Lovely flat for our family. We used to live in Brighton and stayed here with our 3 year old and 7 month old when visiting friends. Great location on a key bus route. OK pram access and cot. The only thing missing is a high chair

I booked the Coastal Townhouse/Harbour Hopes in Whitby for September 2025 specifically arranged to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday with five family members. This was a premium priced stay and I contacted Host and Stay numerous times about this and was given explicit assurance they would "do everything to make it excellent". I booked via Plum Guide, who I have to say have been excellent throughout. When I requested early check-in, I was told this was impossible due to "advanced cleaning practices" requiring "the full time between reservations to carry out the changeover to a high standard." This explanation set clear expectations that we would arrive at immaculately prepared accommodation. The Reality The apartment's condition upon arrival was shocking and completely unacceptable: - Thick layers of dust covering furniture, beds, and surfaces - Large cobwebs throughout the property, including above beds - Filthy showers - the dirt pictured could be wiped off with a wet hand when I tried - General neglect, indicating the property had not been cleaned for an extended period I have extensive photographic evidence documenting these conditions, some of which are attached. The state of the property was so poor that my 70-year-old mother repeatedly commented on the cleanliness issues during what should have been her special celebration. Complete Failure of Customer Service Despite sending FOUR messages through the Plum Guide system detailing these urgent issues, I received zero responses. The only communications were three clearly automated messages (welcome, checkout reminder, review request), demonstrating a complete absence of actual customer service during our stay. This morning (17th October) several weeks after I raised an issue, I received an email from Host and Stay stating that "Having reviewed our records, we can confirm that we did not receive any contact during your stay. Had we been made aware of the issues at the time, we would have immediately arranged for a member of our team to attend the property to resolve them for you. As we were not given the opportunity to address the matter during your stay, we are unfortunately unable to offer a refund on this occasion." This is evidently not true, with extensive records via the Plum Guide app that communication was clear, polite and happened multiple times.

Always enjoy The Artists Pad been coming here since COVID and this place was the first place we visited it’s quirky, fun, eclectic, still miss the pink fireplace though, very well equipped, convenient and in a fabulous location 🫶😘

Booked a Host & Stay Property and during the booking process made the mistake of selecting the book/pay immediately rather than booking with cancellation to pay just before arrival. We contacted them to ask if the booking could be cancelled and payment refunded so that we could rebook with payment prior to arrival and free cancellation. They refused, despite the fact the booking was placed EIGHT MONTHS in advance. So, we were left with no choice but to honour the original booking and pay in full long before the booking, which caused significant financial difficulties for us. A week prior to arrival at the property we had still not received any arrival details for the property. We contacted Host & Stay who immediately replied to say we hadn't 'checked in' and completed the final steps prior to booking. We then were given a link to pay £29 for insurance on the contents of the property which was MANDATORY to receive the arrival details and for which we'd received no prior information about from the time of booking. So, we were forced to take out and pay for the insurance, despite having insurance of our own. We arrived at the property and found the inside to be clean, spacious and bright but the outside resembled something of a ghetto- run down, scruffy and in dire need of renovation. It genuinely made us fear for our safety when entering/exiting the property, particularly at night. There were some niggles inside the property- a lack of utensils, main bedroom bed too small, leaky shower etc but we were determined not to let any of these more minor details spoil our stay. Unfortunately, after the first two days (which were a weekend) we then realised that ground floor immediately below us (we were in the first floor flat) was also being converted into flats by the owner, as from 9am until 4-5pm every day that followed we had drilling & hammering noises constantly. This was coupled with building materials, tools, dust and workmen all around our main entrance door as we entered and exited the property. At no point either prior to or during our visit did Host & Stay or the property owner contact us as a courtesy to inform us of the works and it was VERY clear these works were being undertaken with their knowledge and consent. We had planned this break for some time, so rather than disrupt our stay with having to find a method of complaining and seeking resolution at the time, we chose to send a message to Host & Stay to inform them of the problems we'd had both prior to and during our stay. Despite messaging them with all of the details we were offered no compensation or explanation for any of the problems we'd encountered and simply directed to a 'returning customer discount code' of 10% for our next stay providing we booked with Host & Stay. We certainly do NOT recommend anyone uses this company for their holiday stays on the East Coast- we're so disappointed as we love visiting the area, but we will do whatever we can to book with other agents or property owners in future and strongly encourage you to do so too.

We verbleven in het ceder cottage in Belford. Een mooi goed afgewerkte woning met zes slaapplaatsen in drie slaapkamers. Een perfecte douche WC en een badkamer en WC op de begane grond. Een mooie goed uitgeruste keuken en gezellige woonkamer. Gelegen in een rustige straat met een paar pub en dorpswinkel op loop afstand. Kortom een prima uitvalsbasis.

Beautiful views from the loft. Apartment was clean and tidy, brilliant location 5 min walk from the sea front but in a lovely quiet location. Only downside was the roof comes down very low, which we were expecting but it falls in inconvenient places such as the toilet (my boyfriend couldn't stand over it), the sink ( I'm 5'7 and had to stoop over brushing my teeth) and the bath/shower. Just thought I would mention this to others but like I said didn't affect my experience and added extra cosiness. Brilliant all round.
