing so until 1am.
The cottage sleeps 4 but there is enough crockery for 12 meaning there is nowhere to store food at all!
The stairs are ladder type stairs and a slippery surface so don't go up and down them with socks on. If you have any walking difficulties AVOID this cottage. They are exposed and steep especially to the top floor.
And dust from the stairs falls directly onto the kitchen below including cups etc
The lamp cable on the top floor bedroom had a coating of dust even though this is a touch point. There were some cleanliness issues even though you pay £60 for it but still asked to wipe surfaces on departure.
Its impossible to park outside the cottage to unload because you block traffic in both directions even though you are advised at check in you can park there for unloading for 40mins.
The sink is a wc sink so difficult to wash your face without getting you feet wet.
All of the taps are loose and move around.
Lastly the company managing the property will do nothing to fix the issues as I've seen in other reviews they will just take the money!

Check in was very easy. We arrived a day later than planned and it was nice knowing I wasn't bothering somebody to get the keys.
The accomodation was clean.
The location was perfect. 10 steps away from the sea and the village pub.
The front door didn't close properly (though it did lock). Cold air got in through the gap. We visited at the end of November, this wouldn't have been a problem in the summer.
All of the kitchen cupboards were full of pots, pans, crockery. This left no where to store bread and other food stuff you wouldn't put in the fridge.

Newly refurbished to high standard. Being a 3 storey cottage space can be an issue and open plan steep stairs may be a problem for some. Location excellent. Would return.

This is our 5th holiday in Staithes and the most luxurious property we have found so far.
The downside is the 'bijoux' size. The mini kitchen area is so small that there is only space for a mini fridge/freezer with no dishwasher and just a mini double induction hob. And the kitchen can't be used at the same time as 4 being at the table.
For a short stay the luxury outweighs this and it is perfect. I look forward to returning. I would not stay for more than 2 nights though for the above reasons.
