Very responsive host and checks in via the app, to make sure all is okay! Stunning location if what you like is a secluded and peaceful area with great views! No light pollution making a clear night sky brilliant. Great for walks (weather permitting). Would definitely recommend as a great experience overall, short or long stays.

We had an amazing two nights at the red brick barn. Andrew accommodated us extremely last minute as our other place cancelled whilst we were driving there.
The place was everything we wanted from a peaceful country retreat. We loved indoor and outdoor fire place and it was great that all logs were provided.
Our 3 year old loved collecting fresh eggs and chatting with the hens, duck and goose. We enjoyed exploring all the lands and loved the fact that there was no TV! The barn had everything we needed and we would love to return soon!! A fabulous find ❤️

This is the most idyllic and peaceful place to stay and worth the drive! We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine but regardless of the weather the cottage was lovely, heated up very quickly with the wood burner on and had everything we needed. We will definitely visit again, next time for longer

This was our second stay with Andrew - the house and it's surroundings were as lovely as we remembered.
The weather wasn't particularly kind to us but what better excuse to snuggle down in front of the wood burner with a good book and a warming glass of something.
There's plenty of places to explore nearby when you do head out and I would thoroughly recommend this place for anyone just wanting to get away from it all.

A small but very peaceful little cabin in the north of England. It’s on a small farm near Roman ruins. There’s no better place to get away from the rush of life!

location was great, lovely scenery. Really nice to have the animals on the farm wandering around - chickens, sheep, ducks.
the tiled shower (electric) in one of the bathrooms - the tiles need re-grouting/replaced asap. The solid wood worktop around the sink in the kitchen needs sanded down and re-waxed/varnished, it was discoloured and not in great condition which was a shame.

The Red Brick Barn is a great little place, providing real “home from home” comforts, very clean, with exceptionally comfortable beds. (Best sleep in months!!)We went for a couple of days as an escape from the day to day pressures that crop up from time to time and it was a great place to unwind and is very reasonably priced. A real gem in a beautiful part of the world!! Andrew is a great host and very attentive without being intrusive. Thanks again Peter & Family (inc Brillo)

The cottage is in a fabulous location, with a very different way of life, but easy to travel to the east coast or the Lake District in about an hour. The cottage is comfortable and reasonably well equipped.
A larger fridge with freezer compartment would have been a useful upgrade but this is a minor point,

Rural location, plenty off farm animals, nice and quiet.
Excellent views although the windows in the barn are on the wrong side would have had brilliant views from the living room possibly a planning issue.
Plenty off books and board games supplied.
Nice log burner make sure you take extra logs can be chilly off an evening.
2 bathrooms and a toilet downstairs.
Nice court yard / garden to the side with picnic table so you can enjoy the views can be a bit windswept though.
One bedroom floors very creaky and doors wouldn't shut properly.
No tv but has good WiFi so take a laptop or similar if you need to something to watch.
No windows over looking the views, possibly planning issue shame.

Andrew’s place is brilliant- remote and tucked away in a farm well away from the noise. It was a great and refreshing getaway. Farm fresh eggs, waking up to the songs of birds and the blessing of sheep-getaways don’t get better than this.

The location of the property was beautiful with ducks and chickens walking around, there was a large field just outside where I could let my dog roam.
The beds were clean but I felt that carpets hadn’t been hoovered, there were cleaning products for us to give the place a wipe down ourselves.

Andrew was incredibly hospitable and welcoming, and the barn was in the perfect location up on the hillside in a stunning part of the country. So quiet and incredible views.....beautiful starlit skies at night and we were treated to lovely sunlit skies in the daytime too, even in the middle of November! Ideally placed to enjoy the dramatic landscapes of the area. We were meeting up with friends, and there was plenty of space for the four of us and our dogs to get together, with incredible walks from the door and a very cosy lounge with powerful wood burner to come back to at the end of the day. Exactly what we needed.

We are just back from a very last minute weekend away. Andrew was very accommodating and made us feel welcome in our home from home.
The Red Brick Barn is roomy and cosy, and set in a quiet, peaceful location with amazing views of the valley. It really is a walkers paradise, ideal for dog walking or simply a lazy, peaceful few days away.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need for cooking pretty much any meal. The gardens are so pretty with a range of colourful plants, plus there are the resident ducks and chickens about....if your lucky you may just find some eggs which Andrew was insistent we keep if we find. There is a seating area at the side of the barn with a fire pit which got used throughout our stay.
If you want lots of shops, pubs and restaurants nearby, this isn't the place for you, however the location means it is a great place for being able to get out and explore wild county Durham. All in all, we had a very good experience, loved the barn and the surroundings, Andrew was great throughout and I have no hesitation in saying we will be back in the future.

Great place to stay. Very remote with limited phone signal (02) but great WiFi in the accommodation. No TV but after lovely long walks in Weardale it wasn’t a priority. Bird sanctuary with no access for dogs at the rear of the property but plenty of walking elsewhere. Lovely to see the lambs and enjoy sights of lapwings. On a clear night we saw so many stars it was incredible. Not to far to drive to Hamsterley Forest and other places such as High Force. We were lucky with the weather but if it was cold we could have sat comfortably with a roaring fire. Perfect place for nature lovers, bird watchers and walkers.

We had a great weekend at the red brick barn with our 2 labradors. Great location, easy access to good walks with plenty of opportunity for the dogs to be off lead.
The barn itself is comfortable yet simple, and was everything we were looking for including a well equipped kitchen and comfy bed. The log burner was good to have although a decent effort required to keep temperatures up inside with outside hovering around 0°C.
Andrew and family were great hosts who were very friendly and nice to chat to, we would happily go back anytime.

If you're looking for a rustic, off-the-beaten-track, rural experience, look no further than the Red Brick Barn. We had a lovely week in October despite mixed weather, totally away from it all. You have to be prepared to get your hands dirty in order to get the wood-fired central heating and hot water going every morning (though there is also an electric shower and heater) but once things are going, it can get pretty toasty, particularly if you position the electric heater in the kitchen.
Andrew and Jane are marvellous hosts with lots of recommendations (the pub/hotel in Blanchland is definitely worth a visit) and they were incredibly helpful when our van got stuck in a layby on the top of a hill - Andrew arranged the rescue, delivered by a kind local farmer!
Lovely corner of the world, well worth a visit. Thank you.

Rustic cottage set in stunning surroundings, to which you have access, thanks to Andrew owning the immediate surrounding land. Andrew is friendly and helpful; as are 2 of his dogs. It was great picking our own fresh eggs each day. The log fire is for heating and hot water, but if you’re caught a bit short there’s always the boost button It was nice having both bedrooms en suite as well as a toilet downstairs. The mattresses weren’t comfortable unfortunately due to the springs and grooves in them. Sadly the Rookhope Inn is now closed so the closest pub is the Cross Keys; the closest amenities are in Stanhope. The property, due to its awesome location, is at the end of a very bumpy track with plenty of potholes (approx 0.5 mile/2 minutes’ driving). The water runs on a pump so make sure you don’t want to chat downstairs if someone is having a shower (you won’t hear each other ). All in all a lovely stay. We would’ve liked to have taken advantage of the hot tub but just couldn’t justify £50 for it. Keep your eyes peeled for the tablet next to the front door - the instructions for things are on there

The photographs don’t do either the interior of the barn or the views justice. A really cosy and comfortable place to stay to escape from the real world, with views that you can lose yourself in. Sheep, chicken, ducks, geese, cows, wild grouse, bats and a beautiful owl, all on your doorstep. Plenty of walks from the property and we’d recommend the use of the hosts hot tub if you get the chance. Friendly (& obedient) neighbouring dogs and great hosts. We were made to feel welcome even before we’d left home. Can’t recommend it enough.

On the site it states 5 star cleanliness and extra covid cleaning, we were asked to check in an hour late to enable them to complete cleaning, which wasn't a problem.
On arrival we looked around the cottage and virtually every room had not been cleaned with the exception of the bathrooms. There were large amounts of dust on wardrobes, chairs, curtains and doors. The cooker internally and externally wasn't cleaned. Fridge and sink hadn't been cleaned.
Contacted the owner who agreed the cleanliness was not acceptable and arranged for the cleaners to go in next day. This they did, but needed a deep clean not just a clean.
One of our friends suffers from asthma and had problems all week due to dust.
We had travelled 7.5 hrs to get there had we lived closer we would have gone back home.
We did got offered a sum of money to not give a bad review, but I use other people's reviews to decide where to stay, so we declined it.

We all enjoyed our stay at The Red Brick Barn. The cottage is in a very peaceful setting not far from the owners' cottage and the view from the little seating area to the side is absolutely glorious. We loved watching the sheep, ducks and rabbits and Andrew kindly supplied us with eggs. This is a beautiful part of the country and there are lovely views driving or walking locally. The cottage is out in the countryside at the end of a long lane but clear instructions are provided.

The cottage is in a remote place but with good road links to other areas. Good size and clean throughout.
There are a huge variety of animals about including their own (which are friendly and free roaming). Lots of amazing birds on the bird feeder and we saw red kite, variety of owls swooping across the fields (including a fly by right beside the window of a beautiful barn owl). Very peaceful. We werent blessed with good weather but we can see that on a clear night the stars would be incredible.
Andrew kept in contact and was a lovely host.

We had a great week staying here. It is a very remote location (at the end of a long unmade road, so not appropriate for all cars) and the views from the garden are fantastic. It should be noted that the views from inside the house are not particularly great as there are no windows facing out towards the valley. But it is peaceful and quiet, and we enjoyed the log fire and the eggs from the very friendly chickens.

Just got back from a three night stay here with two kids and a dog. If you are looking for a cosy rural retreat then this is the place. The weather was soo wet and windy that we spent a lot of time cabined up with the real fire roaring, playing bored games, reading and drawing. The kids loved going out on the farm and feeding the chickens, ducks and goose. It was just what we all needed. The footpath networks looked amazing in the area so we can't wait to go back when the weather isn't quite as bad.

Our toddler loved feeding the dogs, hens and ducks who are very friendly and sociable. Spot, one of the dogs, is a dab hand at leading you through the fields and public path to the pub in the village so you don't have to take the car :-)

We stayed at Andrew's Red Brick Barn over a bank holiday weekend, in a party of four adults and a dog. Everyone enjoyed the time at the barn – it felt like a real slice of life on a Cumbrian farm and was a chance to spend time in a calm, tranquil environment in beautiful countryside.
Andrew's communication and directions were excellent, and he gave us a warm welcome on arrival (as did his three dogs). The barn itself is well equipped with log burner (coal and wood kindly supplied by Andrew), cosy sitting room, kitchen and two en suite double bedrooms. We found the place has plenty of space for four adults and a large dog to be comfortable. Around you on the farm you will see sheep, geese and chickens, which added to the experience for us.
All in all we had a great weekend and I would recommend this place to friends, as well as happily staying myself in future if the opportunity arose.

A very clean and comfortable house. The best feature on a cold Easter weekend was definitely the stove which was easy to light and kept the house cosy and warm.
