The apartment is amazing but the entrance to the building is a bit worn and needs a bit of TLC, so don’t let this fool you when you arrive

Lovely little old fashioned lodge for self-catering tucked away behind thick gardens abutted to a lovely old building on the outskirts of Alnwick. Its self-catering and had everything we needed, including good TV choice for the evenings and a strong wi-fi (in the lounge but not in kitchen). We just felt so at ease and relaxed in the evenings there. It may not be for everybody, say for example, those that like things to look modern. But for us with an eye to more homely back-in-the-day vibe, it was great. And that's not to say its in some way less-appointed. It was all there. Modern TV, Wi-fi, ovens, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, proper dining table etc etc. They had even provided a full bottle of milk, condiments, biscuits and beverages as well as fresh flowers in the lounge. If I had one quibble, and I hate to even point it out due to our complete enjoyment of the place, and that would be that the bed mattress was a bit too soft and 'sinky' for us. That said, I understand that bed preferences are varied amongst us all and others may prefer it that way. So much did we enjoy ourselves we are already planning another trip there with new places to visit using the lodge as our base.

The fist thing I want to say how disappointed we were that we had to pay a £500 deposit one week before our booking and won’t get it back for up to two weeks after our booking and then pay a £15 transaction fee. We won’t be using Hidden Gem again. The house it self was ok. There was plenty of room for four couples. The roof in the kitchen leaked which we reported. The biggest problem was the noise. The floorboards had all been sanded and left which meant you could hear everything throughout the house. Underlay and carpeting would have certainly helped. The house was very well located near the beach and 5 mins from the train and bus station.

The owners have put a lot into the decor, the apartment is lovely and in a great location. Host & Stay who manage the bookings on behalf of the owner really let them down. The cleanliness and maintenance of the property are certainly lacking. I’ve rated 5 stars as most poor reviews go unnoticed, hopefully you read this 5 star review to see what the apartment is really like. Please think about staying at a property managed by Host & Stay, and hopefully they will put this right for the owners. I looked at the good reviews for the property we stayed in, the poor reviews are probably the most honest. We stayed for 2 nights and put up with the issues we had, we wouldn’t have stayed any longer.

The apartment I stayed in York was lovely, in a great location and exactly what I needed. I happily would have given a 5 star review if it wasn’t for the unjustifiable and, in my opinion, un-transparent deposit fees. I booked via air bnb and saw a mention of a ‘fee’ but expected this to be nominal - I.e. a couple of £ to cover an insurance policy for my time of stay. Ohhh no, after booking the non-refundable room I was told I either had to pay a £25 (which I never got back) or £250 (which I would get back in up to 4 weeks time minus a ‘£10 admin fee’). This is an absolute joke. The £25 is not a nominal amount for anyone in this tough economic climate so I opted for the latter. Putting me out of pocket for £250 (which was more than I paid for air bnb!!). And I will only get it back in 4 weeks (meaning you’ll keep my money and earn interest on it in your bank account) and then charge me a tenner for the privilege!! It’s an absolute joke. I’ve used so many airbnbs and other accommodation providers and never had to do such a thing. So all of the others seem to have found a way around accidental breakages/ damages without imposing unfair and expensive fees on their customers. And not only this, but you didn’t disclose the amounts until after I booked- which is misleading and under-handed. Then when I called to complain the agent couldn’t give a monkeys and just told me “it is what it is”. Fabulous service as expected! So there we are, rant over. In summary- great apartment just such a shame about the way the company treats people happy to pay for a lovely getaway but not extortionate and unfair fees which only line the bottom of their own balance sheets. Bye 👋

The Teahouse Alnwick Northumberland Nice apartment, but spoiled by a couple of things. Firstly you are bombarded with emails and when they appear on my phone they seem to be the same, because each one is in a chain, it took me a while to realise you have to keep Scrolling down to the bottom of the email to read the new piece of information! Not good. Second your surprise additional charge for potential property damage! Either a non refundable £25 or some extortion racket where I give you £250 and may eventually get it back but you still charge me £10 “admin” not nice . Next the apartment we had was on the first floor, as I said, smart, well laid out and comfortable but the apartment above us has no real sound proofing as it is in an old house. The noise from the occupants was really loud, every footfall and closing of doors really carried. Basically if they were up and awake, so were we!! And when they used the washing machine the whole apartment vibrated. We left after 2 nights to go home and get some sleep.

This beautiful apartment is situated in an ideal location to explore the nearby coastline. It is excellently appointed with all you could need for a great break. A bonus in Whitby is the adjacent free parking. It has a large enclosed grassed area which is ideal if you are taking a pooch.

Iris Cottage is beautifully presented and in an ideal location for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors. It had just about everything we needed (although a bread knife would have come in handy 😉). Highly recommended 👌

Great property really convenient location. Shame about Host & Stay's policy of charging me £10 of the £250 I had to deposit for damage indemenity cove, something I have never been charged in the sixty years i've done self catering. I will not be using them again :(

The place itself was well appointed, but the key issues we had were as follows:- 1. The place was advertized as having a washer and drier when we booked, which we needed. There was not a washer and drier in the appartment, or anywhere else in the building, meaning we had the inconveience of having to go and find a place ourselves. We would have never booked if we had known this. We expected some form of compensation for this but non has been forthcoming 2 Our stay was for 5 days, and we where left 1 toilet roll only 3 The dishwasher was very compact so plates and cutlery for breakfast and evening meal filled it. We were left 2 dishwasher tablets only, we had to buy more 4 Also minimal washing up liquid, we had to buy more 5 At all other Airbnb's we've stayed at ample coffee and tea has been supplied, here there was only enough for 4 cups, again we had to buy more We did enquire to the owner regarding the washer and drier after we arrived and he replied " have you checked the kitchen and utility room?" Firstly I felt this was an insult to our intelligence, and secondly it indicated he has never set foot in the property. All in all very disappointed in the false advertizing, poor provisions supplied and then the response we got back from the owner. John & Jill

Left the key to the woman who worked at the reception when we checked out. After a few days, an invoice arrives that we did not hand in the key..... Even after I pointed out that they actually received the key, they insist on getting paid. Don't book here, you never know what they will come up with..

This is a lovely house, close to Barnard Castle town centre but in a very quiet location. Beautifully decorated and equipped. Comfortable beds. Free WiFi. Looking out onto the River Tees with a delightful balcony from which to enjoy the view.

I have no issue with the apartment we stayed at in Corbridge, which was very nice. However the rental company should be avoided! At the last minute they tell you that you either have to pay £30 insurance or lodge a £300 damge deposit with them that they will return within 30 days but they charge £10 admin fee! Given the problems I had already had paying them, I decided to suck up the £30 charge because I could only imagine how difficult it would be to get my £300 back. We had several complaints during our stay - the apartment had half a toilet roll (between 4 adults for three nights), a tiny bit of washing up liquid and one tea towel, one hand towel between four .... It took ages to get any response (and several nudges) and I was told that "We provide enough to get you started. We do not provide extras" - really?? Not the standard of basic I would expect from a luxury let. Finally, I booked through a cashback site and should have been given £45 back through that - of course that didn't happen and I have been told that my claim can't be paid because they have changed the network they use for tracking cashback. What a surprise! A money grabbing company - there are better out there, look elsewhere!!

Good place to stay as it’s very central and surprisingly quiet. Easy instructions for access. The apartment was clean and tidy with good sized bedrooms. The living area/kitchen was smaller than expected. It could be better configured to enable both eating and dining, without having to move any furniture. The two sofas are definitely past their best and should really be replaced. Uncomfortable and challenging for anyone with back issues. Having said that it was still a good place to stay and would recommend it.
